Registration Problems
Posted: 9/8/2008 6:45:08 AM
Hi there, I had some problems registering and was hoping you could help me (even though I've obviously found a bit of a work-around).

I tried to register using an email address I set up for this exact purpose, danthecanuck (at) me (dot) com. However, when I tried to register with this address, it wouldn't let me, telling me that an account with that email address already existed. However, when I went to the "I've forgotten my password" page, it told me this address didn't exist in the database. I've wiped out my cookies and cache to no avail. I also tried this under Firefox 3.0 and Safari 3.1 for Mac, and IE7 for Windows, with no luck.

I then registered, successfully, with another email address (I'm assuming you can look in my profile to find my currently-registered address. This worked fine, as I am now registered. However, I really wanted to only use the me.com address above for online dating, so that it's kept separate from any other email, as a precaution.

I went to the edit profile page, and tried changing it, but that didn't work either (the email address field just went blank). Could you please help me change my contact email address to the one specified above?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

me.com addresses don't work on the site at this time. If you want to keep your POF mail separate, there are lots of free email services you can use, such as Hotmail or Yahoo.

My whole profile has gone? Nothing contentious in it as far as I know and no message from the moderator otherwise? You have to ask yourself what's the point and I certainly don't feel like re writing it.

I have a POF member whom I keep in contact with. His profile was deleted and he doesn't know why. But it happened right after another POF member kept harrassing him after given her his phone number. She kept calling him and he asked her to stop. She was the one who alerted him to the fact that his profile had been deleted. He asked me to check and I saw it was missing. Now he can't create a new profile.

I hope this is the right place to post this...

Ok... before I tell my tale, I ask that you please don't dismiss it quickly without reading it thoroughly. I'm not here to cause trouble or bad-mouth POF. I really just need to inform you of an incident with your automated screening process that has left me and others locked out. (I've been steadily working through this situation with others over on another site group)

Forgive me if you've heard this all before. I have read the FAQs on this and believe I've done my due diligence before posting. I feel that this is something you may not be aware of. It's a very innocent mistake but it's caused me and others a tremendous amount of grief. So please, bear with me.

I used to have another account. That account served me very well over the years and was very useful to me in developing many friendships and some relationships. I thank you for that. However, things change over time and I know the majority of people on here may not understand it but here goes. I'm going out on a very big limb here to tell you that my personal life has changed enough that I felt a new profile was in order. After much self discovery, I felt it was time for me to take the next step towards my transgender lifestyle. The only reason I felt the need for a new account was for one simple reason... to change my gender.

That being said, here's where things went terribly wrong for me.

First. I unknowingly created my new account before removing my old one. This resulted in my new account being deleted.
Second. I deleted my old account, then I unknowingly forgot to clear my browser cache and history before creating my new account again. My account was again deleted. Bear in mind, that at this point, I now have no access to the POF forums. No account, no access (to post at least)
Third. I cleared my browser cache, history, etc and tried yet again.

This is where an issue comes up that I believe can be fixed very easily on POFs part and will probably prevent this from happening again.

When a new user's account is deleted, the user can access certain information about what the problem may be (not the forums but a FAQ meant to help new users) When the new user checks the criteria on this list for reasons for account deletions, there's an omission on there that really needs to be added. Nowhere on this list does it mention a new user can't use a name that is also a dot.com address. I assure you, I'm not a scammer or spammer. It was really a simple and totally innocent mistake. The username I was trying to use doesn't even have a web site. There's only a filler page there so I'm guessing the owner is just holding the domain for later use. Anyway, over and over I try to create my account all the while using this username that as far as I was concerned was perfectly fine. Remember, the FAQs make no mention of this. It wasn't until I managed to get into these forums that I discovered my error.

So I figure, ok. One more time. I try again, Clear cache, history, new username, new e-mail address, new password, the whole nine yards.

Here's where I'm stuck. I really need someone here to let me know if this automatic screening system has the ability to block an IP address? I really feel that's what's happened. Repeated attempts from my home computer now result in complete failure. My final resort was to try one last time but to use a different computer. Success. Here I am. This current user is working fine and I can now come here and (hopefully) be heard. I'm very timid now about even posting here for fear I may be deleted. Again, I BEG YOU... PLEASE DON'T REMOVE THIS CURRENT ACCOUNT. I feel through no fault of my own, I've been labeled and I really need to plead with you to fix the situation. I kid you not that this situation literally had me tears at one point.

Please, please, please... can I talk to someone before any judgement is passed on me? A simple conversation to clear this up is all I ask.

All I need to be happy is to regain my access from home. I'm terrified to try logging in from home until I talk to someone. My fear is any attempt to access from home will only result in accout deletion. I can't tell you how afraid I am right now to post this question but you have to realize, I'm only trying to help P.O.F fix a simple and innocent mistake.

Ok... I'm reluctantly going to post my message now. Here goes... please be kind.

Thank you for your reply Mr. Trapped. I can certainly understand your reasons for wanting to keep that information on the 'Q.T.' My humblest apologies for being presumptious.

I guess my only real problem is getting in touch with someone to fix my 'home computer' predicament. If that conversation needs to be done in private, that's completely fine with me. I don't want to put anyone in a tight spot over posting speculative information.

Is it possible for someone to message me directly so we can fix the situation?

Again... I'm begging here.

Sorry. No idea how or where to post on this forum. I've very new to this site and have had my account deleted several times in just one week.
I take ages filling out the various sections only to find the next day I have completely disappeared.
No idea why as I have not broken any rules. I can only assume this account will be gone by tomorrow too. How is one to upgrade to a paid membership when this keeps happening?

I did all the troubleshooting suggested. I don't use IE anyway. I use firefox.

Usually when your profile is deleted ina day or two it is our programs scanning profiles looking for possible invalid data or other illegal things about your profile.

For example have two accounts share an email account will get yu deleted for sure.

I do not see anything invalid as far as what you currently have written in your profile. Might remove the word "fetish" just to eliminate that as a possibility

If it happens again go creat a brand new yahoo email acount and try registering with THAT.

I'm also having this problem. I don't have any country names or words like account or transfer in my profile info. I can't spot anything that seems wrong but my info keeps getting deleted!

This is what I have if anyone can take a look and see why,

"About Me
I'm a laid back individual but not lazy. I enjoy media-centric hobbies and I am an artist and designer. I have graduated from the Institute of Technology in Clovis, from the Web and Graphic Design program while making the Dean's List. I currently have an internship creating web pages with the Valley Yellow Pages in Fresno. I would love to further my education when I have the opportunity. My long term career goal would be a job working in animation, for film, television or other media.

I would consider myself an intelligent individual, open to new ideas and friendship. I am rather silly at times, usually good for a laugh. I enjoy a wide range of music, everything from heavy metal, punk, "emo," industrial and a range of rock. Some of my favorite groups are The Birthday Massacre, Shiny Toy Guns, Gorillaz, Coheed and Cambria, Avenged Sevenfold. I love the Mythbusters and Pawn Stars but I dont' watch much tv. Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino are my favorite film directors and for books I love sci-fi and fantasy, Anne McCaffery, Robert Jordan and George R.R. Martin are some of my fave authors.

I'm a nerd and love nerdy things like cartoons and video games and I retain more useless information about movies than is strictly necessary :p However, I'm very faithful and I have respect for others. I think I'm a hopeless romantic and I know I'm absolutely loving.
First Date
I enjoy talking very much, so anything fun where I could get to know someone, and they come to know me, would be ideal, be it shopping or eating out and just having a conversation. Bowling is always fun, fairs and parks are great also. I love movies too so I'm pretty open."
