| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/17/2008 2:22:52 PM | I played wow from day 3 of opening until about 6 months later. Got bored of it and went to other stuff.
Now, I'm waiting for a game called Darkfall. 4 times the map size of Wow, skill based system instead of levels and no instances. up to 10,000 players per world.
If you feel like scoping out the videos check youtube, there are some decent ones there. It goes up on Jan 22 in europe I think.

and no instances I'm going to guess you've never played a game without instances. I have and I can say first hand that it sucks. EQ did not have them and therefore the highly wanted items were almost impossible to kill when you've got an entire server all competing for the same kills at once. Instances fixed that problem. I would not want to see them go away.

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/20/2008 11:09:49 AM | Yes, it's bad enough having to "line up" to do quests sometimes, when too many players are doing the same, or related quests in that area. There's just not enough creatures to go around. I usually just simply leave and go do something else, then come back when there's no one doing that area. The spots around the main cities are the worst.
In a related note, the other day I had some player who was also doing a quest in the area where I was, tell me that I should (and I quote) "stop stealing his XP" - simply because I was 2 or 3 levels above the monsters in that area where the quest was, and he was a level below or the same. He thought I was "too high" for that quest. Huh?????? The quest was yellow for me. It amazes me how some players think that they own the rights to have quests all to themselves. We all have to share sometimes, so we just wait for respawns. If he hadn't been such a jerk about it, perhaps we'd have been able to join together and work as a team to get it done faster and fairly. However, he was anal about it, so I ignored him.
So, I cannot imagine what it would be like trying to play WoW - or any other MMPORPG without instances. Worse than impossible most of the time, I would say.

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/20/2008 11:26:58 AM | | One thing that really annoys me when playing WoW is when you are trying to do quests out of a major town, and some high-level idiot is grinding in there killing guards (and consequently quest-givers, and sometimes vendors) So, as a result, you have to wait around for them to respawn to get the quest or turn it in. Booty Bay was absolute chaos the other night. All my quests were in the tavern, and that's where the fighting was. I went away and came back 45 minutes later to try again, and the questgivers were still all dead or were fighting. I think that there needs to be much higher level Elite guards with higher aggro in all the towns and cities, so that this is discouraged. | |

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/20/2008 4:21:47 PM | I never got into WOW. I played D1 D2 and now waiting on D3. So when DiabloIII comes out I can make a thread Blizzard is taking there sweet time, so it must be great. And never have to wait in line to go questing...lol
This thread is making me want to run out and get WOW while I am waiting.

This thread is making me want to run out and get WOW while I am waiting. Well, I don't know anything about Diablo III, but WoW is nothing like Diablo I and II. I loathe top-down style, so-called RPGs like Diablo where you need a magnifying glass to see what's going on where your character is. WoW is so far beyond them, it's like a Mercedes to a skateboard. Besides, WoW is making Blizzard millions in revenue, so why focus away from something that is a major money-maker? I would imagine that DIII will be very different from DI & DII, but anyway, WoW is Blizzard's flagship product right now.

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/22/2008 1:06:54 PM | The only problem I see right now (personally) is that, since I do work shift work, being in a guild that raids is almost impossible. Most raiding guilds now have high attendence standards (80-90% attendence). I was a huge raider Pre-BC because I didn't have a job, or a life. During BC, I was somewhat a casual raider (had a normal job, but still no life). I want to have a bigger role in raiding in WotLK, but I have a time consuming job, but still no life. ;)
Pick up groups for heroics were good for a while, but when all the top quality players started to get geared up and started running Naxx, etc... You get left with the pile of crap players who don't know squat about their character, or ebay'ed or whatever.
So unless I can find a guild or a server with a guild that would allow a casual raider, it looks like I'll be left with what I was stuck with for most of the BC days... and that's spend my time PvP'ing casually for gear. Glad I'm good at PvP.
|
| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/22/2008 3:47:13 PM | | Derickat, my guild is what I call a casual raiding guild. Most of us have lives and families and work. We keep it casual but we also enjoy a good raid. Currently we are tackling Naxx, then we will move onto bigger and better things. We have absolutely no attendance rules. | |

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/23/2008 1:17:50 AM | Is this the shameful area for people who enjoy online social gaming?
I play on Medivh (been there since launch). With each expansion I seem to start a new character, this time playing a BE DK. Only at 78 (Scythenoire) so far, but got my epic flying for Northrend, so happy about that, since I hadn't saved up any gold pre-Wrath. But been taking is very relaxed, not getting addicted like my first time playing years ago. Very casual. A lot of guildmates are already working on their second or third or forth 80. But the DK is my dream class, cross between Warrior and Warlock. Loving it.

