| pot heads mess with kitty Posted: 1/18/2008 6:49:43 AM | In from CNN http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/18/tiger.attack.ap/index.html
"As a result of this investigation, (police believe) that the tiger may have been taunted/agitated by its eventual victims," according to Inspector Valerie Matthews, who prepared the affidavit. Police believe that "this factor contributed to the tiger escaping from its enclosure and attacking its victims," she said.
"You make kitty mad, growl!"
Police found a partial shoe print that matched Paul Dhaliwal's on top of the railing, Matthews said in the documents the evidence
The affidavit also cites multiple reports of a group of young men taunting animals at the zoo, the Chronicle reported. more evidence
Toxicology results for Dhaliwal showed that his blood alcohol level was 0.16 -- twice the legal limit for driving, according to the affidavit. His 24-year-old brother Kulbir Dhaliwal and Sousa also had alcohol in their blood but within the legal limit, Matthews wrote. booze in the system
All three also had marijuana in their systems, Matthews said. Kulbir Dhaliwal told police that the three had smoked pot and each had "a couple shots of vodka" before leaving San Jose for the zoo on Christmas Day the affidavit said.
Police found a small amount of marijuana in Kulbir Dhaliwal's 2002 BMW, which the victims rode to the zoo, as well as a partially filled bottle of vodka, according to court documents. So the moral of the story is: Pot + Vodka x stupid teen boys = angry kitty
They got what they deserved, too bad a tiger had to die.

| pot heads mess with kitty Posted: 1/18/2008 8:08:02 AM | So when you get hit by a rare car because of a road rage driver( made angry by something you did) everyone should feel bad for the car, and blame you for it. After all, it was a rare car. You had it coming! I can see someone being angry at people who tease animals. I dont like it either. Now it comes out that the kids waved there arms and groweled at the tiger. How many thousands of people could this have been? Mabe zoos should dress guests up in cammo so the animals dont even know they are being watched. Good fences make good neighbors. We need better fences in our zoos. Its the zoos fault, and thats that. If my dog bit someone because they teased it, and he broke the leash, it would be my fault. DUH!!!!! | |

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 8:22:05 AM | This isn't the first time a tiger has killed someone. You've got to wonder at this. We're trying to save the tigers from extinction by putting some in zoos, and we shoot them, because we cannot keep them in?
Sounds like the zoo people need to start building better tiger enclosures.
P.S. Given the kid was taunting the tiger, it sounds like we need to start building better 17-year-old enclosures. "DO NOT FEED THE 17-YEAR-OLD"

There's still been no evidence presented that the kd that was KILLED was taunting the tiger. Is he responsible for the actions of his friends? I'm sure he didn't want to get his throat torn out on Xmas.

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 9:26:45 AM | | i believe ultimatley its the zoo's fault for not having a safe fence but at the same time i think it demonstrates mans disassociation from the natural world. who in thier right mind would taunt a tiger? theres too many people and not enough tigers. you want to taunt a tiger, go right ahead. what was this person's next stunt going to be? slit his wrists and jump in the shark tank, then we would have to kill the sharks. the real tragedy is the lose of the tiger, the tiger was only doing what hes supposed to | |

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 9:33:15 AM | There is evidence - the one kid admitted they were up there on the railing yelling at the tiger. They were all drunk - one twice the legal limit. They all had marijuana in their systems too.
I'd go to vigil if I lived out there - it's not right that this tiger had to die because of these 3 idiots!
She jumped out of the bushes and got him - well - she was doing what tigers do.
He didn't deserve it - obviously - but neither did she!

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 9:39:57 AM | SAN FRANCISCO (Jan. 18) - One of the three victims of San Francisco Zoo tiger attack was intoxicated and admitted to yelling and waving at the animal while standing atop the railing of the big cat enclosure, police said in court documents filed Thursday.
Theres the evidence out of an asses mouth....and yes I'm sorry for what happened to him and the 2 others!!!! But how many of us make funny gestures and noises while visiting a zoo or how about our tapping on aquarium glass to get an reaction! How would a shark react if the glass wasn't there....lesson... never pull a tigers tale ...lesson make humaine safer enclosures....shut down zoos that don't comply! A man and a tiger did not have to die! So a vigil for both is appropriate, and may...just may teach some lessons! May both RIP!!!

that has got to be the WORST analogy I've heard ever posted on any forum I've read. There were less fallacies then an episode of o'reillie's sit and spin zone.
Good fences make good neighbors. We need better fences in our zoos. Its the zoos fault, and thats that. If my dog bit someone because they teased it, and he broke the leash, it would be my fault. DUH!!!!! according to your analogy: 1. why would someone be on your side of the fence w/o permission? 2. why would they be on your property taunting your dog? 3. do you normally let people on your property to taunt your dog? and....
4. would you normally let a bunch of drunk, toked up pot-heads, onto your property in the first place?
In Texas we have the 1 bite policy. If a dog bites a person, it's the person's fault. If the dog bites a person a 2nd time, its the dog's fault. God bless Texas.....

