^^I never say that because it invariably starts a *that's BS* *No it's not* fight, but I do have to totally agree. I swear by blood type diet. However, even better, there is a kinda sequel to it called Geno-type diet that is coming out Dec 26, based on new, additional research that fine tunes blood type diet theory, and it based on more genetic markers than just blood type.

I was able to quit 7 kinds of meds and lost 35 lbs on blood type diet, and it wasn't hard at all.

Food is for fueling your body. The first 3 letters of "diet", equal "die". I can't think of anyone that goes on a diet, stays on diet. I wouldn't focus so much on the weight scale, instead, focus on what your waist measures (at the belly button). An ideal waist measurement for a woman is 32.5 inches. Foods to eat: chicken, fish, whole wheat; whole grain; fruits; vegetables; olive oils; canola oil; nuts; dairy products. Foods to avoid: sugars that include fructose, and most of the foods that fast food joints serve.
Don't skip breakfast. Don't eat dinner 2 hours or less before bed time.

Also, you have to consider your genetic profile, if your family members are medium to large boned, I guarantee you probably won't be a size 0 or a size 2. Keep in mind that being ultra skinny doesn't guarantee good health. While the world is obsessed with being thin, there are dangers in being overweight, and underweight.
A good book is" You On A Diet". Also be sure to take vitamin supplements.

I've lost over 50 pounds in 8 months, and been overweight just about my entire life.

The trick is in your head. Moreover, its your reason. If it's any of the following 3, you will fail:

1. You want to lose weight to lose weight (sounds redudant but lots of folks use this reason)

2. You want to look better (hard as it sounds, you need confidence to begin with and a positive outlook)

3. You want to be healthier (sure, it'd be convienent to be healther...but is it what you *really* want?)

In the end, its not about losing weight, strange as it sounds.

Captain girly girl is a smart chick. Blood type eating is smart, it works the best
and the healthyest for you, forever. The best thing is the natural boost of energy you get and are rarely tired too..

You should exercise daily as a lifetime habit, most people do not do this but if you maintain a good habit of daily exercise along with proper diet you should never have weight problems. You can vary the routine weights one day, cardio the next and view it like brushing your teeth, you do it daily. An important way to control weight is by adding muscle mass, it burns calories 24/7 a great way to control your body weight. One great advantage of a lifetime exercise routine is you will feel better with more energy day to day, I speak from experience, 52 yrs old and exercise generally six days a week, I have weighed between 175 - 190 lbs since my early twenties, usually I pick up 10 lbs over the winter due to inactivity (confined inside) and lose it by mid June (increased activity) good luck, I hope you meet your goals.

Don't eat any packaged food. There is often MSG in it and additives in it to make you hungrier and crave their food.

Try going a week just eating fresh fruit, vegetables and fish or chicken that you prepare yourself by steaming, broiling or making a soup or stew (don't add thickeners or gravies, just use a whole peeled potato and mash it up into the stew when it's soft enough.) Try to add some cabbage, it has something in it that can supress your appetite. Season with sauted onion, carrots and celery, and fresh garlic or ginger. Use olive oil instead of butter, flax oil on salads, (don't heat flax oil), and use fresh lemon instead of vinegar (vinegar has some by-products of yeast fermentation in it.)

During this time, don't eat cheese or dairy products. There is often growth hormone in these things (to make the baby calf grow) and it can make you hungrier. And don't eat flour. Just have brown rice or potatoes with your meals, but not large amounts of these.

Avoid caffeen because it can stimulate hunger even though it may make you more alert--you are thinking of food!

Try drinking hot water instead of cold water in the winter. It can be just as refreshing. Or just put a squirt of lemon or lime juice in it.

Preservatives keep food from spoiling, but they also prevent your body from burning the calories in the foods when needed, so the calories get stored instead of giving you energy.

Avoid meats preserved with nitrates like ham, bacon, sausage, baloney. Nitrates turn into a carcinogen when heated. And these foods also can have lots of additives that enhance a feeling of hunger.

