Lol, I actually had to change my body type on here. I'm 5'4" and around 125, I have a nice chest, nice ass but I didn't think I was athletic or thin so I put average. Well, after meeting a couple of guys they pointed out to me that for the area I'm in, I'm not "average" since the majority of girls are on the thick side. I think the hardest part of figuring out curvy vs slim....what do you consider curvy? slim? It' ll be different for every city, state, country.

have noticed, a few references to Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn at her biggest, which was around the same time she was at her most famous, was a size 16. when she died she was a size 14.

Clothing sizes were different in the 1950s. In today's sizes, Marilyn Monore would have been between sizes 4-10 depending on her exact weight.

Ok Smitty, where does one fall if its only 15-20lbs? That's not BBW and its more than a 'few'......That's where I'm at in life....but I list 'a few extra pounds'. Does that make me deceitful? Most men I meet are happy with the description and I've never had any complaints. Of course, many have mentioned the fact that previous girls that they had met had used 'a few extra' and had been more like 50-100 lbs extra. Guess I'm just trying to get the guy's takes on this.....Those 'few extra' pounds really do make me curvier though.........

I don't see any problems with putting a few extra pounds. 15-20 lbs isn't a lot of weight. I think there should be a weight class between a few extra pounds and BBW. There are a fair amount of women that are in between these body types.

when you are a man, and on top, there is nothing worse than hip bones that stick into you....they hurt after a while

Speed up the process then.

I love my curves!!!!!!!!!!

And truth be known, I like a guy with some meat on his bones and hair on his chest.

Hey Northeast, maybe the clothing sizes have changed since the 1950's, but I'd have to say she still would have been closer to a 10-12 - in today's world. But in her heyday, she was the most desired woman alive. What woman wouldn't want to have that figure? Of course, had she lived to be in her 40's-50's and carried several children, what would she have looked like then? Without the personal trainers and cosmetic surgery?

Some people will never be happy with their bodies-or parts of their bodies-because they don't look like what society deems as being 'beautiful'. Its too bad, especially for the young girls growing up today.

Oh, thank you, Batgirl, I’m saved! And for my truth to be known, I like a woman with meat on her bones and hair on her head. But as this thread is about “Curvy vs Slim”, my vote is cast on the curvy side. I am so disappointed/disgusted with this societal “thin thing”… more so, when a celebrity with a size 6 figure worries about being overweight. What a load of bollocks!!! Yes, I do prefer a woman with curves and larger vs smaller, but then again, I’ll always take personality over either! (Hmm-mmm… maybe I missed the comment, but it occurred to me that another double-standard is on this thread… no one mentioning that OP has trouble spelling names. )

This post should read 'fat vs skinny.' That is what you are really asking isn't it? And the answer is obvious: skinny.

Of course, the happy, perfect medium is 'slim' (which is really code for skinny), flat stomach with a big rack and a nice round, tight, toned booty and thighs.

C'mon. We all know what the beauty ideal is. Sure there are exceptions to the rule (some like the skinny, boyish, supermodel types; and some guys go ga-ga for rounder women that actually do have meat on their bones; and then others still like a really hard, masculine looking athletic body), but all in all, Barbie rules. If it weren't so, skin mags and strip clubs wouldn't be full of cookie-cutter women.

Nope, it's skinny vs curvy. Fat is a third option.
For the record, I'd shag twenty colours of shit out of the girl who played the squeaky voiced alcoholic with the great rack on Will and Grace. (The ex dug that show)

That is an awesome build.

Well, shag past tense. I doubt she's reading this.

No, she'd be a Size 3 or 5 or 7, depending on the clothing make (keeping in mind she'd have to have things specially made or tailored because of her large breasts). She was five-foot-five and 115-125 pounds - maybe 130-135 at her most unfit period towards the end of her life.

I'm five-foot-four and about 125 and wear mostly a Size 5 - and my weight is in my middle, not the nice curves Marilyn had on her chest and hips. So do the math. Look at her photos. No way she was a modern-day 10-12 (not that that's bad, but let's be honest).

