| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 4/9/2007 1:14:31 AM | | I don't understand why people don't like the "twang". I'm by no means a country fan, in fact most of the new stuff is completely laughable to me, but I really like the "classic twang" channel on accuradio.com. I like the sad, old Hank Williams, Patsy Cline stuff, that crazy trucker stuff from artists like Red Sovine [sic] and most especially, the depression era folk-country by guys like Woodie Guthrie and Harry McClintock. In fact, here's a link to a 1926 Harry McClintock song titled "Halleujah, I'm a Bum": http://www.archive.org/details/Bum | |

LOL I'm seeing Social Distortion tonight, and they do an awesome cover of the Jonny Cash song "Ring of Fire" Me First and the Gimme Gimme's did an entire CD of country cover songs. Punk versions of Garth Brooks, Kenny Rodgers, Dolly Parton, Dixie Chicks..... good stuff!!!

No country music at all for me, even if some people here think that country music of today has some rock or whatever, I really really disagree with that..

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 4/18/2007 6:53:00 AM | | Every genre of music talked about here, other than country, has stolen lyrics and full songs from country, so, get a clue, what's redneck is someone that judges something without getting to know what it is or its roots. I like most kinds of music, but to say that the lyrics in country are stupid, is somebody that's listened to too much "pop pop pop pop music, pop pop pop pop music" or wham, c'mon guys. And some of the biggest hits in pop culture were country songs first, "I swear", "I can love you like that" are just a couple off the top, "Act naturally" Beatles. And those that think any other music has more meaningful lyrics than "your cheating heart" or "crazy" needs to listen to songs before they indulge. | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 4/19/2007 6:48:11 PM | The best & most fav country music comes from the eightes/nineties era. Before that the twang, lost your car, your house, your girlfriend & your wife, and your kids, and best friend SUCKED...I don't listen to music to get depressed..:( A lot of the newer country tunes are starting to suck in the same way again. If you go down the charts you'll find a "HECK" of a lot of slow tunes,,,,what happened to up tempo legit tunes.... A few of the ones out now are most deff a clone from some of the other genders of music.. A GOOD THING - A lot of the country tunes out now are not compressed never as bad as the pop,rock,hip-hop,,etc...It's nice to be able to hear everything in the song,,not just (as my parents put it back in my younger days) a blast of constant noise... The rock & hip-hop seem to be the worst.... That's my two cents worth.... | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 5/10/2007 9:18:52 PM | Country's OK, but as an earlier poster stated, it's been very diluted. I mean, c'mon! Bob Seger doing country? I thought he all about that old time rock 'n' roll! And Hootie and the Blowfish? But a lot of the female country singers are hot! | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 5/10/2007 9:34:22 PM | I used to enjoy some country before 9-11 starting with Jim Reeves , Marty Robbins and Eddy Arnold. Then Don Williams and Willie Nelson (I still love Willie). Then I added George Strait and Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Wynona , The Dixie Chick, to name a few, to my collection. There are lots of good new artists and and lots of crap too. Not all country music is good, but then neither is all rock n roll, or jazz or blues or any other genre.
And those that say it's all red neck, hick music I beg to differ. Celtic, blues and folks and gosple are the roots of country. That's not red neck to me. Not all country music is twangy "got drunk, cheated on the old lady, she left me, penniless and broke, paying alimony so I kicked the dog" music. Some is, but very little.
Check out Wikipedia if you want an interesting, informative read about country music.
As far as country music sounding twangy steel guitars do. And a lot of country music singers of from the South. Nashville, the country music capital, is in the South. I think if you have an southern accent you're going to sound twangy, can't be helped. To me that's how everyone from the southern states sounds. Alberta has produced a lot of good country music artists. They go to Nashville to work and when they come back home after a year or so they twang too saying "Purdy lid-el thaing" instead of "Pretty little thing".
Oh! And Ray Charles did some totally fabulous country music with "I Can't Stop Loving You " and "Georgia". Don't try and tell me he was a red neck!
Oh, and don't songs like "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" just make you proud to be a country music fan? roflmao
Some where/time after 9-11 I gave up on country music after so many singers got religious and morally righteous. Thank god for the Chicks!