When you eat meats, buy cuts that have the bones in and cook them with the bones, this provides more nutrition for you in soups and stews. (You don't actually eat the bones, though!) It also tastes better and makes your portion more satisfying. Bones have bone marrow, which is like gelatin without all the processing, and is good for your hair and nails.

Switch to sea salt (iodized is OK). There is more flavor in it because there are other minerals your body needs in it, and it can help make you feel more satisfied.

Don't add sugar to anything. Sugar feeds yeast in your intestines and gives you gas or hunger pangs when the yeast want more sugar. They have a hard time digesting the other stuff like protein and vegetables.

Don't fry anything. The high heat in frying (unless it is stir-frying) changes the character of the oil and causes it to be unhealthy and hard to digest. Instead, try coating a variety of sliced vegetables with olive or safflower oil and salt and pepper and roast them in the oven on a large baking sheet. Or roast a whole chicken. (Very easy.)

Try eating squash once in a while instead of mashed potatoes.

Never use margarine. Margarine, unless it says so on the lablel, usually contains trans-fat which is just as bad as eating lard. Safflower oil has a buttery flavor and is better for you. Make sure the oils are not too old. Many oils get rancid-y after a few weeks. Sometimes even on the store's shelf!

If you do this for a week, often you will loose your craving for too much food and you can more easily continue to "diet."

Go for walks outside. It is a great way to exercise, doesn't cost much and the fresh air helps your body burn calories better because there is more oxygen outside than inside. Remember to breathe deeply to energize your body and mind.

Also, the sun gives you vitamin D which will help you absorb more calcium from your food and make you feel better. Sun also helps your pituitary gland adjust your hormones so you don't get as moody, and don't need to satisfy your moodiness as much with food.

Get a really good pair of lace-up walking shoes with good arch support. New Balance makes very nice ones. Stop walking barefoot around the house. Put your walking shoes on first thing every morning and your feet won't get sore by the end of the day, and you will have more energy to go for walks.

Walk with a friend, or cook with a friend. Often food cravings are a substitute for the sweetness of friendship.

Happy trails! Enjoy the flowers, the rainbows, (or the snowflakes!)

I'd recommend the Fat Flush diet. iVillage and AOL both have FatFlush communities (with message boards) and Amazon has hundreds of reader reviews of Ms. Gittleman's books.

Any approach that's not based on health and fitness (eg. with is only weight or appearance motivated) isn't sound or sustainable, imho.

In my own experience (never added pounds until mid life) portion control has helped a lot (duh!). Also, in my case, aerobic exercise (cardio, in the zone) alone would only take me so far. At this point my metabolism isn't as fast (56 years old) and the boost from anaerobic workouts are a required addition: weight / resistance, intervals / sprints and plyometrics. Hurts but works.

Diet alone won't do diddly for chubby folks, gotta fiddle the thermostat.

Good luck, persevere!

The fundamental rule of dieting is that your body must burn more calories than it consumes.

I recommend tracking your progress through a site such as www.sparkpeople.com (if you want a lot of dieting tips, forums, etc), www.myplate.com (if you want accurate tracking but less fluff). I use the second one because I'm pretty good at dieting after losing over 60 pounds. These are completely free and work very well.

First thing is to find out the number of calories you need per day to maintain your current weight, then reduce your intake from there. 500 calories less per day = 1 pound of fat per week. It's generally not recommended to reduce by more than 1000 calories per day.

As a general rule, don't eat anything unless you know how many calories are in it. Try to cut fat and carbohydrates out of your diet more so than proteins for two reasons: 1) Your body will consume your muscles if your protein intake is too low, and 2) Protein tends to keep you fuller for longer given the same number of calories.

Exercise keeps your metabolic rate going while you are dieting, and burns extra calories as a bonus. This keeps your body from going into a starvation mode.

