The other helpful 'trick' is to stab the narrow end of the can a couple of times, and puncture the can, this will make the beef come out so much easier, do this with a short bladed knife though.

Shape yes perfect for stacking the stockpile of tins on top of each other Try doing that with the same size round ones and seeing how long they stay stacked ;).
The key omg how many times have i a: found that no key exists or b: halfway round it goes off in its own direction or snaps the "ripcord" part .
Stick in fridge as stated works especially if trying to slice it as well.
Ring Pulls No
Can opener yes

Yer could put it in a round tin or a square tin but there is a certain poetry in the fitting together of them in a multiplicity as they are that contributes to keeping the night shift awake at the local supermarko...

Easy way to get the meat out.Or should i say safer?
Open the bottom with the key as normal.
Run a can opener, one of the kind that slices through the SIDE of the can is better, around the small end of the can untill its cut off.
Push the meat out of the can.
SORTED..

Yeah ok so i may be a smartbutt..
Shame my head aint

Those tins should come with a hazzard warning on them!!!
My sausage fingers still bare all the scars from opening them.
But its not just the corned beef tins ohhhhh noooo, the old oak ham tins have those key things aswell why oh why oh why?

The key method is perfectly safe, and if it weren't, you can be assured that some idiot at HSE would have banned it by now.

I must admit, I enjoy using it (the key, not the idiot) and it is preferable to the hand-held tin opener I have.

It's hard to beat corned beef hash in the winter.

The tins are not safe at all.
They key removes a section of the tin leaving razor sharp edges on both of the sides left containing the "meat". Easy to cut yourself.

Not that i have ever done that, i wouldnt eat Corned Beef if you paid me. Yuk. Looks like mashed monkey and is full of lumps of lardy bits.. no ta

I'd be interested to learn of a method of opening a tin which didn't leave an edge of metal upon which the average idiot could cut themselves.

However, when the key is in operation, the two open edges are facing themselves and have corned beef against them - it is nearly impossible to cut oneself on those edges whilst opening the tin.

only by doing this you run the risk of adding small shards of metal to the meat and also when you come to slice it up it falls apart where you stabbed it :(

works fine for me and not drawn blood for years

tend to keep the tins in the fridge and open as and when, often put a fork to pull it out and trim the excess and solid fat off the sides :)

decent corned beef does not have the lumpy bits in, it is more the cheaper end of the market that has it

I noticed my corn beef has tab ring things on the top like other cans and my god they are a pain in the proverbial!

Cos you remved the lid and like with all tins opening ni this fashion with the pull ring, a litle lip is left all round the top making it the devils own job to get the corn beef out in one lump like the old tins let you.

I have never cut myself on the old style corn beef tins, I used to approach them something akin to the care you show disarming a bomb, but at least it was easy to get the meat out. I managed to cut myself twice on the new type tin...

theres nothing to stop you using a tin opener on any tin of corned dog.
just becouse it has a ring tab or the old side/key it doesnt mean that you have to use either!
