| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 11/30/2008 9:39:13 PM | wouldn't it be interesting to see the adverts directed at women at the ages they started to smoke - all the portrayal of elegance, sophistication etc ... can't say I saw any 'promiscuity' in the ads... unless you count the scantily clad Alpine girls... oh wait... that's my brand ... but then again maybe in a few years they'll be saying women who use tampons ala the scantily clad bikini girls enjoying their freedom, are also far more promiscuous... when will men get it - it's not always about them..... | |

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 11/30/2008 9:55:01 PM | Geez - as if smokers weren't already classed as second class - as are women - now we are lumped together for another class of distinction - I give --- does the stats mean that Canadian women are more promiscuous because they smoke more - does promiscuous you are depend on how many you smoke - or how early you started. Do you get bonus points for quitting a couple of times???? I am British so does that mean another thing? Wow Z | |

What a crap generalization! And what of the men who smoke? I smoke and I’m not promiscuous. I take great offense to this.
I must admit that if they either got rid of the 500% taxation on tobacco or else added a nice little 500% taxation on petrol/benzine/gasoline/carbon-fuels to show that they really do care about toxic gas emissions and aren't just trying segregate other humans through incessant poverty inducing conmanship then they could go ahead and call me as promiscuous as they like, and maybe if I had that extra income that the anti-tobacco nazis steal from me in broad daylight every day of my life then I could afford to be as promiscuous as they want me to be then.

I make it an habit if I feel that a little tobacco might help my cannabinoid receptors to come up with an original solution. *** but always smoke downwind and don't litter after!

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 12/2/2008 3:20:58 AM | smokers seem to be more careless all around.
They are not even scared of getting fired from their jobs to go on a million smoke brakes..

Maybe its because they are reckless! You have to be to smoke!

On the contrary. By the Oriental Zodiac I'm a Fire Goat.
If you're afraid of fire then go live in the tropics and paddle your own canoe.

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 12/2/2008 7:26:43 AM | | Statistically speaking, it is true. Smoking is an addiction and affects parts of the brain involved in making decisions. Smokers (generally speaking) tend to be a little less choosy and a little more spontaneous in following through on an attraction. Of course this does not mean all or even most smokers lack judgment, and any individual may even have better than average ability to act responsibly or selectively - however you prefer to look at it. That's why there are so many personal objections to the statement, but they do not invalidate the statistics. However, over the whole population, women who smoke - according to the research I read a year or so ago (sorry, I didn't keep the reference) - are statistically more likely to have more sexual partners and short-term liaisons than those who do not, hence the OP's statement that they are more promiscuous. | |

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 12/2/2008 7:36:55 AM | I'm taking many of these comments as pretty insulting and very generalized. I am a smoker. I am NOT reckless and careless. On the contrary. People I know, consider me a person that always thinks first (over thinks many times :) and never acts irresponsible or reckless. Never been a big drinker, can count on one hand the number of men that I have been with sexually, do not smoke around people that don't smoke, go outside to smoke when visiting friends that don't smoke, and NEVER smoke around babies. I even stay in my room or go outside to smoke in my OWN place.
Maybe the survey was taken at a bar by single women that were drunk, because saying that a majority of women that smoke are promiscuous and reckless is absurd, IMO.

I'm not inclined to doubt this, but it strikes me that it may be interpreted quite the other way around, and probably should be.
That is, I think the truer statement is likely to be that people - not just women, I am sure! - who have many sexual partners and short-term liaisons are also more likely to smoke than are those who are more sexually abstemious.
Same stats, but it sounds completely different, doesn't it?

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 12/2/2008 10:19:17 AM | | I dont believe this is true. Your stats dont prove it to be so. Many women will go back to smoking or start smoking because of the emotionel or social stress of relationship breakdowns. Also changing relationships or partners affect the issue in many ways | |

There was a Playboy cartoon years ago which showed a group of people at a party, all dressed up in tuxes and gowns, holding champagne glasses.
One of the women was on her knees orally servicing one of the male guests, while the others looked on with eyes wide and questioning.
The guy being serviced said, "Oh, don't mind her. She's just trying to quit smoking."
Sometimes women substitute nookie for cigs. Where's the demographic for THAT??

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 12/2/2008 12:14:39 PM | I read a study that stated that men who drink coffee have more sex and stay harder longer. Found out Folgers funded the study. Ive studied statistics more than most. I find this study deserve ridicule (no offense OP) but numbers can be juggled and odd pairings can be made with seemingly nebulous numbers. Just b.c 75% of schizophrenics are left handed doesnt mean 75% of left handed people are schizophrenic...
External validity on some thing like is precarious at best. I dont think there is any EV.

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 12/2/2008 3:17:49 PM | statistics can be made to show anything. lots of people who can't argue any other way fall back on statistics. I think the subject of this post is total crap. I've never smoked, don't intend to start, don't understand why people keep on doing it and I've had friends who were both smokers and non-smokers. As long as they were considerate around me while they smoked, no problem. I never found my smoking women friends to be more free and easy with the guys than my non-smoking friends.
for anyone to make such a judgment about women who smoke is pretty sad. smokers aren't terrible people, they just have a terrible habit.

| Women who smoke are far more promiscuous. Posted: 12/2/2008 5:24:44 PM | Statistics are a strange animal, as anyone knows who has spent some time studying them....
This "information" presented here falls in the category of an extremely WEAK correlational relationship at best... at worst a completely misleading interpretation of entirely separate information.... As they say.... "lies!! Damn LIES! And STATISTICS!!!
Always, ALWAYS ask certain questions when dealing with "statistics"....What kind of a study was done, what was the size of the control group or targeted demographic, and what parameters are being used to interpret the data....And that's just for starters.... Learning to think in a critical manner is imperative in order to NOT allow yourself to be manipulated or coerced by what is basically faulty and flawed information put forth by people with questionable agendas of their own....