One tip is dont cut back calories too much. The reason "dieting never works" is that people cut back too much. Here is what happens.

1.people are told to lose weight, they need to eat less, and exercise more.
2.they do it
3.it last for a little while
4.then their metabolism slows down because it needs to survive on less
5. so weight loss stops
6. at this point people either a) give up (usually) or
b) cut back more.
7) then the cycle starts all over again until:

they're down so low in calories they can't keep it going because they're starving all the time.
then they really do give up, and then they put everything they eat
on as fat because they are still in starvation mode. Your body sees it as famine. Unfortunately it doesnt know the difference between 2007 and 20,007 BC.
The reason this happens is because people do this using techniques that aren't sustainable, like cabbage soup diet, no carb diet, etc.

you can pretty much eat what you want for breakfast and lunch.no carbs at night esp after 6pm.try not to eat fries, rice, bread, or noodles when possible.some exercise is needed.i drink water when i go out dancing instead of beer.i cut my portions i ate by 25%,i eat fruits and carrots for snacks/dessert.if i couldnt control my urge for sweets i ate gummy bears.im 20 pounds lighter and 2 inches smaller in the waisti can loose 5 pounds in a week if i follow this plan to the letter and in three nights drinking about 5 beers a night put the 5 pounds back on.ps kissing burns 50 calleries an hour too.

got my mom a vitamix for christmas and since sampling a few things, going to buy myself one. the reasoning is, more veggies to fill me up made in ways you can't taste veggies. smoothies, made the right way, full of fiber and water and that equals weight loss. going to buy one for myself.
regular blenders just don't make smoothies like that, and cannot blend whole apples, oranges ( seeds and all).. whole foods also are more filling so you eat less junk and refined sugar.

best way is to eat less than the energy needed for day to day life, not need any pills or drugs

if u expend 2000 calories per day and eat 4000 calories of food, u will get bigger..

lifestyle choice and not a short term diet

Heya, I have lost nigh on 10kgs now. I have a bit of a twisted version of the body for life thing going on.

My problem (as you menion) I am always hungry, for some reason the 5 meals a day with brown rice and protien work a treat! And you get one day off a week too. At first you go mental and eat everything in site, but once you start to see how good your body is looking you start to make healthier choices.

My version is a little twisted as I do work out loads etc, but no where near what they suggest. Also I allow some foods that are banned during your 6 days, like dinner for me often a hot dog or two with rice (make sure its a high protien hot dog and not a bread filled one) as by dinnertime I want something hot and tasty!

I also have a pretty interesting salad every lunch that I buy, I think this has helped me keep the interest up. I am a serial dieter and would give up after 4 weeks, I have now been doing this for 6 months and feeling and looking better than ever.

I 100% suggest it!

Good luck, and remember its not about a diet, its about changing your life

Hungry at night? I drain a can of corn and eat that warmed or cold, it will fill you and has very little calories unless you add butter. Eat a giant bowl of air popped popcorn. 1 can of Tuna is <300 cals., put it on multi grain bread (I like Oat Nut bread) w/o mayo etc..

Walk to short distance places rather than drive. I now walk 3/8 mi. ea. way to the convenience store daily. I also lost 30+ lbs. this yr. doing the above.

p.s.
Drink lots of water w/ high fiber foods.

Like most have said on this thread i'm a real believer in the lifestyle change.

Trust me .. when you make a change for the better your body suddenly starts to reject most "bad foods". I've started to walk to places that i usually take the bus to and spending the time outside enjoying the sun and the cool breeze does wonders not just to burn extra calories every day but lifts your mood up quite a bit as well. I havn't written down my nutrition for quite a while now but you might want to just to get started... but it might be a bit laborious. To start you must avoid fast food at all costs and build yourself a list of substitutes. Make some healthier choices at restaurants.. instead of fries have the salad. If you can't do that then have half salad half fries.

Just keep in mind the first three weeks are the hardest. Just take it day by day and after week 3 it becomes routine. And you will feel awesome for a long time to come.

