(Cousins)
Old School Songs
You have been my lighthouse In every storm You have given shelter You have kept me safe and warm And in my darkest nights You have shone your brightest lights You are my saving grace Darling I love you.
You have been the pilot Who guides me home You have been the my rock As on the seven seas I roam And when I was becalmed You were the strength in my arms You are my saving grace Darling I love you.
And when I found my back Was torn and broken on the reef You sailed your tiny boat Across the dark seas of my disbelief.
You have been the anchor And I the chain Straining as we hold ourselves Together in the rain I have found you ever there My constant keeper's daughter fair You are my saving grace Darling I love you.

| Favorite Retro Song Posted: 6/1/2005 5:27:48 PM | Oh there are SOOOOO many "retro" songs I love! I am so stuck in the 80s musically. I have to say, though, that Duran Duran was, is, and always will be number one with me! But I am rather sick of "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio". Some other songs that come to mind: "Love Plus One" by Haircut 100 "Whistle Down the Wind" by Nick Heyward (nobody seems to remember that song) "The Riddle" by Nik Kershaw "London Calling" by The Clash "Drive" by The Cars "Renegade" by Styx "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" by Cutting Crew "Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister "Kiss You When It's Dangerous" by 8 Seconds "Oblivious" by Aztec Camera "Ball Of Confusion" by Love and Rockets "Gypsy" by Fleetwood Mac
now I'm drawing a blank.....I'll probably think of more later.
Oh, someone mentioned "Separate Lives" by Phil Collins and Marilyn........crap, gone blank on her last name now. That song still makes me cry. Anyone remember the song "Homosapien"? I forget the name of the guy who did that too. So many people thought it was a "bad" song.
|
| Favorite Retro Song Posted: 6/1/2005 5:54:38 PM | I used to love the song "Alive" by Love and Rockets...
I love reading all these lists...they remind me of even more songs...how about "No One Is To Blame"...who sang that anyway?
Never heard "Homosapien", at least not that I remember. And Pale Beneath The Blue does a cover of "Died in Your Arms" that is spectacular.
I also liked Weird Al. I know that will not shock any of you.

I started listening to Concrete Blonde in 8th grade...I finally saw them live two years ago. Thanks for the Howard Jones..I kept wanting to say Howard Johnson and KNEW that wasn't right!
They Might Be Giants...there's a band that stands the test of time...Elton John...he's classic...I still love Too Much Joy...but nobody else seems to know who they were.
I wanna be sedated...Ramones

| Favorite Retro Song Posted: 6/3/2005 8:09:28 PM | As a former jock at KYYX-FM 'The rock of the 80's' my credentials are in order to weigh in on the genre...The Cars, 1984 and the track was titled "You might think." -An audio train wreck that somehow morphed into a coherent song; nearly every instrument bed is disjointed and the only constant is the drummer nailing thr bass with a slave galley cadence. The hook after the truncated bridge is a delight as every instrument on hand clatters to life in an exuberent cacaphony of mayhem. | |
