'Age-difference' is almost as insignificant as 'Distance-difference'....with the right
_Chemistry_...!!
I've found that .. no matter What her age .. it's a tactful technique to keep the conversation on the topic at hand, let her ask the questions...till she finally says...:

Sigh~~~~~~just can't seem to connect with someone my own age here at POF
So by default it's the 'youngins I'm after but ...............I draw the line at 53
At 53 a man has had afew years to recover from the trauma of passing the' half century 'mark .
I ran in my province's summer games 3 years ago but for a nice 53 year old I might slow down a bit if he wanted to catch me ....or....at least...catch up

Edited to add.......or should I say 'subtract'(97-53=43)........so that would be a 43 yr age difference
I like what's been said about the 7 year age difference tho..................7 is my most favorite number

Edited(again) to add......Just flipped back to page 5 to read some more posts and noticed
this thread was woken up after almost two months by a 53 year old fella who's thinking of
stretching his age preference to 99!!!!!!!!!!
WOW......talk about synchronicity......oooops.....where is Missouri anyway????.....I know it's south.....it's right next door to where 'Dorothy' came from isn't it???

I think that anybody who is still hung up on something as petty as age shouldn't be dating at all.

most research states its best to keep it within five years. i think that those of us over fifty really need to kep the age pretty close. the reasons for that are obvious i think. that said i know we all have seen the may-december relationships that worked well while they lasted, but thats just not the way to bet. i kinda think about the old steely dan sone "hey 19" when i think of the big age difference in relationships. i also think about my uncle who married a gal much younger than him who left him after a few years because she found a guy closer to her age. he was left with child support coming out of his social security and very bitter at women. (the last part i think is his fault, even if she was the one who inititiated the relationship he should have known better than to get involved with a woman the same age as his third oldest child)

I don't give age much thought at all. I go for the chemistry, the animal magnetism, the ZA-ZA-ZOO.

Take your age. Divide it by 2 and add 7 years

If I did that I'd be dating someone young enough to be my son - Yuchhhhh!!!

There's got to be an upper limit to the use for THAT formula!

To each her own,but don't knock it if you haven't tried it -you might be surprised what you have in common with a man 20 years younger.

I had a three year relationship with a guy 29 years younger than myself. The sex was fantastic But at the end of the day we had nothing else in common. I had the problem when people looked at us, and if I said anything he would pick me up and run around the supermarket with me and draw enen more attention to us. I felt ashamed of myself for falling in love with him and it was me who couldn't bear the thought of reaching 70 and him being only 41.
Was it anyone elses business really? NO but it can create problems. Best to stick nearer your own age and yes I do miss him and yes he's dating a woman much the same age as me again.

A lot of my female friends say "age doesn't matter". I actually believe it's good to move forward together at a similar age. I have been lucky enough to catch the eye of women a good deal younger than me, that's good for the ego, but I'd prefer they remained within their own age group. Five years up or down is a good rule.

Well obviously, 57-year-old men and 21-year-old well-endowed bimbos that are madly in love with them is the ideal. But since all that that's bound to raise is an eyebrow or two, 5 years either way for both genders seems to work about the best.

The younger girls are the ones who either message me or answer my messages on here and they are the ones I ultimately end up dating, for the most part. The girls who are closer to my age don't seem to want to give me the time of day! By younger I'm talking about 30 - 44. What's up with that?

I've been contacted by a 38 year old and a 70 year old.....for me, 38 is too young, and 70 is too old...

What's a girl trapped in an almost 55 year-old body, that looks mid-40's, but with the maturity level of a 55 year old, and the attitude of a 40-something to do?????

