Umm, find someone you're attracted to browsing a product and there's gotta be something you could want next to where they're standing and strike up a conversation. It isn't rocket science.
I have always thought that the dog park is a good place to meet women,
I take my Ferret to the local park for a walk on a leash, she's a babe magnet. | |

That is unclear and IMO has led to not that practical posts/suggestions from most posters.
Does the OP mean:
a) Friends
or
b) A potential romantic interest (for any duration of rel)?
Most of the ideas so far, IMO, are best, at best, for making friends. And the fact that most people "there" may be single and available (quite a working assumption/hypothesis) is quite iffy! And in most places mentioned, starting a discussion may be met with even fear or simply negative reaction, in many societies, depending on a variety of social dynamics/systemics (security, general customs, etc). Unless one means a "numbers game", times at bat vs. batting average kind fo thing, yikes.
My aunt suggested to me the other day to get off the Net and trying to bring a woman over here or to find one of the very very few women from the country/city of current residence in here (POF), and go hang out a large private and glam hospital with coffee shops and restuarants where she went to make an exam and was impressed by the number and diversity as well as the ambience there! No chance, I told her, I already go everyday to my mom's small private hospital to visit her, but most of the patients are very old and most of the nurses married (I checked) and most of the carers foreign with families back home!
Thus, I have no practical/effective idea to offer, other than the POF (even though in my case, the local POF market is virtually non existent, especially the ones with photos).
C'mon are these the best ideas you can come up with, dear fellow forumites, or is the audience (and me) "biased" since we are alreasdy HERE (POF and POFF) and not very active in other networking "worlds"?
The best way to make datind contacts and get dates IRL was from the face to face contacts with employees of my client companies, before I gave that business up (great for making dates, bad for making a living, lol lol lol) | |

But seriously, anywhere and everywhere, just smile and talk to people. Most people slump around through their life with their head down and don't notice or welcome other people into their space. They catch sight of you, heads-up, happy and actually *gasp* talking to clerks in stores - you'll be shocked how much of a difference that can make in people noticing and approaching you. A person who is open and friendly is approachable.

Ah, I fully agree with what the fellow poster says, that type of IRL socialising is fun, interesting, illuminating and improves mood and "health" in general.
It is the area of finding a date applications via the above activities that I do not share the optimism of the fellow poster.

Besides it will make you look and feel better when you walk, and thats a plus for attracting the opposite sex! | |

Posted: 12/19/2007 3:03:58 AM | the park is a good one. if your shy bring a a cute "prop". The best props are some kind of adorable quadraped.
I used to have this adorable little white jill(female) ferret. Every time i took her out with her sticking out of my pocket or on my shoulder to the park or the farmers market i always had at least 2-3 women come up to talk to me about my ferret and try to get some pets in.
That ferret was a girl magnet both online and off.
you can substitute a dog or some other exotic furry creature any of em will get results not just a ferret.
I never tried it but it might this might work too. Try hanging around a women's prison
Most DOJ websites have an online database with info on the current guests.
You can try starting out as a pen pal, then visits for a woman who is nearing the end of her sentence. If ya do it right you can arrange to be the one who picks her up on her release.
There is a good chance she might even put out right away since she hasnt had a man in a long long time.
A word of caution though. if you are the type that has a tendency for domestic abuse and/or cheating you might want to stay away from the ones who are in for homicide. better to stick to the ones in for drugs or white collar crime. | |

Some groups go to movies and then walk to a nearby place to eat after the movie in order to get to know each other.
Some groups are aimed at singles and some are not and some , like the movie groups, you might meet someone.
i did go out on one date with a woman that chased me from a movie group.
Worst date of my life. She was cussing up a storm at this restuarant that I love.
I walked out. I have never walked out on a date and I have been on lots of dates.
Another woman wrote me and seemed interested but she was always too busy to meet. We never actually met at a group function. She just e mailed me out of the blue.
The theory is good though. | |

I see POF events all the time. You can even sign up for messages regarding them. Mind you I have never attended one but tis another avenue to explore.
I can probably for the first time ever be sincere in the following remarks.

I switched my home and auto insurance last week and met my Agent on Sat. to sign the papers. When he called me yesterday, he asked me out. I said yes. Plus he even saved me a lot of money on both. :)
You just never know when or how you will meet someone, but there is probably some opportunity every day. Just some of us are oblivious to it (that would be me) and other's are too shy/scared. | |

Split up your grocery list, Wal-mart shopping, or whatever, and give yourself multiple reasons to get out of the house. There are far hotter women at my local Target store around 5:30 buying toiletries than at the trendiest bar in town, plus no****blocks. You slip in under the radar of women you may never otherwise meet. Plus although meeting at the grocery store is almost cliche, guess what - nobody ever does it. I'm telling you, it's gold. | |

But how do you react when people do the opposite? When YOU try to smile, and people look down, away, or worse - straight through you. What then? I call it getting "window-paned," and I experience it every day at grocery stores. 
Anyway, I think other than the internet, venues that allow prolonged contact beteween people are probably best. School, place of worship, work, etc. | |
