Why would you lie about your age?

Haaaaaa! That goes along with wondering why in the world someone would put a picture up of the way they look 10 or 20 yrs earlier. I honestly don't think it is meant to hide anything, I just really believe they do it because they may still feel 30 instead of 40 or maybe they are as active as a 45 yr old rather than 55 yr old so they want to show us how they are best represented.

I had set up a lunch with an attractive mid 40's young lady, her picture showed her to be slim and trim, a very attractive, athletic, brunette. Well when I walked in the restaurant, I was greeted by a heavy set, late 40's blonde that hugged me and told me she was glad we were getting to have lunch.

Now I was in shock, not that she was blonde, looked older and was not athletic,, but what I was shocked about was she must have felt she looked like her description and her picture. The picture had to have been 10 or 20 yrs old.. We had lunch and said out good buys, I stepped outside and I ran like hell screaming like a girl (just kidding about the screaming thing and I really don’t run like a girl)

What bothered me was she did not know there was a difference. I guess in our minds we just look a certain age and a certain way and that is the way it is... it's crazy, such as life and the world of dating.. haaaaa best of luck

I get a wee bit of an ego boost every time I hear that I look great for my age. There is no way I would lie and then get that look that says hmmmm or even worse "really, I thought you were older" .... makes more sense to me to lie the other way if you are going to do it at all.

I totally agree! I'd rather tell my true age and get the "wow, really?" myself.

I think he probably did he because he was aware of how people tend to round up when they look at numbers.

Fifty-three is a little over 50, maybe closer to fifty-five, but it certainly doesn't have the same ring to it as close to sixty does for those who are concerned about age.

And even though 57 is still closer to fifty-five than to sixty, it's not when a person is looking at an entire decade at once.

Lawyers are used to putting these little distinctive spins on things. That's how they win over a jury.

I also met a guy on this site who stated he was 39 when I asked him about his age he made out I was after a toyboy. When we first met I can remember thinking this guy who said he was honest must have had a very hard life. When questioned about his age he admitted he was actually 49 and tried to pass it off saying he didnt know how to correct it on his profile. Regardless to say I would never have seen him again, first impression was he was a liar. Second impression was he was a dirty old man, who wouldnt meet a young girl if he told the truth, I felt he was sleazy. It would have been one of the worst dates I have ever been on, in fact there was no chemistry between us at all, and he made no secret of this, he couldnt even look at me. When he dropped me home that night I felt terrible, I hadnt had a good night. This was the first date I had been on in about 5 years and I am sure it will be the last for another 5 years. It is guys like this that put woman off ever even thinking about dating and the games that go with it.

Why wouldn't you lie about it? Do you honestly fill in your real address, age, phone number, social security number and any other data websites want in order to use their services? Identity theft preventative measures alone mean I'm lying most of the time about my personal information when I use the internet.
Also, if I had met someone face to face he would at least have to engage me in conversation in order to inquire after my age, which, like asking how much money you earn, isn't polite to do anyway. When asked my age, I refuse to answer, and where refusing to answer is not an option on an internet form, I'll very deliberately choose misrepresentation.
I would also say that for personally descriptive information, like the kind you might give if you struck up a conversation with someone you just met, there is no cause for dishonesty.

I can not recall ever being asked for my social security number on a web site. I buy and sell online and know that they ask if they may contact you by phone and I do put in my number, but check no for that form of contact. You can sign up for them to store your information, but you don't have to. I am not sure what type of thing you would complete on line that would require your dob and ss#. But a dating site is not a site asking you for your given name and they don't display your exact dob, they show your age. I don't see a security problem with that.
I have dated men from 26 - 58 and I list my correct age. I still feel honesty is the best policy. If you can't tell the truth about the little things in the begining, I don't get it. I don't get why someone you may date you would have a problem telling your correct age to.
I don't have a man meet me at my house for a first date. I don't give him my address. I don't think that that is something he needs to know until I know him. angel not all men are liars, but if you met this man somewhere you could have excused yourself. Don't let him be your example for all men. Not all men are liars, not all women are liars.

It's amazing how many do lie about their age, height, etc.

Ohhhhh.... wait. I take that back. This is the internet. Not 'amazing'...but, sadly the norm.

Ah well, those who tell the truth and nothing but the truth... think of yourselves as unique. and, ya never have to worry about the lie coming back to bite ya in the butt.

I am not sure why people do that but being on the receiving end, it turned me off and basically, I just did not believe quite believe everything else he disclosed about his life.

He stated he was 47 years old... It turns out he is 53. He said he was "single". Well, he is still very much married. He considers himself singe because he is in the process of being legally divorced... ... and so on, and so on....

Odd though... he was adament that I should not be "grossly" overweight... I did put a few extra pounds on my profile because I want to attract men that are not into just the "sex" part and trying to find a human barbie doll to play with...

Anyway.... He was suprised on how "not fat" I was... blah blah blah...

Anyway...

Huge turn off... As I got to know him, the respect meter kept going down and down and down...

I suppose, a nice man but not the one for me... I gently took the fish off my hook and sent him back in the fish pond...

Anyway... such is life...

Oh yes, we know about a certain man and his certain thread and his definate lies which include his lie about his age, looks, pictures, athletic abilities, and so much more...amazing that someone like that would not delete his fake profile and come clean with a truthful one. Glad to see Jester, a very honest man on here who also knows the truth.

Why even be have a profile on here knowing the inevitable, that you'd most likely want to meet that person? You're apparently here for a reason. Cut the bullshit and be honest.

Why are you even here? You can change a lot of things about yourself (eye color w/contacts, hair color w/a dye) once you've "established" a relationship and move on to the meeting each other.

But, you cannot change your height or weight (unless you do that drastically before your meeting - weight that is) and age.

Oh yeah, that's too hard for some, I forgot. Ugh.

It's not a lie, it's just marketing!

People go out with smokers that they are attracted too, even though
they claim to not want a smoker!

Same with age.

Some women will go out with a guy, they are attracted to that is older
then what their Egos feel comfortable with!