Age seems to be a factor more with the ladies in their 40s than those girls in their 30s. Ask any accountant. Numbers will drive you nuts. I find it a bit humorus to message someone within 5 years of myself without any response. But, when I just happen to look at a profile of a younger girl, she will contact me. It's not about division and adding. If someone wants to be with someone beyond their years, who is to say that it's wrong? Common interest, true motives, and pure hearts is all that really matters.

ive dated guys younger than me and older. i think it depends on the guy because some in their 40's can be as childish as a teenager.

i would consider any one up to 50 if he was mature enough.
but definately not over 50, why im still fit and young

Although I do not know what age difference is "best" a quite recent Stanford University study posted on Thirdage.com reveals currently men in their 40's marry women an average of seven years younger than they are; men in their 50's marry women on average 11 years younger; men in their 60's marry women on average 13 years younger.

The study mentioned it did not matter whether the men were rich, poor or somewhere between. That was a huge surprise to the researchers because of the commonly held belief that only older men having wealth, power, being famous, etc., can land a much younger wives.

Age really is just a number.....my ex partner is 66....24 years older than me....we met when I was 15 and he was 39.....we were together for 23 years before we split up (not because of the age difference) he was and is a very fit, active man....still works out in the gym 7 days a week, cycles etc....handsome (still is) we are still good friends. If 2 people are compatible what difference does it make if he is 40 and she is 20....or he is 20 and she is 40? He made me laugh, we shared the same taste in music (and I don't mean Vera Lynn) If 2 people are compatible what does it matter how old they are, people these days are very judgemental on others.....regardless of what your own preference is....don't judge others on what theirs is!

Well I think the best range is within 5 - 10 years in either direction. I used to always date younger guys (up to 10 years younger), my friends, especially the male ones, used to tease me about it. Anyway, in recent years, I am more and more interested in dating guys my age or within 5 years either direction, with my preference being w/in a couple years either side.

From what I have observed, when a woman dates a man 20 years older than her there are only two reasons: 1) she is being "bought" with the nice house, the travel and the treats that the older men throws her way as the old dude knows they are a sugar daddy. Some of these woman are down right abusive to the old dudes, and are counting the days 'til the will is read ... 2) The second reason is that the woman is not much of a looker and the old dude is the first that ever paid her attention. And for the old dude even a less attractive babe is better than a fellow geriatric. Hee, hee.

This is just what I have observed, I am sure there are happy stories out there as well. And scenario #2 that I presented seems to be positive for both. Secnario #1 is a little hard to watch!!

If it's right...you feel it My husband was 15 years younger and the time we were married was awesome. Age had nothing to do with the split. It was culture and religion that broke us. Now that I am 52 I have set my age range at 50 to 55. After 50 I started looking 15 years ahead and having a vision for 65 and later in life. For me I want a partner in the same stage of life as myself.

Oye, when one person turns psychotic it doesn't matter what the age difference is, it is still Hell.

Here is another thought: For those among us who say that we should marry someone close to our ages because they can care for each other as they get older, ridiculous. I watch my mother try to take care of my dying father and it actually end up killing her. She could not give him the care he needed. He was 6'4" and when he fell, her 5'3" body could not lift him. So much of what we tell each other to sell each other the fantasy that we have been sold, falls apart in the light of realism.

I have dated women much younger than me, and a surprising number of them had more interesting personalities, were more open-mindeds, and were clearly more worldly than some of the ladies I dated who were my age. I don't think it makes so much a difference anymore.

I think that age isn't as important as common interests, core values, goals and the connection that two people develop. I've dated older women and younger women and some of the younger women have been far more mature than the older ones and some of the older ones more youthful in their attitude than some of the younger ones. Personally, I will always be 17 re: my twisted sense of humor and outlook on life. If you were to close your eyes and not see a person's age on their face/body you might be surprised at what you hear in how they express their mental age. It also involves the mindset of each person in terms of their preferences. I've known people who only date younger people and others who only date older people. So, for me, age really is just a number even though it might play into some of the important factors like dating a younger woman who might want kids, I love kids, but I've raised mine and the thought of having another child who I will drop off at daycare and then go pick up my social security check (no, I'm not that old, yet) sends cold shivers down my spine. I don't want to be having to raise teens when I'm in my 60's either.

I think no more than 5 years either way would be good.
