Using free Wi-Fi access can get you arrested??????

"...The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a bill saying that anyone offering an open Wi-Fi connection to the public must report illegal images including "obscene" cartoons and drawings--or face fines of up to $300,000..."

I agree with the law on the child porngraphy portion of it, because that is just plain sick, and keeps the pedophiles in their place. However, other images as long as it is not shown in public places other than the adult book and video stores has meaning. But obsence should be narrowed down, and as far as them searching your laptop, don't they have to have a warrant to do that? I mean a dog can't sniff your laptop and find contraband unless you got weed, or coke or something inside your laptop. If the canine can well they got a pretty smart dog "that dog sure does like you" -cheech and chong.

I wonder what would have happened in Sugarland, Texas had that moron Shelly Sekula-Gibbs once a while Rodriguez instead of Nick Lampson.

I would not call it free, but rather stealing. They give you free internet to try to get you into there establishment as cheap as a cup of coffee. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing is wrong. Most businesses make the wireless router name easily identifiable by people who connect to it ( Like "joescoffeeshop" ). Even if you put a password with encryption, there is software that can easily crack it telling the user the password to gain access. I think they came out with newer encryption now so don't know if that can be cracked yet.

they probally think the man arrested was a terrorist

OR part of the Michigan Militia, if some people have bother to actually learn how to read, the setting up closed wireless router is simple and any chimp can do it.

If the owner of the establishment has said he doesn't care, and just wants it to go away, doesn't it then become authorized use. How is it that this case can go forward with out a victim pressing charges? Then again, Michigan is the state that recently became famous for having a man arrested for swearing in front of women and children.

If a police person is witness to a crime, they can not ignore it, it is for the judge to decide if it is a crime and I guess for the DA / crown to present it to a judge or dismiss.
