. . . or maybe like calling being a good soldier a prep school for being a contract killer.

I watched this TV show "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" with Billie Piper. She plays the part of a high class prostitute. She's hot. She can prep me anytime.

When she makes all that money, and doesn't have to wash his dirty socks, and cook all thoses meals, clean his house, and be at his beck and call and serve him his beer in front of the TV???? DUD she would be stupid....Knowbody pays a wife a thousand dollars just for a good time .

Uh, OK….

I need to start from scratch here. The poster said:

“As a matter of general interest . . .I have long heard that ex-prostitutes make excellent spouses. “ ....Then he went on to give us all the reasons he doesn’t care for prostitutes.

Here’s my point: you totally skipped mentioning on what basis THEY have decided that ex-prostitutes make excellent spouses. I don’t see how your opinion is relevant to the statement, unless we actually KNOW what the original statement was. Surely they didn’t just say they make great spouses and say "by the way pass the salt please"...

…..So please, enlighten us as to WHY people have said they make the best spouses, as opposed to your reason why they do not, so we can actually chime in...

Otherwise I agree that this is the most ridiculous post so far in 2008! LOL

I perceive them as:
• Self-centered and self-absorbed,
• Drug-dependant (sometimes alcohol-dependant),
• Immoral,
• Manipulative, and
• Often afflicted with significant emotional or mental disorders.

And that differs from the average human being how, exactly?

ScorpioMover,
you wrote:

So IMHO, wouldn't that be more like calling the army a prep school for being a good contract-killer?

The whole point of the analogy is "soldiering isn't a sin and neither is marriage". The other two are capital crimes.

It sad how some people talk about prostitutes as if they are some kind of animals. You forget that these are living, breathing human beings.

So is the contract killer that just got through offing your dear old dad so he could upgrade his cadillac.

As opposed to the soldier that just offed your dear old dad so his government could have more territory?

I don't see the difference, personally.

I don't imagine you would, either... if you lived somewhere where a soldier sticking a slug in your ass was even a remote possibility.

But it's all down to how you perceive things.

You can have a prostitute, and think of her as a faceless animal.
Even though a lot of the principles are the same... an exchange of one commodity or feeling for another...
You cannot have a wife, and think of her as a faceless animal.

That, to me, is the real difference.

Of course, it never occurs to most of us that we, personally, are regarded as a faceless animal to 99.9999999% of the human population as well. Just the same as we regard anybody we've never met.

To that 99.9999999% of the population, neither you or I are any different than that prostitute.

Indigo Rose:

For a woman who lists "cow tipper" as her profession, y'all sure gave a lot of thought to the prostitution question. So I've got some questions, see?

1. How much do you tip a cow? Is it 15%, or does it depend on the service?
2. Not *all* women give up sex when they get a ring. One kept it up until second child, and the other cut me off when I didn't turn over my entire unemployment check, in addition to the 70K that I never saw. It averages out.
3. While some women rent themselves to feed their kids, better than half are supporting a drug habit, their own, their pimps, or both.
Dang! The last two weren't questions! Ah, well. Final observation: the ones that give good service tend to be under 18 or over 35 - not that I associate with underage, but they aren't always jaded yet, and the elders need repeat business, and also often enjoy their profession.

Maybe in Asia or the Phillipenes where that is acceptable (and even condoned by parents who stick their little girls in 'finishing schools' teaching them how to be subservient wifes) ... NOT on this side of the world.

I have know MANY hookers and one thing stands in common, by the time they get to a man that they would trust enough to spend the rest of their lives with, they have so much emotional damage, no one would want it ... but can you blame them when they get to see the lower crust of manhood? Not on this side of the Earth ...

no? my ex wife has a face i just cant stand to see it any more....if i paid by the piece for the sex i got after we were married she would qualify for a very high price hooker..and in the end i wasent her only customer by a long shot ... maybe not faceless but definately an animal

I couldn't date, let alone marry, anyone who was or is a prostitute. Too much risk - no thank you.

Ummmm...not sure where you are getting your information but:

1) Women in Asia (or even this country) being subservient is not brought about by "finishing schools" (I have been both stationed in the Philippines and traveled there for business and I've never heard of any such schools)but by cultural traditions.
Prostitution exists outside of those traditions and is brought about largely by the abject poverty that exist in those countries.

2) The Philippines are , in fact, located IN Asia.

3) There are many cultures on "this side of the world" where women take a subservient role to men. This is especially noticeable in Latin America and the Caribbean, although there are examples in the Amish/Mennonite,fundamentalist Christian and various other religious and cultural societies in the US.

I may not agree w/ this...but I know that criticizing the cultural views of others does little to promote harmony and exposes my cultural views to criticism.

You might want to check your facts in the future before posting.

i know several ex-prostitutes who are now off drugs/alcohol for many years and leading clean and sober lives today with significant others. i know another who is putting herself through college by "massaging people", still a sex trade profession in that she is not licensed and does cross the line with what she does. this young woman has primarily high level clients at around $200 to $300 per session, so it' s hard to get her to consider a minimum wage job. most of her clients talk and tell her all their problems as she is a kind and friendly person. i've heard this before that prositutes are like therapists (just like bar tenders) and guess that is where the "good wife material" comes from as opposed to their sexual histories. this young woman who i know is a survivor and has had a terrible life. she was used sexually as a child, and i suppose this gives her both control and money today. she has one boyfriend for several years with a similar story. but she is realizing that her job is getting in the way of closeness.

very slowly, they both evolve. their actions are conclusions from their childhood experiences. once they get past their traumas, both of them, who i hope will remain together are wonderful people and will do well. she would make a good wife in about ten years, meaning that by then she will be good to herself and get past all the retraining that her brain needs. she is intellectually aware and is working on it. she is the only active sex trade person i know and it causes me pain. for her. why married, professional men seek her out, is beyond me. i suppose her good spirit. but why aren't they in therapy as well?

prostitution is perceived in a simplified context from my perspective. There are prostitues who just have sex with anyone who pays them, there are also those who do that on one on one bases. Otherwise they would have had sex with that man probably even if he didn't pay. There are also some type of "respected" ladies who are considered to be far away from prostitues but from my perspective are even worse. 80% of the women I dated in last year were like that. You take them nice places, spend money on them , buy nice gifts, they will get physical. Otherwise, they will just kick you out. Also, there are lots of women who just marry someone for their money. Well, I think the later "cases" are much worse, since even though these called "respected" ladies sell themselves shamelessly and waste their lives and cuase problems to those men who are decent, they do that with a huge degree of hypocracy. On the other hand the real prostitute does not have hypocracy. Who is more immoral a lady that screws, manipulates men, try to gets their money by that, by using her physical closeness to them, or the prostitute who just is having sex for money only with men that she likes, and she would have had sex with him even if he didn't pay? Of course the later is much more moral, honest and strightforward, and yes these types of women can make much better serious partners than the ones who are just money hungry and men hungry.

IT'S NOT WHAT ONE DOES
BUT HOW SHE DOES
PAST DOESN'T MATTER AT ALL
BUT THE PERSON

Moses claimed a newlywed woman found not to be a maid (proved by a cloth of virginity from her parents) had "played the whore", so to all those of you who try to turn the question into rocket science, don't tell me let me guess: you wouldn't have told moses "well in my opinion it'll be too crowded for several million people to gather at the base of mount sinai to hear a voice straight out of heaven communicating with us, and you can shove your comment about me not approaching my wife for 2 days up your ass". Nooooo you would have just stayed celibate both days and showed up at the mountain wouldn't you?