Our local art gallery is gearing up for a display of rare Monroe photos, artwork and memorabilia, and I saw a preview. They include photos of her jogging and working with weights in shorts and crop tops. Not an ounce of fat - she had an very toned, athletic midriff and waist. Definately a modern-day Size 3, 5 or 7.

Keira is OK, but the truth is that I go ga-ga over girls like Marilyn Monroe or Gina Lollobrigida. Curvy is better, IMO.

Marilyn Monroe was about 5' 5" and weighed between 115 and 140 lbs. According to various catalogs that I have seen, a woman who is 5' 5" and 115 is about a size 4. A woman who is 5' 5" and 140 is between a size 8 and a size 10. I'm not saying women who are a size 10-12 are fat or unattractive. In fact, I have seen plenty of attractive women in that size range. But Marilyn Monroe wasn't a size 12 and maybe a size 10 only at her heaviest weight.

I have to agree with dutchpirate - she put it well. I have never seen a woman that is a thin twig pull off sexy. They appear lanky and slinkyish. Sure I am woman judging other women, but I know how I want to look and what I am envious of. I think slightly muscular with a few curves is nice. But the guys are right, obese women use the term "curvy" just like men will state a hair color when they have no hair. It's in the eye of the beholder really. Healthy is good to me!

<~~~~ not curvy. CHUBSCOUT and happy. ;p hehe

but thats not why i'm messaging today.

after studying fashion design, it was determined that at the time, Monroe was measured at a size 10/12. today those sizes are actually a 16/18 by mearsurement differences. When using a pattern from 50 years ago, you need to add quite a few inches into the size difference.

Monroe was actually what today would be considered as overweight. She was 5ft 5 inches tall and a size 10 when she died. a size 12 when she was at her height of fame.

No one would ever call her ugly.

It's amazing how times have changed. That's why girls like me... *fat* girls... do what they can with what they got. i work out... but at the same time.. i love me.. and i seem to not have any problem finding guys who feel the same. :p

As society today portrays beauty as a skinny or boney girl, we are starting to see a trend of negative feedback about these 'skinny' girls. Everything comes around. This is true about curvey women. If you see the art from centuries ago, as the women look healthy and curvey. This was the pinnicle of sexy - and to me - I think women with curves are the most sensual, sexy beings alive.

So basically, most guys like a woman with a flat or nearly flat tummy and nice boobs (not a flat chest) and a nice round derrier (not a flat behind). At least, that's what I think. I'm 5'5, 135 lbs and most of my weight is in my mid section. So needless to say, I don't really attract too many men... well, unless they're much older. I guess it's because back in their day it was more acceptable to be attracted to a larger sized woman. I have been raised in a family that believes that thin is good and curvy is bad. Personally, I'd like to be on the thinner side, but luckily, my boyfriend is very happy with the way I am. Phew, I got lucky!!!

NORTHEAST25..... OOOPS my bad, i didnt take into consideration that where your from hasn't converted into metric measurement yet... I'm from oz, we are using the metric system here and from my calculations in metric, she was a size 16.

Regardless, what decade it was, the conversions are the same. according to a biography i read about her, she weighed 75kg's, or 168.75lbs in her glory days, it wasn't till after her life turned for the bad she started to loose weight rapidly.

My goodness, girl..... you are curvy, not fat.
You have hips, a visable waist, and what i can gather you can trace your calf muscles into noticeable ankles, you have shape, not one of a surfboard.

something someone told me once. you call a skinny girl fat, she goes and throws up, you call a curvy girl fat, she'll kick ya arse. hehehe.... i'm sure i can speak for the other girls like us.... Thanks for being real.

I am glad to hear that men can appreciate all body types, but the majority goes to curvy. its great to see the change in society

oh, make no mistake, it wasn't "men" that changed. it was only magazines like cosmopolitan and people that trumpeted magabones women as attractive to men. i've never heard of a man that found scrawny attractive.

as for the obese taking over the word "curvy," i'd not heard that. curvy is a properly built and healthy body with stuff sticking out where it's supposed to stick out. fat is not curvy. athletic with unnaturally large breasts is not curvy either.

the body sizes/types go, in this order:
magabones/scrawny
skinny
slim
slim/curvy
curvy
overweight/chunky
fat/obese

there is practically no overlap.
