| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 3:06:33 PM | Joe, As a devout Catholic myself I fully understand your dilemna. I don't have a clue what to tell you . I know my mom would prefer I stick to dating strictly Catholic girls. I've wondered what I would do if I met an agnostic or "new age". Most of them are so anti-Catholic that they won't even talk to one so to date it's been a non-issue for me.
To answer someone else's question; As far as I"m concerned Lutheran's are close enough and I would date a nice Jewish girl. It's always a relief when I find out a girl attends services every week. I've noticed quite a few women list a Christian denomination who don't actually attend services. I'm pleased to say that a couple of those ladies have returned to their churches after we've talked for awhile.
Good luck, -Chris | |

It'll be a problem when you want to have children...ie, are you going to baptize them? What faith if any will you raise them in etc. The reality is: you should ALLOW your child the right to pick his/her own religion of choice. When they are of an age old enough to understand the concepts of religion (which is NOT when they are little tykes) take them to many different places of faith. Take them to educated theologians to get their questions answered (meaning answered by those more informed than most of us "normal" folks who have been spoon-fed what someone else believes.) It is possible to raise a child that is free-thinking, yet filled with virtue, morals, sense of self, respect, responsibility, and sound character. It doesn't take organized religion to do that. Those traits are built in a home centered around a parent or parents who exhibits those traits ~ I didn't have to be Christian to raise my son with strict moral/ethical codes, I just had to live what I was attempting to teach him. I believe we call that: practicing what we preach. It should happen at home, no matter what religion one chooses to believe in or not believe in. As for baptism ~ until one is of sound maturity, it shouldn't happen at all in my opinion. If one chooses to cleanse the "soul" and still allow sins of the flesh, does it make much sense to sprinkle water in a babies face? Not to me, then again, I was baptized then kicked out of a Methodist church because I asked questions NO ONE could answer. Satan incarnate at age 5 ~ ewwwwww ~ I was a scary child. Guess my translation of Noah's arc got people all sorts of upset. (Sad day when I read at 5 what those at 40 had no clue about ~ but then again, no one said you have to read and be able to interpret to be a Sunday School Teacher. LOL) A child should have the right to knowledge ~ that includes knowledge of that which may frighten or even enrage the adult parent. I'm in the middle of reading the Old Testament ~ wow ~ some pretty horrific stuff in there. Glad no one made me read that when I was a Christian. Unless you allow all the facts to enter for a decision of any nature (even which sweater to buy) you are short-changing the intelligence and free-will of another. Thank goodness I was raised in a family of Methodists who didn't believe it was the ONLY way.
Damn free thinkers. Hmpffffffff. I damn them all to eternal fiery hell. LMAO ~ I'm always cold ~ it'll be a nice change.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 4:00:10 PM | Perhaps the real question here is WHY do we label ourselves with titles that mean nothing to us???? If we are not willing to follow the rules of what we affiliate ourselves with... What is the use of calling ourselves CATHOLIC... CHRISTIAN... or WHATEVER we call ourselves, if we DON'T desire to REPRESENT them honestly??? I guess I am passionate about not sticking a label upon myself if I am not willing to be accountable to it.... I will not do something if I don't understand what that implies... so when I call myself a Christian.. it does NOT mean I am perfect but I do have the moral obligation to be true to this decision, and try to the best of my ability to follow the beliefs of my choice...... As a Christian, it is our moral duty to find a mate within our belief circle... That is a broad stretch.... ( Inclusive of all Christian religions ) As a Christian we serve a God who states.. we are NOT to engage in pre-marital sex. However... It is impossible to find anyone these days who even seems to think that this is important.... let alone possible... but still we carry these labels ... almost like an albatross around our necks.... I would suspect that for alot of us, tradition takes front seat in alot of what we grow up like... so many people go to church and have no idea why they go... except that they have done this since they were children.... I did not mean anything offensive by what I posted in reference to being a Christian and not getting involved with a wiccan...... I was just shocked is all to find that it was not a dilema to the very person who professes to be a Catholic....If I was dating.. religion would have been the first thing I enquired about.... because this is something important in my life... I too believe that it is important to practice what we preach.... I don't want my daughter sleeping around... so I don't.... I don't want her lying or stealing... so I don't. It is all about being TRUE to what we BELIEVE.... It is NOT about judging others.... I have no room to judge anyone. | |