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 5/13/2007 4:16:17 AM | Like Barbara sang, I was country when Country wasn't cool and still wearing my hat, boots and jeans. Until I was ten or so the only rock I had ever heard was Elvis and the rest of my mom's old 45s and LPs. Since then I have become a fan of pretty much all types of music including 80s Glam Rock, Punk, Opera and even some rap. I have spent most of my twenties working around music and was opened up to even more types, but my Heart has always been tied to country Music.
Unfortunately Country has always had a bad rap just like a lot of other things from the South. Folks that don't know will never understand and it is simple as that. Anyone that says they can't stand country 9 times out of 10 has never listened to Country. As has already been said there is something for everyone. Even if you mostly love Rap or Alt Rock there are probably a few songs out there for you.
Country music is probably the most diverse type of music there is. Thank god there are still a few Rednecks(not a name to be ashamed of despite what some folks think) and Cowboys around, but they probably make up 1% of Today's Country.
We have some of the most beautiful women with some of the most amazing voices in Music today, Faith Martina and Shania just to name a few. We have had doctors give up their practice to follow their music. For those that don't believe that one look up Cleve Francis. He wasn't round long and I am sure a few will be surprised thinking he is a Real redneck.
There have been some amazing bands and artists as well as some annoying gimmicks. We will probably never live down Billy Ray's Mullet and Achy Breaky Heart and in 10 years I am sure folks will say the same about Cowboy Troy, 3 foot Fred and the Musik Mafia.
Some folks will always say they hate country even if half of their Cd collection, Tapes or MP3s came out of Nashville. While it has changed and not all for the better whether it is Hank, Waylon, Willie and the Rest of the Outlaws or Trace, Big & Rich the

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 5/13/2007 2:45:20 PM | I resided in North Dakota and Texas for years, and I've heard all types of music: from classical to gamillon, and rock to the blues I kind of like Western type music, but Country & Western can be plain depressing, just like the blues. He done her wrong, She done him wrong, They're doing it wrong, Somebodies getting drunk, moms going to prison, the dog got hit by a pickup truck in the rain........ If life were this bad the only thing to do is eat a bullet. | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 5/24/2007 6:26:41 PM | The problem doesn't lie in the music it's in the person. I know for a fact some people stereotype country music listeners as "hillbillies." I do like all type of music (except rap which to me is just talking), but country music is my favorite. The best concerts arethose given by country music artists. So much fun...people just "let go!" | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 5/27/2007 12:25:37 PM | OP - I didn't realize there was an obvious problem with country music? I hear some folks talk about the depressing lyrics, which I find interesting. I've often thought a song "should" make you feel something, emotions ya know? I most certainly am a fan of country style music, as I am of 70's rock, classic rock, and other genre's, but something that I enjoy about country "are" the lyrics. A song is simply a story set to song, not? Especially when the writer and the artist can connect with those words, either through experience or personality. Methinks also that for every "depressing" song, there most likely is a jubilant, or thought provoking, or just plain fun song to offset it. I've listened to country all my life, played in a band, ran the songwriter circ in Nashvegas, and have yet to hear that song about, "she took my pickup and my dog...et al" I admire the "non sellouts" whom don't bow down to the labels, ie: Waylon, Hank, Shania (why her? She refused to tour until she headlined, gutsy!) Chris LeDoux, and most recently Elizabeth Cook (Balls) So, if there "IS" indeed a problem with country music, I would say it's the labels | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 5/27/2007 5:20:45 PM | The only problem I can find with Country Music... is that there is not enough of it over here in England.
We lost CMT almost as soon as I got a cable connection.
Last year I thought I'd found heaven when I found 3C on my 'freeview' box only to have it removed this year..... sob sob
COUNTRY MUSIC!...... I LIKE IT!! I LOVE IT!!!
