Soccer is more interesting than your mind numbingly boring excuses for sports. NFL a **stardised version of rugby develped for add breaks. baseball a **stardised version of rounders

| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/4/2008 1:15:26 PM | I agree with you Frankster... Take off the helmets and pads and we'll see how much NFL players want to bang heads. I have no doubt that if NFL players had to play with the old leather helmets, concussions and neck injuries would fall by about 90%. When you get down to it, NFL football is really pretty dull overall. Soccer is dull too, but at least they keep the action going all the time. | |

| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/4/2008 1:47:37 PM | lol tit for tat.
all in fun. The strategy part of NFL is ok. just the pther parts that are horrid. Baseball well, where to start?
|
| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/4/2008 2:11:09 PM | 1) NFL - one problem I have is with OT. The team that wins the coin toss has the advantage and can get in field goal range and win the game. That sucks. After a score in overtime give the opposing team one possession to tie or win and continue from there.
2) NHL - Either increase rink size or bring down to 4 on 4. Let the skill come out and you'll see the fastest sport in the world. Then maybe NHL wont be broadcaster on the Outdoor Sports Network in the U.S. Oh and FIRE GARY BETTEMAN!
3) MLB - If I were to get excited about my home team (the BJ's), get 8 teams per conference in the playoffs. Not the 4. Get fans excited for a playoff race.
4) NBA - DONT TOUCH THE RIM HEIGHT. The aggresiveness to go to the hoop will be gone. No more facials and poster shots. Game is perfect as it is.
5)Boxing- To me the better sport over UFC. UFC is too glorified, no art or class behind it. Boxing has to do something about this sport I dont know, some kind of league system over this ranking bullshit and unified belts. Its a mess, too bad cause the finesse and class of the yesteryears is gone.
and just to add one thing about soccer.. dull perhaps to you.. but to the rest of the world that is not U.S, quite the passion.
Ever been in Stadio Olympico in Rome to watch a Roma and Lazio game? Scary Intense. Ever been to Manchester City vs Manchester United game? Ever been to any professional game outside of the MSL league? World Cup, Euro ?
There is a big difference between what is played in the premier leagues and the MSL and of course it is all part of the culture. Just like baseball is to America which I won't even sit through an inning.
Its not only the sport but the venue and fans that make the entire experience chilling. No one sits down at a game, everyone is off their ass cheering, chanting and if you are on the side of the scoring team, you wont be standing in the same spot. Insane!!

...i gotta agree here.........that is pretty much what the NFL game is!.....a 3 hour commercial with a few plays thrown in between!

| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/5/2008 1:27:07 AM | Good in movies though. I did enjoy the film Any Given Sunday.
In that movie as with Soccer the strategy side was shown.

Guess it's just those this side of the pond who enjoyed that one.
My version - stop calling one or other of them "rugby". I enjoy (watching) both games but the League version - it is harder and harder to see the point at which they diverged - so stop calling them the same game!
Like the MLB one of only 7 pitches per batter per inning, but then the cat-and-mouse game of tiring out the starting pitcher as soon as possible no longer becomes a strategy, doesn't it? And that is as much fun as the HRs and base-stealing in my book.
Sorry, this is supposed to be a thread to suggest a rule-change:
Soccer: do away with the penalty shoot-out to decide a game and instead decide the game on the number of corners awarded. That would make it more representative of how attacking the teams were during the game.

Actually, if you simply move the question mark ahead two words, the sentence will be properly structured and you'll have your answer...
If the center red line is ignored .. eliminating the 2-line-pass . . Why is it still needed? For Icing.

| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/6/2008 12:55:32 AM | Frankly, I think when they changed the off sides rule it really hurt soccer. It brought down scoring so much it's almost unbearable to watch. Oh boy ! Another game decided by penalty kicks, what fun. | |
|
| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/6/2008 5:05:57 AM | | I'd bring no-touch icing into the NHL. The only thing touch icing usually does is result in a greater potential for injury. | |