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 10:30:33 AM | And the rest of the story is????....Don't forget your link next time so people can read it all..and where were you guys when it was reported over a week ago about 2 more "almost" escapes from that zoo??...Tatiana should never have been able to get out..zoos negligence..
Yes the brothers were wrong for their actions..so was the zoo..and while your calling Carlos an idiot remember he was a human..and he was not drunk by legal standards if you want to get technical..only Paul was..Carlos was in the legal limit..and yes he smoked Marijuana..so have I..and millions others lol
Oh yes..while singer & the Police Dept. are releasing their expected findings finally..just remember..kids,toddlers..etc..make noise & do foolish things at zoos..oh yes they do..kids can be brats..just hope the next time its not one of them.
Toked up idiots?!..lol..reaching on that one...most people that toke are not aggressive..ironic really lol..considering it was in California..did he have a medical card..that State makes it legal by State law & now he is condemned for toking..wow

Its not diffecult to go off in different dirctions going off topic but topic is the vigil and is it right or not....should have or should not have!
So I think those who feel for her should and those who don't shouldn't....thats whats going to happen anyway! But in the end I think responsibilty lies with the zoo in question!

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 12:00:44 PM | This is what society has become, Lets blame someone and something Blame the Kids for taunting the tiger Blame the Zoo for not having adequate protection Blame the Tiger for killing the kids Blame police because they couldn't tranquilize the cat Blame the Tiger for not having steak sauce for the kids blah blah blah and now people want to have a vigil for a tiger? ummm yea ok.
Doesnt matter who's fault it is, it was a accident waiting to happen, Tigers dont belong in the zoo but neither does most wild animals, endangered species or not why not set up sanctuaries for endangered species they dont belong in the zoo for people to stare at them.
All those people who weep for the tiger ( yes it was tragic) but how many weep for the children of war torn countries or children of genocide or the starving children in your country?

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 12:36:17 PM | Your welcome for the link....was my mistake!
I so agree with Mohogany.....on every point! But the fact is the tiger was in a zoo and the zoo was negligent...thats a fact so they need to be held responsible!
And I do think most weep for the tradgedies in the world....just because one feels sad for one thing doesn't mean they don't feel sad and empathtic for another! In fact I just started a thread on a very very sad thing that happened to a child today in Hawaii!

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 12:40:59 PM | The tiger finishes what they started and gets killed for it...nice. Security or not the tiger should've not been subjected to ANY provication. At least give it some dignity if it's going to be stuck in a zoo.
I don't know, with the barriers they had up, it almost seems surreal. Like there was some karma involved.
poor tiger | |

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/18/2008 8:37:54 PM | As I said in the other thread, Darwinism at it's finest. Shame the tiger didn't get to finish off the friend before he was killed for being a tiger.
This is what society has become, Lets blame someone and something Blame the Kids for taunting the tiger [...] blah blah blah Wrong. Most people shirk personal responsibility and want to put the blame where it DOESN'T belong. The blame DOES belong on the dumbass kids who got what they deserved.
|
| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/19/2008 6:54:49 AM | You missed my point Piscescoda, I wasn't assigning blame to anyone, I said it was a accident waiting to happen, and I said you could blame who ever..... it happened.
No animal belongs in a zoo, I truly believe there shouldn't be zoo's parading animals around for profit yikes...Those kids that were teasing the tiger well too bad so sad, what did they expect?
Im curious and this is off topic, but how in the hell did Noah keep the animals from eating each other when he took them on the ark? I can just see those Tigers licking there chops when the two deers appeared on the boat.

Actually I think zoos are a good idea a lot of endangered species are a lot safer there then in the wild.As for setting up sanctuaries nice idea however I believe in Kenya there is fighting going on in a wildlife sanctuary.Plus poaching in sanctuaries Illegal poaching and trade of endangered animals has been a huge issue in Africa for many years. Even today, despite great efforts by African wildlife authorities and environmental groups, the killing goes on. Earlier this year, over 1,200 tusks were discovered in Tanzania, a sign that the situation is still nowhere near where it should be. It is therefore understandable that conservation groups such as IFAW should be outraged at the recent proposals being put forward by governments for a limited legal trade in certain animal products. However, as is so often the case, the argument is a complicated one, and it’s difficult to judge what is best. The two most poignant cases concern the elephant and the rhino, both species that were severely threatened during the poaching era of the 1980s.

| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/19/2008 7:27:59 AM | Or take for example the gorillas.....
The largest of the great apes, the gorilla is among our most endangered species. Having endured decades of civil war in Central and East Africa, gorillas are confronted by the devastating consequences of increased habitat loss, poaching for the bush meat trade and the spread of dangerous diseases like Ebola. So while a sanctuary is a nice idea how exactly are you going to protect the animals?
|
| Vigil for...tiger at SF ZOO that killed a man.WTF? Posted: 1/19/2008 8:41:51 AM | Maybe the whole point is:
People should have enough common sense, compassion and respect for animals not to taunt or harass them no matter where they encounter them (i.e., whether they're caged, behind bars or roaming free in their own habitat). They are all God's creatures and were never put on this Earth to be amusement for us humans.
The tiger, unfortunately, did what it could do to survive what it perceived as a threat to it's life. They act on pure instinct and have no knowledge or understanding of our human created rules, regulations or codes of conduct. In other words, it didn't know the guys were drunk, that it should just shrug it shoulders, shake it's head and walk away. And because of that was forced into a situation that cost the tiger it's life through no fault of it's own.
What a sad state of affairs - whenever animals come in conflict with humans the animals always loose their homes, their freedom, their dignity and/or their lives. Find it very hard to believe that the Good Lord is pleased with how we take care of the world he made and gave to us.
