| Might be a whoops. Posted: 7/31/2008 11:39:13 AM | | I was rather distracted when I created an account here, so I mistakenly put my birth year as '85 instead of '84. I forget to tell people about the error simply because it slips my mind...it takes up a very inconspicuous section of my page. It could well just be an honest mistake with at least some people rather than a display of deception/insecurity. | |

islgurl: Actually, "Purxtc69" is absolutely correct. Waaaaay back when the internet (s...sic) came into everyday, everyone usage, one of the very first warnings I heard regarding use, was NEVER EVER indicate your true birth month/year. Ever. And years later? The capability of tracing your full info with just a first name and accurate birth month and year can dredge up more info on you than you'd believe! Oh please! That's one of the most ridiculous rationalizations for LYING I've seen in a long time. If you give out your first and LAST name along with month/year of birth, yeah, someone can track down lots of info about you. But not with a first name.
I'm Gary, born in September of 1954 - let me know what you track down on me, ok?

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 7/31/2008 11:57:23 AM | | The same reason why people lie about their height, weight, profession, martial status etc. People feel that if they were completely honest about these things, they would get less attention on these sites. I'm not endorsing this type of behavior. I'm uust explaining why some people do this. | |

Hilarious logic here ^^^. (I admire that Dallas has no problem with his TRUE age ~ maybe I should post that in 'what constitutes a real man?' thread ~ someone that isn't worried about posting his real age.)
~OT~ Lie about your age to me, it's done. I will find out, and I won't hestitate to stop communication immediately. That is absolutely moronic, no matter what the misguided logic behind the lie is.

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 7/31/2008 12:34:52 PM | ^^^^^^ That's right, VGE! I'm in my late forties - I'm forty-thirteen! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! | |

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 7/31/2008 1:16:05 PM | I don't... understand really - is there a huge difference between 54 and 57? It's not like a 30 year old pretending to be 18 or a 60 year old pretending to be 30...
*shrug* I once dated a girl who's online profile said she was 27 during the entire year we were together than encompassed her birthday. Meh - some folks like to fudge. She didn't see it as lying...
And really, if you're making a decision to date someone on the basis of whether or not they are 3 years different in age... *shrug*
I'm extraordinarily honest about everything - in my profile and in my postings - and it gets me absolutely nowhere as far as attracting women.
Maybe people would be more honest if it was a personality trait that was valued...

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 7/31/2008 8:25:57 PM | I hate age liars. Though I have to say the women on this site are some of the worst offenders. There are so many people claiming to be in their 30s that scream "HELLO, 44!!!" and I don't know who they think they're fooling with pictures clearly taken in the 80s, or shot through all kinds of cheesecloth or had the contrast jacked up to hide the fact they're a lot closer to 50 than 30.
I'm 35. I see no reason to lie. I like being 35 and I'll like again next year when I turn 35 again! I'm calling it 35 v.2

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 7/31/2008 11:34:14 PM | Actually the last guy I dated was really secretive about his last name. Just using his age, location and first name I was able to find out waaay too much information and more than I wanted to know. Turns out there's a reason he kept his last name hidden lol. Point being as long you know a couple of things about someone like their first name, birth month/year and location you actually can find out a lot online! | |

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 7/31/2008 11:44:21 PM | I agree with Sabinee. What if you met someone at a party? Would you immediately ask someone their age? I've never seen that happen. John and Cindy McCain apparently both lied about their ages when they met. He lied down, she lied up - they've done all right. You do your best to see if someone's compatible, meet them, and they you have a chance of telling. I've found that women lie about their age all the time. Just about all of them say "but I really look..."
Honey, you look like what you look like in person, and so do I. Long-term, what'll matter is what's inside.

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 8/12/2008 11:34:13 PM | Actually, I was stalked by someone from a dating web site, someone I never emailed. They had my first name, what my age was, but not the month, and a really rough idea of when my marriage ended. With that they went online and quickly searched the divorce filings for the city. From there they had my legal middle name, last name and address and that I had two minor children. It took mere minutes to find my home phone number and cell number. Then the porno phone calls started.
Two weeks later the dog in my picture alerted neighbors who contacted the police when he was trying to break in. He wasn't caught on my property, but from the phone calls the police suspected he involved in NINE other assaults on women; they had enough to bring him in. He was who they were looking for.
Since then I follow all the guidelines the police gave me. If a man can't understand why I don't use my real name and age, and a few other minor details I change, then that's his problem. I will not only protect myself, but also my children.
Make no mistake, the danger is real, especially on free and low cost sites. Whenever I do my first meet and great, it's always somewhere public, and one of my friends is always planted to make sure everything stays ok and I'm not followed. I don't meet without backup until I've verified who they really are, and yes I do ask to see their driver's license. More than once the name and address I had were not that of the individual standing in front of me. If we meet at a bar, I arrive early and ask the bartender to check the id. They are ALWAYS happy to assist and usually they have a few stories of their own that might make you a bit more careful.

I met a man (Lawyer)...He said it is vanity and the fact that he wants to attract a younger women. What he in fact did, was not allow me to make a decision based on true facts. In his profile he states very clearly he is honest.
Perhaps he was really 61. I may have met him, too, but I don't "know" him--unsettling dishonesty, spoken with such authority. I wonder how a jury could make a decision based on his facts.

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 8/13/2008 5:27:17 AM | | People men and women seem to lie about everything and anything...a lot of older men seem to think that somehow they deserve to date a much younger woman...like 1/2 their age...shorter guys always think they are going to grow overnite or something before you meet...and women lie too or just don't tell the whole truth...just a couple weeks ago I was chatting with a guy, he was all depressed...he found a chick who is 40 years old lives in syracuse, ny....they hit it off on the phone...after talking on the tele for 1 1/2 weeks every night, they meet and she is 5 months pregnant with someones baby....and by the way what does a few mean?...I grew up in the country 2-3 was a FEW...now it seems like a FEW extra pounds is more like 50+ and up!!!I have been on here and off here, and I have seen and heard more liars than people that tell the truth..it is sick - society..honesty is the best policy...everyone has the right to choose and have criteria...if someone lies to me right off the bat screw that...I am running... | |

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 10/3/2008 6:21:15 PM | I wouldn't lie about my age in years because it is dishonest.
I ran across this just today...
I am a christian and attend church on a weekly basis. With that being said, to be honest, I am older than the age listed, I usually date younger than myself so that is the reason I put a younger age initially. I don't see such a disclaimer as absolving the lie. After all, some or many who find this profile with a search that includes age will have found it because of the lie.

| Why would you lie about your age? Posted: 10/3/2008 6:29:07 PM | | I would never lie about my about my age. The other person would probably find out my real age at some point any way. If they are that hung up on my age they are probably not someone I want to date anyway. | |