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 4:07:40 PM | truly believed in the Church he was attending He doesn't have to attend church to believe in God. He can believe in God. You don't believe in church that is a building that people come together as God's house, not to be worshipped but to be worshipped in. A religion is what is practiced.
We don't know what this girl does or doesn't believe. That is why he needs to speak with her. She threw a word out. Even on this thread there are people that have different beliefs about Wicca. (Geez, he has only been dating a couple months and obviously doesn't know too much about her that he is just finding out she may be practicing Wicca and he hasn't seen any of it obviously before. Don't get him married and having kids until he has a meeting of the minds with her.)
Please don't forget that the Bible was translated a couple times to the best of human's abilities. Loving someone is never wrong. Jesus loved a prostitute. I didn't say he was in love with, so don't send me hate mail. If they talk, he may find maybe she is just trying things out. I really feel we need to give people chances to understand them. Some people judge really fast and don't learn anything, they only want to preach what they have learnt and what they believe to be true. I can only write about what I read and have spoken to others about. Yeah, there is stuff out there that I don't know about and know that there isn't any human that knows it all. A book I read and believe may not be believed by someone else, fine, but don't say because you believe another book I have never heard about and none of the information was in any book I read has to be fact. I have problems with books that have information in them that isn't in Josephus's book.

Yeah, there is stuff out there that I don't know about and know that there isn't any human that knows it all.
With the utmost respect miss. I truly mean this. There is not a human alive that knows jack shit other than antiquated writings by man. Unless of course you have tete-a-tetes with the almighty. If this is the case please sent the almighty over here. I want a tete-a-tete too. Also. Be prepared for a visit from the nice fellas in the white suits (no not red suit) that would be santa silly. :)
I thank you. | |

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 4:30:14 PM | WOW I had to check my calendar twice to see what year it is!! Someone is actually concerned with "offending" the "catholic church?" .. can anyone say 'choir boy'?
POOOOOOOOF!
There now, lets all get naked and dance under the full moon!
Yup - just like I thought 1953 .. I bet it'll be different in the 60's
I'm wondering how this Wiccan womans family feels about her dating a 'catholic'...?

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 4:37:19 PM | It has been fun participating in these forums today.... but I see that when one posts something... things are always taken out of context... For the record... I am not Catholic.. nor am I the least bit concerned about offending the Catholic Church.... I grew up in a Catholic family... and I think the whole religion is nothing but a guilt trip... But ... I don't call myself a Catholic... I just am very perplexed as to why people find it necessary to carry titles they aren't proud of... is all.... | |

there isn't any human that knows it all. Ummm...doesn't that mean there isn't a human alive ummmm...once they are dead, they aren't considered human...so...you are just repeating what I said using some more information that I did not state such as text books, history books, and other books written by humans or let us also talk about the rocks that have been written on, scrolls and other forms. Of course maybe because of your name you think the pyramids were built by ets.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 4:48:11 PM | See now your doing what I feared you might. I meant no offense. Truly.
I was just pointing out the obvious. NO MAN/WOMAN knows Jack shit. What we do know is............
Man wrote down words from thousands of years ago in different texts. I don't care if you are the pope. You still don't know Jack. Except for what you regurgitate out of a book of stories. And it is a book of stories. Make no mistake here.
Now. Get me that audience with the almighty. I don't have all night. I'm busy ya know. Just let me speak to any one on this planet who chats with GOD. JUst one please. Then we can all be enlightened.
Can you say..................Aint gonna happen.
I can. Call it divine intuition.
I thank you. | |

