| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/8/2008 11:26:06 AM | Sorry to hear that Golden Prince. We’ll miss you but I’ll catch up with you at another event.
Still another 11 days to go!
Dorisa, CreativeMissKitty and myself have rides arranged. Music Lass has a full car load with the addition of a guest.
What about you Green Eyed Dreamer and HikNFool?? Have you arranged rides? I have checked with Napa 92 but haven’t heard back yet.
HikNFool I might need a hand splitting the group into two. Would you like to volunteer?
Note: Only use your on-line names please. The rules forbid disclosure of personal information (i.e. names, phone numbers, email addresses).

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/12/2008 2:47:41 PM | Hi, This outing sounds like great fun! Want to get timing info on bussing it or car pooling from Kits to Cypress and back. Any info would be helpful. Please advise.
Thanks in advance to all for any or all replies!

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/15/2008 7:48:06 AM | Saturday is approaching fast and there are still a few technical details to work out.
Note: Hodge3 still has not signed up. Would someone between the ages of 32 and 43 please contact him and request he sign up.
Perhaps those who can offer lifts from West Vancouver or elsewhere could post here and let us know. Those that are reliant on transit would also appreciate it. It would be a shame for someone to not participate due to lack of transportation. Rides are still needed for:
Green Eyed Dreamer (East Vancouver) HikNFool (looking for a ride from the Park Royal Bread Garden, 10:00am?) Soft Sell (Richmond) – has offered or is interested in car pooling CurlerAndMore (Kits)
I have sent a few emails out and if I haven’t contacted you AND you are still able to offer a ride please post here or contact me. Thanks for all the assistance with this.
I will continue to work on travel arrangements for the above and will confirm within the next couple of days. Thanks for any and all assistance.

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/15/2008 11:49:14 PM | | They actually charge people to walk around the snow on a mountain? Holy waste of money. Snowshoeing is great, don't get me wrong but walking on a trail that is so packed down from the machines and heavy use, defeats the purpose of actually using snowshoes. Save yourself some bucks, pick a destination and get off that beating path and go for it. | |

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/16/2008 11:13:36 AM | Thanks for your opinion Redheart. The majority of participants are new to the sport, so we will pay our money to enjoy the self guided scenic snowshoe trails that Cypress Mountain offers and enjoy getting outdoors and socializing.
Feel free to organize a snowshoeing event at the destination of your choice for members experienced at snowshoeing.

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/16/2008 2:38:48 PM | One of our participants was snow shoeing at Cypress last night and reports that the trails to Holyburn peak are hard-packed and manageable. It took him 2.5 hours to complete the entire trail to the top and back. I am estimating 3-1/2 to 4 hours for our outing. If some of you are finding yourselves tired after a couple of hours then we will split the groups and someone can take this group the shortest route back to the parking lot. There will be options and you are not obligated to stay with the group.
The 2 guys he was with were more conditioned to mountain climbing and waited on him a few occasions. The reward at Holyburn Peak and the effort was rewarded with stunning views of the city and surrounding mountain vistas. He found the return decent easy compared to the ascent.
In his opinion, anyone who has not done this sort of activity or is not regularly physically active, this outing could be a challenge.
Remember that the trails only allow you to travel in single file. Approaching snowshoers will likely move off the trail to allow the group to pass or expect us to move to the side but the trails can not accommodate more than one person in any direction.
For those of you concerned about your ability to keep up, you have no need to worry. There will be frequent stops to allow participants to catch up and when we reach cross points of trails or intersect with the cross-country skiing trails.
It would be a good idea to bring an extra pair of socks wrapped in a plastic bag (to keep them dry) in your vehicle or backpack. Also a pair of dry shoes and a warm sweater to replace a damp layer.
I hope the above helps.
Don't forget to bring muchies so that we can either stop on the trail or at the warming hut for lunch. You will work up an appetite!

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/16/2008 9:26:35 PM | Amazing there is such a large turnout for this event. We snowshoed up Black Mountain on Boxing Day and had some sun. Beautiful snow and glorious sunshine. Our route was up past the white dome, along the poles and up along the north flank north of the new ski runs up Black Mountain. Summer route was followed....
Everyone should have a great time. We did it in a round trip of close to 3 hours.

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/16/2008 11:25:49 PM | Hi Ultraviolet. Sure hope you are able to make it. Unfortunately, I don't own a vehicle so I can't offer a ride. Piah has space available in her car so please contact her directly and make the necessary arrangements.
HiknDan is looking for a ride from the Bread Garden at Park Royal and Green Eyed Dreamer still needs a ride from East Vancouver.
If anyone has room in their vehicles and can assist, please contact them as I am not having any luck finding out their status.
Trailfinder so nice of you to drop a line on this thread. You didn't mention how many people went snowshoeing up Black Mountain? I suspect your group were smaller, maintained a good pace and were not mostly beginners.

There was just two of us up Black Mountain, good pace up was set to keep the lungs fully worked out. The return was so much faster (downhill).
The slope is moderately steep, and near the top of the ski run (when you are on the right of it) there is a fork in the trail... The right one takes you to the top, and you get the best views. This right fork takes a northerly track along the mountain a little ways below the top. To view a report I made; every one can view by cut and pasting this link below into their computer (internet explorer window). I have added several of my photos.

| Snowshoeing, Cypress Mountain - Saturday, January 19, 2008 Posted: 1/18/2008 9:19:43 AM | Kitkatfriendly, RBG13 lives in Abby but after looking at both of your profiles you have different age and category restrictions and can't contact each other.
Your post is very last minute AND the chances of anybody checking this thread the day BEFORE an event is slim.
I tried to contact him and can't due to his restrictions.
My usual rant is about people who put on mail restrictions for gendre and age -- it is really frustrating for host/esses. Is it really necessary to be repetitive about the gendre when it is already listed in the top part of your profile? If people insist on specifying an age range then put it in your profile. Grrrrr!
