Posted: 12/6/2007 7:24:54 PM | | Just because a person is single, doesn't mean they will spend Christmas alone. I have my son and daughter-in-law with me and it's very pleasant. My ex hated Christmas and ruined it every year. I'm am so happy that he isn't in my life to ruin anymore holidays. Have a S/O does not mean holiday happiness. | |

Posted: 12/6/2007 7:57:20 PM | I don't mind being alone for Christmas, until I see couples kissing under mistletoe. Then I become sad and it usually lasts right through New Year's Day where it gets even worse. I usually sit outside looking up at the stars all by myself thinking, "With all of the stars that are in the sky, when is one going to fall from the heavens and into my arms?" I hear people celebrate, indicating it is a new year and then I go to bed depressed.
The next day I check my bank account and realize I was probably better off being single. | |

Our tradition is to either make dinner or more typically, go out for a fancy pants expensive dinner and come home and open presents. I enjoy this time of year because it is about being thankful for the blessings/good things in my life and being with family. One day, I will hopefully get to share that with someone else but I am certainly not upset that time has not come.
I think the people who get bummed are those who don't want to be single or do not like being alone. There isn't anything wrong with that, but I am the opposite type. | |

Nothing wrong with being single - better to be by yourself than with the wrong one.

my favorite christmas alone (well, without family) was back in the 70s when I was doing heavy metal arena touring as a tech. we often worked Christmas (good week for shows). I was working for Ted Nugent and we were a pretty wild crew. they flew us out of Newark on a connector to Chicago and then onto Oklahoma City on a transfer. we flew out on Christmas morning, discovering that Ted had sent us all first class (there were maybe ten of us) as a perc for working Xmas day which meant free drinks.
by the time we got to Chicago we had drunk the entire liquor supply dry. we had three hours in the Admirals lounge drinking free and then staggered onto the plane to OK City, where proceeded to work our way thru the drink cart with a vengeance. (we had gotten smart and somebody had purchased a couple of bottles of gin for G&Ts if the cart ran dry) there was a group of older women on the plane (senior citizens) and by the time were half way to OK we had them up singing Quando Quando Quando and doing a line dance in the aisles. the stewardesses were trying to bring order but it was so funny that they were laughing and it didn't do much good.
the captain came back to quiet the party but he was a youngish guy and pretty soon we had him in the line dance.
(sorry. got carried away there)
I remember a bowling tourney in the back of the plane with oranges as balls and cans of pineapple juice as pins.
ahh the good old days. air travel isn't any fun anymore. | |

Posted: 12/7/2007 9:44:18 AM | Christmas and being single doesn't bother me, since I love Christmas and I have a young child. I get to watch all the kid movies, bake cookies and do it with out anyone dictating how its all gonna go and pissing and whining etc.
New Years on the other hand is a whole other thing. Especially at midnight when all the couples are kissing and there you are alone swilling the bottle of champagne. | |

YES for me it soooooo is! Im 42, and havent attended a family holiday in AGES. I pretty much always end up volunteering to work or if i dont, i will lie and tell my family that i am working. Why? Cuz i HATE the endless questions about who am i dating? Oh you're not seeing anyone,,why? Then everyone rushes to be reassuring that my Mr. Right will be along someday. *sighs* Its humiliating when everyone is there with a SO 'cept me! lol So yeah,,,holidays are that bad for me! lol | |