Oh and don't forget to sleep and exercise as well because it's important to let the body recover and adapt to your lifestyle change.

Wow loaded question. I lost weight by having my big meal at lunch and smaller meal at nite. Jogging didn't help much but the stationary bike did wonders, the weight came off fast when using the stationary bike. Plus drinking a lot of water. I never had much success with actual diets but more success with small adjustments to eating and exercise habits.

hay girly, its common to know that it takes 20min after you eat for your brain to get the infomation you are actually full. so eat too fast or eat with distraction makes you eat much much more than your body really needed. besides i'm chinese, you don't see many fat chinese people walking around street do you?! so you should try my tips! im not gonna tel you everything you know about eat less or eat more often but smaller portion... cut all the crap, here are the tips from me:

Tip: most people eat when they are BORED, so find yourself sth to do!
Tip: eat breakfast, otherwise your body will store the cal you eat later on at night! so its important to when you eat.
Tip: don't do yoyo diet, people who starve for a while, your body don't get the nutrient it needs, then later on when you do go on a normal diet, anything you eat, good or bad, your body will take it, store it for later!!!! its a natral body response! plus people have more chance getting gall stones when they on yoyo diet. Its true!
Tip: eat at a dinning table instead of on the couch with the TV on! ppl eat more when they get distracted with TV
Tip: eat with chopsticks! i know they are hard to use, that's the whole point! excercise your brains and make you eat slow. trust me it really works!
Tip: don't eat within 5 hours b4 bed!
Tip: don't sit down within 40 mins after you just eat, go out for a slow walk or standing do the dishes, standing to play playstation or do sth! you will have a smaller belly after few weeks! it really works!
Tip: avoid butter, its evil! fat...
Tip: learn to make yummy soup, have a small bowl of soup b4 main or as main. Low cal and filling and easier to digest... that's why most girls in H.K are all 40-50 KG, they have soup everyday! Im not from there but hay i know how they do it!
Tip: avoid high carb fizzy drinks, most fizzy have much more sugar in it than you can ever imagine!

i actually have many more ideas and theories of dieting and weight loss tips., but i think these are the good start, remember the principles, its dangerous to do yoyo diet ,eat slow, eat with chopsticks, soup is good, try stay away from butter!...

avoid all refined, processed and starchy carbs as well as dairy: no sugar, bread, pasta, cereal, rice, corn, beans, potatoes, yams or dairy of any kind.

Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables - raw or only slightly cooked - in particular fill up on cruciferous type veggies: cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, kale, bok choi, asparagus, brussel sprouts

Eat lean meats, poultry and fish

Drink plenty of liquids - 8 oz per waking hour - up to 4 cups of coffee per day is ok: more than that will dehydrate you.

Avoid alcohol - it is high in calories and acts as a diuretic

my personal favorite:

eat as much as you like of whatever you like...

as long as you do it naked, sitting in front of a mirror

Eats lots of protein for lunch and dinner. Protein makes the body produce the PYY hormone - google PYY.

Try it. Try eating a 350 calorie sandwich and another day 350 calories worth of chicken (probably 2 chicken breasts). You will find the chicken is more filling.

Calorie counting is important. Find out your Basal Metabolic Rate and add to that the Harris Benedict formula. Google them.

It takes 3500 calories above your allowance to gain 1 lb of fat, and 3599 calories below your alloance to lose 1 lb of fat. Divide that into 7 days of 500 calories a day. So you can go 500 calories a day under your BMR and HB per day to lose 1 lb a week, and 1000 calores a day under your BMR and HB to lose 2 lbs a week. Don't aim for a greater loss than 2 lb a week as too fast a weight loss will possibly be bad. Take a multi vit and mineral supplement.

If your problem is the types of food you eat - simply don't buy them. If you need to buy them for other members in your household, ask them to hide them from you. Reward yourself weekly for doing well to resist those foods - no, not with a food treat!!!