I would say, shorten it a little or at least reduce the amount of time it takes to deliver a pitch to the mound. NO checking the baserunners at all.
Basketball
I don't mind the shotclock if there is no maximum number of points otherwise a team could never shoot the ball, but definitely get rid of all the timeouts..way too many!
Football
At least for NFL should only have 3 downs or at least one of the 4 downs has to be a pass. I hate 3 rush plays to get 10 yards, as most RB's are good enough to get 3-4 yards per carry and it's not that hard to throw a 5 yard screen pass (Just ask Brady)
Hockey
Hmm..they already changed a lot...no touch icing would still be one I would change and the schedule is absolute crap. Gotta be able to play everyone at least one a season.

| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/6/2008 10:04:08 PM | Figure Skating: The underwear should be changed to G-strings. (Gotta start somewhere) I'll bet money this one takes off.
Synchronized Swimming: Crotchless bathing suits would spark some endorsements somehow.
Women's Soccer: Consult Brandie Chastain for ways to improve the sport.
Men's Soccer: Since David Beckham is a pu$$ then make his wife give lap dances to the people who paid money to see him.
Men's Gymnastics: You should have to brawl after you get done with every apparatus. Go USA!!!
Curling: They should have to shove both brooms up the pushers a$$ before they brush the ice. That should put an end to that sport.
Breast Stroke: Why are there no breasts being shown during this race? No brainer.
NBA: A flagrant foul means that you meant to foul; so when the losing team intentionally fouls during the last minute then isn't it fair to say that it was a flagrant foul. That should be shots and the ball from the sideline. The NBA should interpret their own rule and quit boring us with foul shots that last forever.
|
| Rule changes . . Improve a sport . . Posted: 1/6/2008 11:38:18 PM | Just have to elaborate on that NBA. I used to be a big NBA fan but the last couple minutes of the game are strategized by taking the poor free throw shooters out and putting your best shooters in and then calling timeout after the shots are taken then putting your rebounders in and then calling a timeout and then fouling the guy to stop the clock and then you get my point that there is tooooo much coaching and not enough playing in the final period. The owners are so quick to fire coaches; that the coaches feel like they have to win the game. It's up to the players to use their time wisely.
That's why I've always liked Phil Jackson. He sits down, leaves his players alone and allows them figure out how the game will end.

really were you drunk whilst thinking about it? what do corners kicks have to do? do you really think that corners kicks might decide a match? if you watched matches, you would see that most of corner kicks do not end up with goal. so it would take centuries to decide a match only with corner kicks.
or perhaps what you mean is the team which got more corners kicks is the winner. that is what you mean? if so, it would not be fair, you know, if you get more corner kicks it means you attack more, but it means you are not able to score as well, whereas the rival is best at defending.
so who should win the game? the best at attacking or the best at defending?

Maybe I could answer that. See in this country when something is a hot commodity it cost way to much above any logical price. No sport (unless someone corrects me) that is watched more then the Superbowl world wide. There is no other sport on a weekly basis that keeps millions at home or in bars or actually at the game. Maybe even a sport that may contribute to the break up many marriages as well
Only my opinion and I think many would agree that the NFL is the creme de la creme of the sport world. Oh and I am sure there are many fans in baseball, hockey, basketball, soccer, tennis, rugby, polo, boxing, wrestling, UFC, Nascar, horse races, did I leave any out? I am sure I did. That also enjoy NFL football
Superbowl Sunday is the most watched game in the world. I know money doesn't necessarily mean the best. But it is the best. And most costly by far. Just add up every players salary. All the parties on Superbowl Sunday. All the food consumed. Every beer and sausage roll. Every person that is paid for in these 3 to 4 hours. Every bet on that game around the world including every home pool which people buy boxes. You can not imagine how much money changes hands on that one day. A hundred Billion dollars would not be far off. Why? Because it is the most wanted and watched sport in the world! That is why the players get so much money to play 16 games in one season. Because we will pay for it.
I love Football! And so many do also. Look in the stands when you watch the games. We paint our faces. We ware the team colors and expensive Jerseys. We come to think certain players are Gods it seems. Some ware no shirts when it freezing out. But I have to say we are civil with each other at these games. We go home full filled and back to our ritual lives and go back to work. There is a sickness also when the season is over. So many know of this. And need help. After the Pro-bowl its called Blue Monday. Many deaths have occurred on this day. Some just can not handle that the season over.
Without the NFL what would life be like? ........................ BORING