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 4:54:24 PM | What's left of a human post mortum is generally termed: human remains. Cold term in my opinion, yet the term still applies, so I suppose we can assume "human" means "once was living/breathing" or in the case of a stillborn, it clearly states, non-living post birth. So, in that case we have an exception. At any rate, there isn't a human alive or dead who has or has had all the answers. And that includes the scroll writers, the Greek God creators/theorists, or anyone/someone else. I'd love to meet someone dead or alive who has the answers then we could put this petty drivel to rest. Oh wait.....then what would I do with my time? Sigh ~ roll on posters, debate the hell (pun intended...LMAO) out of this. It's entertaining me, and we all know ~ if it's entertaining one, it must be entertaining others.
~OT~ I had forgotten I once lived with a Wiccan. LMAO ~ how funny is that? I lived with, in a romantic relationship with a Wiccan and forgot. I guess that just goes to show, it doesn't really matter what "religion" of choice someone is, it matters WHO they are, not what they do with their spirituality of choice. I think I better email him and tell him I forgot he was Wiccan. He'll be crushed and I'll be feeling pretty silly because until 5 minutes ago, I truly did forget we went to Salem in October for the "fest." Ops.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:02:15 PM | spacemanspiffer.. many of the greats of faith started out just like you.. Paul for one use to hunt down and kill Christians. yet in the new testament other then Jesus or john no one can touch him..
As for the stories.. Jesus is one of the most documented people in history..
I suggest if you really want to here from him.. You ask him to reveal himself to you.Surely your not afraid of a story.. What have you got to lose..
I say this with all due respect and not in a finger pointing way..I’m just saying.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:07:35 PM | | as a minister I would say that Catholics and wiccans have far more in common than not. Not only are most saints former pagan gods, but Wicca is the most pomp and circumstance of paganism. I havbe been to more than a few rituals of each, I found the similarities shocking. As far as what to tell your folks I really think honesty with an open mind is the most respectful of all sides. | |

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:10:41 PM | I'm sorry northern lights that that is how you feel. Cuz well honestly I'm wiccan and was up to this afternoon dating a christian cuz his church group was gonna kick him out for seeing me (me and him had no issues just his church)....and all I can say is that to be religiously intolerant is to be narrow minded and stupid! Its shit like *do not to date outside his circle of beliefe* is the reason why I will never follow your path ever again....cuz I did when I was yonger and got tired of the hyprocrsy and full out crap. And well if your god is the true god then let him strike me down and everyone else who has chosen to believe in something else, then what an old book of stories has told them.
....hmmm look, i'm still standing. what a surprise.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:14:51 PM | ["Wiccan is a form of witchcraft.... It is a CULT.. as far as definition.... according to Christian belief"]
Cult : 1: formal religious veneration : worship 2: a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents. 3:great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book).
hmmm, sounds a bit like many religions to me.

Like I said sir. Right out of a book of stories. I shall not deal with this book. I shall deal with today. So you have had chats with God then? Is this what you are saying? How about you minister? When was the last time you broke bread with GOD. Tell me a story for thou hath no restraints set upon thee cept thy own.
I thank you.
My apologies OP. I'm going to start a thread and leave yours in peace.
Best of luck in your situation.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:16:31 PM | Perhaps belittling a group of peoples beliefs and religion by calling the book their religion is based on " an old book of stories " is what made them want to kick him out . You have a very condescending attitude mistress amora. Perhaps the pot and the kettle are both black here .
I choose to date within my own religion because i want the man i love to share all my important beliefs with me , not because i think people who believe other things are bad or evil . If you want others to respect your beliefs then respect others .

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:20:46 PM | I pity you, dude. You may not have a problem with it but I know my mom (devote Catholic) would shit bricks if I brought a wiccan girlfriend over for Christmas dinner. She would be friendly enough, but I would NEVER hear the end of it. Plus, if you are a practicing Catholic, you would be compelled to convert her. You're looking at a high nag factor here. Now my brother would only have a problem if she was a liberal. My dad?.. whatever my mother says.
I think you should bring it up right away. Let the fun begin!

Ahh no . I am a practicing catholic and never once in my life have i ever felt compelled to convert anyone . I never saw my parents display this behaviour either and they were practicing catholics.I think you have us confused with the religions who go door to door or stop you on the street.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:24:27 PM | I guess that is why belief systems are personal.... I have found my own belief system and do not tell others how to live or what to believe.... I have raised my daughter to make smart choices according to her conscience... and to the best of her ability.... She is 15 now.. and will someday soon.. be responsible for all her choices... just like I was for mine when I left home.....
I started out today by making one post.. to one person.... and it got something in me thinking .... about why we state we ARE SOMETHING... when we don't seem to care about that statement.... There are consequences to all our actions... and if we think what we do does NOT affect our families.. either positively or negatively... then we are simply being selfish.... Religious Freedom is THAT... a CHOICE...
I will NOT apologize for taking offence to someone stating they are Catholic ( which is a documented accepted Christian religion on the basis that it accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour ) but that they do NOT have a problem DATING a Wiccan... this makes NO sense to me whatsoever.... I am sure you will not lose sleep tonight cuz for once in my life.. I exercised the right to give my opinion for once....

