Just be glad you didn't do what our next door neighbour did which was drive through the back wall of her garage into the garden with her leg half out of the car door. It was a 2 fire engine (to stabilize the garage etc) 1 paramedic and 1 ambulance job. Sadly it took her about a year to get her leg back to normal. All is OK again now (but her husband puts the car in the garage).

I replaced an insulated garage door last year for right around $500. Lowes and Home Depot sells them all day long. They probably have installers too. A garage door company will be a little more, but you'll probably get a better product. It shouldn't cost any more than $1000 for a good quality door installed.

$4000 - $8000???? I had a two car detached garage built 2 years ago for $8000 which included the doors.

Someone said several grand. There is a much cheaper alternative. It is called super glue and duct tape. A million pieces you say? Have fun!

This is just a hilarious thread. I can't say much. I backed into my own car with my previous motorcycle. Yes, I felt stupid. I was moving myself backwards and turning, and was not looking behind me well because it's hard to do and keep the balance at 1 mph (glanced at mirrors once and then just pushed off with feet), and I thought my driveway was empty, until I heard and felt the clunk and thought, "Oh, right...I put the car there, didn't I?"

I think the lesson here should be that lipstick really isn't all that necessary.

What a strange evening....as I was typing this my cat goofed up her run around the house and just whacked her head into my office door. ....Yeah, ok, it's a female cat, but I stopped allowing the cat to have lipstick with her advanced years.

Ah, Sam I Am,
You are why women avoid some men. Sub group: chauvinism. "Me carry club. Me fix door, then beat woman, grunt". Don't you know people can read what you write in the forums? So, are you on this site for dating or amusement? Must be for fun or you wouldn't have posted that.
I think a lot of people have had "dumb driving mistakes", but hopefully we all learn from them. I will never try to leave the garage with the hatch up ever again. If it's icy the garbage will just wait until walking is safe the next week.

I had my garage door replaced right before Christmas. He said it was not the most expensive
but it was definitely not the cheapest insulated door. It cost me $1,075.00 installed.

I started the car, put it in Drive...

If you put the car in Drive...

...I roared backward THROUGH the garage door.

...then how did you go backwards through the door?

Its in a million pieces now, and I don't have the first clue as to who to call or what these things cost. Guys???

I'd probably suggest to look through the rubble, and find the company placard that is usually stuck on the door to identify who built it; a stamped, small piece of metal. If you don't care about getting the exact same one, look in the "www.yellowpages.com".

Depending on what style you have, it could cost hundreds to over a grand or so, but I could be wrong. I have never personally had to replace a garage door before, as they usually last longer then we do lol.

Cheers!

Can't you just superglue and duck tape it back together?....stick some no-nails on it, it'll be fine!!!

Rule of thumb....always OPEN then garage door BEFORE pressing down on the gas!!!!

.

Farding in the car, eh?

What is most interesting to me is why someone would start a vehicle in a garage while the door is down. Depending on the size of the garage, that can quickly become dangerous to one’s health. Besides the fact that it can also get clothing and upholstery smelling like exhaust.

go to hardware store (i.e. home depot) ask there. Take measurements of the existing door. \And the opening.
Best of luck.

I'm here for my own amusement...maybe find someone amusing to amuse me.

O/P -not a good idea to call your insurance company every time a small tragedy happans -they will raise your rates or even worse cancel your homeowners policy. they will also add your name to an unofficial "black book" which they share with other insurance companies, makes it hard to get cheap homeowners insurance again. you should have gotten an estimate first and see if it would be easier to pay it out of pocket and pretend it never happaned.
