| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/18/2006 4:13:05 PM | | I love my Beatles right through to Nickleback but all my stereos are tuned to Country. I love that one they sing mostly about real life and compassion, not that Rap stuff that U can barely understand to begin with and rapping about violence and killing to self Mutilation. Nothing like Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/21/2006 8:53:02 PM | | What kind of country music is really the question. The classic stuff like Chet Atkins, Johnny Cash, Terry Reed, Neil Young and other good country artists or the junk like the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks and Reba that is on CMT? I love all the classic country music, not the popified stuff that is so repetitive that one could swear they were listening to the same song just sung by a different person from Alabama. Neil Young is easily one of my favourite country artists even though he is known for playing rock music as well. Heart of Gold is a fantastic country music DVD, filmed just a few days after Neil had surgery for a brain anureism. While his singing is a bit monotone he is still an awesome songwriter. I just cant put up with the new stuff though, it just sounds so much the same in terms of lyrics and overall musical quality, there isnt much thats unqiue about new age country artists. | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/22/2006 9:28:14 AM | | so, if country music is so awful, why is it that Rascall Flatts was voted artist of the year on the AMA awards last night, beating out the likes of Beyonce and the others people rave on about in this thread? the votes were texted in by fans ... so what does that say about what most people prefer? music which gets to the "heart" of the "people" will always be popular - and country music does just that. there's good and bad in EVERY type of music. I listen to any type, if it's GOOD. | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/25/2006 2:42:59 PM | | I like country music. But some I'm not very fond of like Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar". UUUUgggghhh!!!! I mean don't get me wrong, I like going to a bar to play pool or go dancing, but I don't like the words of the song (hookers, hitchhikers, etc.). If there's hookers I won't go in. It's just that some songs are too demeaning. I preferably prefer 70's and 80's country. I'm not too much into the new country so much. I do like Gretchen Wilson, but her song "Redneck Woman" is great, but not all women from the south is like that. I'm from Texas (originally, born and raised) and I'm nothing like that. I prefer the city/big town life in Texas, such as Houston (where I grew up around pretty close from there). But I love other music too, except for rap and some hip-hop music... UUUUUGGGGGHHHH!!!! | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/29/2006 9:03:11 AM | Music is a vital part of human communication. It may not mean anything to people who live in a different culture or a different community, but it's representative of people who make it and listen to it.
There's alot of music I can't stand listening to. I go through the train station and I hear Chinese music being played on one of those one string instruments that's like a violin, only screechier.... and it's a musical form that's not even based on harmony. It sounds almost as if it never repeats itself... BUT, this is part of that person's existence. It's like literature. It's a reason for that person being here in this world. It has meaning; if not to me, then somebody....
It's important for us to preserve our cultural roots and humanity. Music is almost, if not as big or bigger a part of that than the words we speak. It's so old that there's a flute that was found that scientists think was played by Neanderthals... certainly the same era as the beginnings of human languages.
From yodeling, to rap, rock and everything else.... it's important that we have it. It's a dialogue between people; a way they can present manifestos of truth to each other that they understand and a way for them to express THEIR lives.
As I was saying, I don't like the political stance of modern country music, but for people who like it, it's saying something to them. What it's saying to them might be more important than what it's saying to the rest of us. If all music had the "right" politics, then it wouldn't be genuine...
I'm not in favor of invalidating it by saying something's "wrong" with it. Diversity is important, even for those who oppose it.
funny but true.. | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/30/2006 1:45:56 AM | Some country music is ok, like Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" - heaps better than Witney Houston's version!!
But the monotonous type I don't go for.. Give me some variety..

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/30/2006 6:24:41 AM | ^ Some of the BEST Country and Western Music IMHO was (still is, actually) done by Brits. Ever hear the Kinks "Muswell Hillbillies"? .... or many things by the Stones, albeit with tongue in cheek: "Dear Doctor", "Girl with the Faraway Eyes", "High and Dry"?
A great artist who is almost totally unsung on thise side of the big lake is Lonnie Donnigan... This guy set the world on fire... inspired all the British invasion bands and many more...
Those bands also brought back alot of instruments that otherwise may never have been heard from again, like lap steels, slide style guitar, mandolins, dulcimers...
What they did was to take something the American mainstream had thrown away, reshaped it and threw it back at us so we could use it again...
My hats off to the Brits.
A great guitar record is Mark Knopfler with Chet Atkins on "Neck and Neck".

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 11/30/2006 10:23:44 PM | Music is music and if its good its good. I listen to ALL music and am a flicker when it comes to radio stations in my car... I like what I like...
I dont differentiate between country/rock/rap/blues/folk/bluegrass/soul/hiphop/new-wave/heavy metal/classic or etc...
If it is good (in my opinion) then I will like it. to do otherwise would only make a music fan miss out on some good tunes because of a closed mind.....

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 12/1/2006 2:06:08 AM | | Dare I say it.....CMT! It seems to me that there exists a very narrow window of exposure and regular air play. Almost like pro athletes, difference being that many of these artists are just hitting their prime when they're put out to pasture. It saddens me when you can't hear a legend singing on top 40 country radio. It's all in the packaging. Waylon was'nt a "pretty boy" per se, but he was a complete musician. Some of Johnny's best work came shortly before/after his passing, and I've only heard it played on adult alternative/americana stations. There are some fabulous alt-country bands out there, slowly circling back to the source. All music, all we are, comes from one original, basic thread. Twang On! J | |

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 12/3/2006 11:16:37 AM | its different taste....
I say i don't like country music, but when i worked at a pharmacy they had country in the music rotation, and i caught myself humming two of the songs on occasion. The main reason i don't like country music is because a lot of it (which i agree is only the little i see on tv or radio), sounds the same. I don't like the long guitar sounds...or the country vocals. I do however like how they have stories and deep meanings for there song. There is very few country music that i could bare, so thats why i say i like almost everything but country. Because there is so few country songs that i like.
But its the same as people saying they don't like hip hop or rap, or heavy metal. They might not have just found the type of "that" music that they like.

| WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH COUNTRY MUSIC? Posted: 12/6/2006 1:25:40 PM | '' cookie cutter ''
In the past two decades - country music has been wrought with
cookie cutter performers
wearing the same cut of tea shirts
wearing the same cowboy hats
driving the same pick up trucks
having the same phoney country drawl - be they from Nashville -New York -Canada
They all seem to sound the same
Cookie cutter - mundane - phoney
Representing the apitamy of the mediocre in pop music
