| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 7/23/2008 12:35:17 PM | | Had high expectations for this movie but was kind of disappointed. I think I may go see it again because I wasn't paying attention enough. | |

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 7/24/2008 10:02:40 AM | i was always a fan of Jack Nicholsons joker, but the thing is...he emulated Cartoon show joker. He emulated say...old adam west batmans joker.
Heath Ledger took comic book joker, or jokers own graphic novel joker, and played him the exact way you'd expect him to be. An anarchist with a very hidden past, hidden enough that he's willing to make up stories about it to cover up what really happened. He's bitter towards the world, and has no personal agenda other than to watch the world burn. No money, no revenge. His goal is to show the world that there are no good people left in it.
The joker, in fact, in the comic books killed robin with a metal pipe. He beat his face in, sat on his chest and beat the **** out of him with a metal pipe and laughed the whole way through.
Heath Ledger's hype in this movie has nothing to do with his death. If he were still alive, the hype would be the same and he would've become one of the hottest commodities in hollywood.
By far his performance as joker is oscar worthy and if you can't see that then watch it again.

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 7/24/2008 3:43:28 PM | I saw the movie today and I have to admit it was quite good....
Ledger's character as the Joker had that comical appeal. At times he made me laugh with the way he carried himself. I give him two 's all the way. It's a shame he passed away and not be able to see the reaction people are saying about his role as the Joker. There won't be a sequel with the Joker in it that's for sure, for the reason that no other actor can take his place.

I have to disagree on that. Ledger or no Ledger, the Joker is an icon that will outlast any actor who protrays him. I do agree that Ledger gave probably the best performance out of any actor who has portrayed him so far, but I'm sure there will be someone else somewhere along who can bring his own spin to this character and make it his own. It may take a few years before they can bring the character back, but he won't be gone forever. He is just too popular.
On a side note....I'm a little wary of people suddenly holding Ledger up to this "he was one of the greatest actors of our generation" status. (not just "Dark Knight" fans, but in general). And I'm not saying anyone on this forum has said or suggested that, BTW, but with all the media hype surrounding his death, I think people are getting a little carried away (think Curt Cobain, James Dean, etc). Ledger was a great actor who had the potential to be one of the greatest actors, but he wasn't quite there yet. I think he was just making that transition when his life was cut short.
Still was a great performance, though.

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 7/25/2008 6:35:35 AM | while i totally agree with what you said about ppl getting carried away because of his death, I think had he not died his role as the joker would've been his real gods honest breakthrough role that pushed him from great actor to superstar.
Sortof how playing the joker did for Jack
but i totally agree that they're gonnna have to try and replace Ledger as the joker. They certainly can't leave such an important character in the batman world out just because the actor playing him died. Chris Nolan already exclaimed to have no intention of changing the already written scripts.
Word on the street is Daniel Day Lewis could be replacing him, and also, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is said to be interested in the Penguin's role.

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 7/25/2008 10:21:24 AM | Could you imagine what Gary Oldman (from about 10-15 years ago) would have done with the Joker? In his "villain" prime (think mid 90's--Dracula, The Professional, True Romance, etc.), he would have taken this character to a level that would have given Ledger a run for his money.
It's still great to see him playing Gordon, though. I've had a mad crush on him since I was in college. (Oldman, that is...not Gordon).

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 12/17/2008 12:35:03 PM | I enjoyed it very much.
Although I still prefer Nicholson's Joker Ledger took the character in an interesting direction that was very entertaining.
There were a few plot twists that got me. One you rarely see in a Hollywood film, one that surprised me and one that was very Hollywood but still made me smile.
Highly recommended. | |

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 12/17/2008 1:21:26 PM | I think Heath Ledgers performance is one of those times where it truly lived up to the hype.If you watch every facial expression, every emotion n his face, you`ll see someone that really could have been something huge or peaked too soon.I dont mean this in a morbid way but maybe dying after this performance will truly make him memorable.Imagine if Jack Nicholson died straight after making `One flew over the cuckoos nest`? or if Sylvester Stallone died after making the first Rocky?Their performances would never have been numbed by `mildly successful` projects later on.Look at James Dean and such.Sure i wish he was still alive because i feel he would have become someone special in years to come,acting-wise.But we are dealt the cards we are given...And sadly the house always ends up winning in the end. | |

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 12/30/2008 7:56:58 PM | | I disliked this movie. It was too dark in my opinion and batman has been so overdone by so many directors. I mourn for Heath Ledger dieing and he made a good joker according to a lot of people but overall the movie just didn't work for me. | |

| Batman: The Dark Knight (movie) Posted: 12/30/2008 8:08:19 PM | It was a film that just didn't feel right. Hard to pin it down but it just had a strange made by a recent film school grad kind of look and feel. It was dark but not the gothic kind of dark. More like a -it looks better in low lighting kind of appearance. Ledger did a good joker though I thought more than a little depth to the character. Christian Bale looked like he could have used a suppository though. A real cardboard acting job on his part. | |