Please don't forget that the Bible was translated a couple times to the best of human's abilities.
Actually not to the best of our abilities. The bible that we know came about the third century and because a particular set of believes, all other groups were considered heretics, persecuted and killed. Little simple things as was Mary a virgin, could she remain a virgin even when one of the gospels was written by a brother of Jesus. In the end the original Christians just couldn't agree and divided into two. Christian Orthodox and Catholic, then in the what, fourteenth century, because of Martin Luther the other big division ensue. So even to this day Christianity and how interprets a very flawed document manages many times to set as many people apart as it brings together.
For instance, I was taught biology and evolution by a very devout Jesuit Priest. He had no qualms about it. One is science the other one is faith. Science has interpretation laws, theories and so on. Faith has dogma and interpretation. But that subject in the last 20 years has exploded in North America as a big cyst.
So remember, the bible that you read, is the bible of the interpretation that managed to bucker the most opponents to a particular set of view.
Merry Christmas and enjoy the holidays. Hehehe.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:41:26 PM | " an old book of stories " What should we call it? A spade is a spade. And if the Bible, Old Testament or New is NOT a collection of stories, what is it? There is no preface, no named Authors who are verifiable, no one publisher, etc. So if not a collection of old stories (suupposedly 5,000 years old) what are we supposed to refer to it as? It is what it is: a collection of re-told, re-written stories. Snip-its from time periods gone by. I might believe in Peter Pan, but it's still just a story written and re-written over time.
I pity you, dude. You may not have a problem with it but I know my mom (devote Catholic) would shit bricks if I brought a wiccan girlfriend over for Christmas dinner. She wouldn't know unless you told her. Make a big deal of a little fact and it'll become an issue. Leave it as someone's private life and it's likely no one else would have a clue. Goodness, I fricken' forgot I lived with one ~ he didn't wear horns, except for special occasions.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:49:05 PM | I am a practicing catholic and never once in my life have i ever felt compelled to convert anyone. Whether you have ever felt personally compelled is a different matter entirely. Neither have I. But I wouldn't claim to be a practicing Catholic, either (even though I know the word should be capitalized). But I do know what the religion teaches. The nuns made sure of that.
^^
She wouldn't know unless you told her. I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation. I enjoy lively dinner conversation.

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 5:55:26 PM | Please note that I have read versions of the Bible that were not KJV etc. I have had them with the Greek in one column and English in the other. So really, I have read different versions, verbage etc. Not to mention Apocrypha, some books that I have read that were translated from Hebrew into English.
Ummm...yeah, different theories about Mary and if she had other children or if they were her husband's etc.
I try hard not to throw rocks or bricks at any one (unless they are stalkers and then they better back off cause I said so). It is pretty clear in the Bible that Jesus wouldn't judge anyone.
As a human I talk to God, he might not answer me in words I can hear, but I know he is in my heart and is listening. When I die, I don't plan on being human, I plan on being in spirit form and sure hope that I get answers to the millions of questions I have, of course that will mean a couple million more questions.
If this guy's gf is on POF, I wish he would have her come on. I would love to read what she has to say....I am wondering if the OP is even on this thread any more though...

| Catholicism vs Wiccan Posted: 12/19/2007 6:32:02 PM | O.P. Now look at what you did! This is supposed to be about a relationship...and look what its turned into!
I have stated on other forums about the "types" of men I have dated since becoming "earth-based". Christian, atheist...and the christian is the one who went with me to my fall equinox ceremony. He went out of curiosity. We do not "see" each other anymore, but everytime someone calls my kind "devil worshippers" he educates them on the truth.
Little minds abound. No matter what you do, someone will tell you you did wrong. You can never please everyone...only yourself.
Is she worth it? Now...there's the question.
