| Can a person with Asperger's find love and true understanding? Posted: 9/21/2009 8:34:02 PM | I think you might like this site.
Dr Daniel Amen... " Change your Brain, Change Your Life! He has a book and can be seen on youtube if you don't have time to read. Check him out his videos are wonderful I just love him.
How you think is how you will be. You have soooo much to offer the right guy. You were not created to live alone, feel alone, stand alone, be alone! You have many things going for you and you do not need to live in the shadows of watching the world from the outside in! Put away all ppl that are negative including your own thoughts that led that way, you don't need them. And start renewing your mind with wonderful things that you will have and will be. You are valued, you are needed, you are loved.
So...Stay beautiful from the inside out!

| Can a person with Asperger's find love and true understanding? Posted: 9/21/2009 9:21:29 PM | | I am tring so hard to understand all of this. Ive just read all 5 pages. I think I may know someone like this. But I am not sure. Can people with Asperger"s get along well with animals ? I am asking this for a reason. The person I know has always had pets and is very good to them. Can a person with Asperger"s relate to animals if they have such a hard time with people? If the answer is no, then I guess he doesnt have it. If on the other hand ,most do have pets, but why would they? I think I am not wording this correctly, as I still dont get it. I will have to pull up one of the many sites brought to forum. If some one would be kind enough to let me know if they can have relationships with animals I would like to know. Thank you Sharon | |

| Can a person with Asperger's find love and true understanding? Posted: 9/21/2009 9:36:18 PM | I've got aspergers and well, I do lead a struggling social life yet at the same time, I've been able to actually ask someone out after a few weeks or so. OP, I'm pretty high maintenance as well, but I do everything I can to make up for it as well, doing extensive favors for my partner.
As for getting along with animals, well, let's just say I let my dog watch horror flicks with me now and then. Yeah, we share conversations too; Sue me. I've always had a big attachment to my own pets. If I've had a stressful day, my dog seems to know about it and tries to comfort me.
I once read it's possible to grow out of a few or many autistic symptoms (Staring at washing machines no longer fascinates me and stacking random objects is boring now, but flashy lights and accelerating numbers still put me in a drooling state.. ) Before you say I have epilepsy, I've seen the game Berzerk in action. I survived.
Autism is a bit more than just ADD/ADHD I'm afraid.

| Can a person with Asperger's find love and true understanding? Posted: 9/22/2009 7:30:48 AM | | Do you think I have a good point by me saying that Males with Asperger Syndrome have it harder than Females with Asperger Syndrome when it comes to Love, Dating, and Relationships? Because usually since us Men have to take the initiative and do the pursuing, asking the Woman out, that part is hard for us not so much because we are shy, it's just that we don't know how!!. | |

| Can a person with Asperger's find love and true understanding? Posted: 9/22/2009 10:32:56 AM | | My problem is that I have a hard time socializing with people in general, but it is not as hard for me to socialize with other guys than it is for girls, it seems that my only way for the most part when it comes to breaking the ice and starting a conversation or keeping one going, is by asking questions, like questions about the person or their opinion, etc. I'm not good at telling stories or jokes. | |

| Can a person with Asperger's find love and true understanding? Posted: 11/26/2009 7:32:00 PM | A 40 on the aspie spectrum when I was tested by a top specialist at Stanford University when I was a student there, and I am fortunate to work around and with men and women in the high tech industry here in Silicon Valley CA and even when in Seattle. And unless someone has a child, parent, sibling or extremely close friend who is autistic/aspergers and actually knows a great deal about these issues I don't take their advise, or suggestions. Do recommend my friend Dr. Temple Grandins books and publications like WIRED which has had some great articles on geeks and aspies. Autism/aspergers isnt something you can 'snap out' of. In fact its insulting to even suggest that someone can snap out of autism/aspergers.
My late husband was an engineer and an aspie so we were equals, which made life easier. And there are some great meet up groups for aspies in the entire N CA area, as well as around MIT, Seattle, U of Michigan, and Cal Tech or anywhere there are major schools of engineering and science. Since they seem to have the most undergraduates and graduate students and companies who have more aspie men and women. Anywhere there are geeks you will probably find aspies. This is one reason families with children/adults with autism/aspergers will move where there are better schools and jobs.
