Would you date a woman with no car?
Posted: 12/2/2007 6:44:20 AM

yes, some women have written me off because of the choice i've made about having a car. if they're so materialistic that they refuse to see past the lack of a vehicle, its their loss.

not being materialistic.....its not wanting to drive all the time..evenutally its gonna come to a point where she ALWAYS has to pick you up. again...that is not being materialistic...being materialistic is not dating you cause you own a honda instead of a bmw....

the health benefits alone have been worth it... i'm in better shape than a lot of guys 10-15 years younger than me. i eat, drink and sleep as much as i want without worrying about looking like a beachball. oh yeah, and don't forget buns of steel too.

ok...so just because you dont own a car...your in better shape than anyone else who DOES have a car?...i know lots of guys my age who would run you under the table that do own a car....being in shape has NOTHING to do with or without owning a car.....its called will power and getting your lazy ass off the couch

during summers, i've found that going for a ride on our bicycles appeals to a lot of women.

so do you ask them to take ride on your snow buggy in the winter?

If you have a car or not..dont care....but lets face it....you take two men with the same job, same money, same looks...bla bla bla....one with a car...and one without...the one WITH has an advantage dating over the one who doesnt ....plain and simple

this only applies to men...woman can get away with not having a car in the dating world since men are usually more open to picking them up...

My question is how many of you would get turned off by learning a woman doesn't have her own car?

Yes. I'd hope that she wouldn't mind that I don't have one either. We could take the bus together!

I've dated women without cars, without jobs, without cars and jobs and none of it really matters to me. I'm seeking a true relationship. I don't think anyone is any better than anyone else. They might be better off, who cares, but thats not what I seek.

A find that a woman who has set goals for herself in life and seeks to achive them is the most attractive to me. On the other hand, if they don't have a car or a job because they are free loaders, that's another thing.

eman... as i said, the woman is not always driving. if you'd read all of my post, you would have also seen the part about renting, taxis and car co-ops, all of which i pay for.

this only applies to men...woman can get away with not having a car in the dating world since men are usually more open to picking them up...

now, there's a comment bound to impress women.

Most men could care less whether or not you have a car. They are much more concerned with how you treat them and how much time they spend laughing when they are with you. Its the women's profiles that are full of prerequisits about cars and jobs LOL. And yes I have a car and a job.

don't forget a druggie as well. I wonder when I am going to get my next hit, you know seeing as how I don't own a car , or have a license I must be a looser or a druggie, damn I must be both, does someone want to point me in the direction of the nearest dealer................... I all of a sudden have the over whelming urge to suddenly jack up, all because I don't drive, devastated gutted, how will I live without having the social prestige of owning a car... What will others think of me.... that's it, I can't cope with pressure of not being able to drive, I need to drown my sorrows in a****ail of drugs, stick god knows what into my arm..... and die somewhere down the line of a drug over dose, errrrrrrr still need pointing in the direction of the nearest dealer, and can I get the bus there??????>

It depends on the reason why she had no car.

If she was too idle to work then I might be put off by it.

I know this is ask a guy but as a girl who doesn't have a car I thought I could add my two cents..

I don't have a car because our transit system is pretty good.. I have my own apartment, job, cat.. .I am VERY independent. I would never expect a guy I date to be my taxi service. I think once I was in a more serious relationship it would be a given that we would go more places together but if I was by myself I wouldn't just call and ask for a ride. And I would offer gas money if that was the appropriate thing to do.
I can see how a guy might be leery of a girl without a car but hopefully he would give her a chance!

Having a car has nothing to do with personality or character. I would date a lady with or without. The fact that she has one would not make her a better person in any way.

I wouldn't refuse to date a woman that doesn't have a car. Hell, having a car just means you are able to make a car payment every 30 days. It doesn't tell me anything about your finances or you or anything like that.

That depends on the area one lives in. I haven't had any trouble getting around Portland and the surrounding cities since I left my 94' Camry with my parents and moved here a bit over a year ago. There are a lot of other options beyond owning a car, such as bicycles, public transportation, car rentals (when one is really necessary or appropriate), taxi's, etc...

Most of the women I've met and dated over the past year have been in the same boat as me, though. Car ownership isn't as common in this area precisely because they aren't necessary for someone to maintain their normal lifestyle. Even those who have cars usually wind up leaving them at transit centers and taking the train downtown to save a lot of money on gas and parking.

When I lived in Frisco, Tx. outside of Dallas it was necessary to have some sort of vehicle in most cases due to the sheer size of the place, harsh climate most of the year, and it's almost complete lack of public transportation.

I wouldnt want to date a guy who doesnt have a car. Because it means I am always going to be the sole driver, I do the driving to and from dates all the time, I do the driving if we want to go further afield, Im the one drinking coke when we go out for dinner. I would prefer someone who does have a car, the driving can be shared then.

In the not-too-distant future, if countries continue to experience gas-extortion and The People and their scumbag Elected Representatives continue to evolve into invetebrates, look for used horse-n-buggies. Imagine all of the buggywhip manufacturers coming back from obsolesence. I'm thinking of investing in a hay baling stock...or alfalfa and oats.

unless she's fairly attractive, it's a deal breaker for me........gas prices rising........and driving all the time gets really annoying, especially if she lives across town.

ARGH!!! I've been car-free for >8 years - but I live in a city - I commute via bicycle - year round - plus mtb and do long rides and tour on the roadie - but basically - I live in a city --- if I feel it's unsafe to commute - I ride the bus - and I think, for commuting anyway, I only rode it 15 times since December 1st thru today - ride the bus when it's terribly icy or too much snow. Grocery store? Bike and backpack. Mall? Bike and backpack - or bus and backpack.

I was just interviewed by a reporter for the local newspaper this past week (National Bike to Work Week) and his two main questions centered on - "are you commuting because of the gas prices" and "how far do you ride". I'm sure he won't be using my "interview" as my response was not for gas prices - but for convenience. Why do I want to move a car from one side of the street to the other on off days, pay everyday for parking downtown which is $1.50 to $5.00/day (btw the $1.50/day parking is on some yucky streets where break-ins and car thefts frequently occur). Not to mention all the other car repairs, upkeep, etc etc etc. This way I can .... buy more bikes!!

But seriously - I can go and get a car if I wanted - if I worked in an out of the way place - I'd have to have a vehicle - no problem - but I work in the heart of downtown - and will mostly likely be there till I retire. I've had some friends try and give me a car (older, but in decent shape) and I kindly said thank you, but I don't want one at the moment.

And (I'm a long-term member of several bicycle forums) some of the commuter threads are posted every couple of months where bicyclists are tired of people asking ...

"Soooooo, you ride a bicycle and don't have a car, well I guess that's cool - great exercise, huh."

Next question ...

"Do you have a problem with the license? I mean my cousin has had some problems and he's riding his bicycle now ..."

UGH. No. I am fully licensed - love to drive a car - stickshift rocks - in fact someday when I decide to get a car again - that's what I'll purchase.

But in the meantime - I luvs my bicycles.

and to finish - yeah - I'd date a guy with no car - cause he hopefully is someone like me.

(oooh btw - can you tell that I'm a bicycle advocate and member of several such organizations? )