Is this the shameful area for people who enjoy online social gaming? Why yes it is! And it's about time you got here sweety. : (by the way, still love your name here)
Almost all of my guild is working on their second 80 at this point (including myself) but those with deathnights are behind the curve a little since you all started at 55 instead of 70 on your leveling quest.

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/23/2008 4:30:28 AM | One reason to get to 80 by Christmas, extra Christmas present in game.
So looks like I got some work to do. Two levels in two days. Guess I better get off my butt for the next two days. Want that extra gift.

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/23/2008 2:36:53 PM | It's Crashem' Smashem' cars this year. They crash. And smash. At least 25 times, I think it was.
The one that is going to be the pain in the butt is the 50 honorable kills as a transformed gnome. That's going to be an absolute pain, since when you die, you transform out of it, with no easy way to get it back. Very stupid achievement requirement. Probably easier on a PvP server.

It depends on the guild. I just left a guild that were casual raiders... a little too casual. It got to the point where we'd be hours late starting a raid because they wanted to wait for certain people. They were also wishy-washy about loot rules, and were more interested in guild numbers than having good players. I was checking out guilds with almost horrific requirements (6 interviews, tests, a 1k gold donation and a required 2 hours per week gathering for raid mats is crazy, people!!!!!) but finally did find one that seems to be suited to what I need (fingers crossed).

Hardly took me any time at all. It's easiest for classes with aoe spells I suppose, and I didn't die , but I got it in one AV. It probably also helped that I'm Horde, it seemed the alliance players didn't go for the throat as much as usual while I was in disguise. :)

I thought it would be hard, but turned out to be really easy. I'm Horde also, queued up for AV, went to center of Dalaran to transform, and then in AV just stayed with the main attack group, avoided going out on my own or moving to the front, and just tapped every enemy I saw. Got 42 kills in one AV on my Death Knight. So much easier than I thought.
Got to 80 and got Merrymaker on Christmas day. Good day.

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/27/2008 7:51:17 AM | Ok, I've only been playing WoW since Hallowe'en, and I have a Level 50 Blood Elf Paladin. I really like aspects of the game where you can actually help fellow players - not even necessarily friends or party members, just other random players - by healing them if I see they are close to dying when fighting a monster, or resurrecting them after they're dead so they don't have to run 100 miles back to where they were. They're usually VERY grateful! To me, that is the true spirit of an RPG, and especially for a Paladin character.
Anyway, I wonder if anyone could answer me a question I have regarding PvP. I have mine turned off, as does my other party member. (my brother-in-law) We were in Ung'oro Crater yesterday, and went north on quests, and ended up at a small settlement up on a hill to the north (forget the name) All the NPCs there were green, EXCEPT for one other NPC, a vendor of some kind, who was red. There were small hostile plant-things running around nearby and as I passed the general area where the hostile NPC was, a couple of them attacked me. Somehow, in the process, the hostile NPC got in there and I killed him. At that point 2 Player Characters who happened to be there, promptly attacked me, and since they were a fair bit higher than I was, they killed me, and my party member too. One was a Night Elf Hunter, and the other was a human of some class. (both Alliance characters)
So, my question is this. How were they able to attack me if my PvP is off? My guess is, that although the hostile (to me) NPC was at the settlement, he was under the protection of that settlement. I must have hit him in error, while fighting the other hostile creatures there, which forfeited my non-PvP status for that period. Therefore, that gave the Alliance Player Characters the ability to attack me. That hostile (to me) NPC would have been green to those players. I have been in towns where, for example, every NPC was green, except for for one of the Flight Masters, who appeared red. My guess is, if I attacked him there, all the NPC guards would then attack me. That's the only possibility that I can see happening. I should note that I am on the Nordrassil server, which is classed as a 'normal' server. Anyway, that had never happened to me before, and at first I thought it was bug in the game, but my money is on what I said.
Just goes to show you that you have to be careful in towns and settlements where there are red NPCs.

| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/27/2008 10:50:01 AM | | There are several ways to turn on your 5 minute pvp timer. Buff a character that is flagged. Purposely target a character and attack them that is flagged. If you used an ae spell and one of the npcs was red (flagged for PvP) you probably unintentionally did it. | |
|
| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/27/2008 2:24:40 PM | | That could have been what happened. I may have used Consecration which is a handy spell for wearing down the health of multiple targets, and there were several of those attacking. The NPC could have got in the range of that, and attacked me. | |
|
| World of Warcraft Posted: 12/28/2008 9:38:56 PM | | I play this game as well. Kind of my dirty little secret (guess it isn't so much anymore) but I play on the Detheroc server with a 70 rogue, 80 druid (feral tank spec), 64 lock 61 DK. And many many more alts. Get bored easily and all the quests have become boring and repetitive. Sad thing is too, I got my druid to 80 in a week after the expansion was released | |
