I'm on a diet at mo, last 2 stone in 2 months, bloody hard word though, dont mind the not eating food so much, its the drinking water on a night out, YES i miss the booze,,
but anyway, in 2 months i've gone from a size 16-18 down to a 14, feel fantastic and the energt levels are through the roof,, its the '' Lighterlife Diet'', bit pricey mind, but have a 2 hour seesion each week, where we have a weigh in and a conselling session,, i dont have a target weight, just when i feel comfotable,,,

That was interesting. I've put on about 3 stone in the last year due to knee ops (not the ops but sitting around in plaster casts afterwards) and giving up the fags. So first time I've considered going on a diet because if I don't find a lass I'll never be doing the volume of exercise I was before the ops!!

Don't fancy going to weekly weigh ins or having counselling, what would anyone recommend? I'm one of these pile it high and who gives a feck what's in it merchants but as said no longer able to exercise it off!

vvvvv Right well, back of me hand best watch out then, uuurrrggghhh all them hairs, best wax it. Ohh I like your pictures, send em over laughs.

The best way is to ignore fat, calorie counting, diets etc etc and eat everything you want but in smaller portions. Or if you eat something big leave it a good 4 or five hours before you eat again

Don't be governed by diets - your body knows what is best for you. Let yourself get hungry and then eat. Only eat when you are hungy. Listen to your body. If a certain food, or food combinations make you feel bloated avoid them.

I need to loose a half a stone ( around 4 kg) in 9 days time.. I have my own three day diet which I already mentioned.. I do 5 days on one off and then again 3 days on..

Should start doing some exercise I am thinking now :( but I hate gym and I get very bored there.... no way I am going to the gym

My problem is only around the stomach area but who is going to make me do the sit ups ????

Is there any hitler like person who would scare me out and make me do at least 100 sit ups a day.. in a week doing sit ups my stomach would be flat but ....... how do you make yourself do this ?????

And I have some rubber long leg pants which you are supposed to sleep in ... would probably try that :( :(

^^^^^

Get one of those big bouncy excercise balls instead, lay over it to do your stomach crunches, far more fun than sit ups!.It is also good for toning the thighs and bum

I may motivate myself to use mine now ive remembered ive got it

No this is more like a PVC sauna suite .. you are supposed to put on some anti cellulite cream and put the pants on and sleep in them and then it detoxifies your skin and causes it to sweat while you are sleeping and then your skin becomes really smooth and you loose few inches.. not sure why and how ...

arnt all diets just a fad anyway?

surely regular exercise and eating sensibly is the way to loose weight or become fitter.

in fact as your body becomes aware that you are eating less it will store fat as it thinks there is some kind of food shortage. now thats bloody clever.

vvvvvvvv maybe because they had less leisure time and life was generally a lot harder than it is today? and how do we know they didnt excercise?

cos they didnt have cars/taxis.. they walked
they didnt have hoovers.. they used brushes/eubanks
didnt have auto washers, had twin tubs or single tubs and mangles or spinners..
even remotes for the tv mean you dont have get up to turn off or over the tv...
they baked bread and home cooked meals.. etc etc...
all these labour saving devices and larger/super size portions.. and fast food.. high fat snacks etc.. mean we eat as much or more.. and excersise or move less....

Did Weight Watchers some years back and it worked ok til they changed the plan. The new one just didn,t seem to work for me.Over a year and a half ago i started doing Rosemary Conleys low fat GI diet and its worked brilliantly!I lost 2stone 7lbs and have kept the weight off for over a year.I find that if i eat anything to sweet now it makes me feel sick but i still have my chocolate and just limit it to once a week.I also exercise by dancing ,walking and using my power plate.

Sounds like hell on earth. I spent 50 quid on what i thought was a toning belt but it was actually a heated belt.I had to wrap myself in cellophane and gel ,put the belt on and leave it for 30mins.3hrs later i woke up to the smell of melting flesh,it's now gathering dust in a cupboard.

If I want to lose weight I just cut down on the calories and take more exercise.
I have tried the slimfast shakes before though and they worked. Some of these diets can work out rather expensive though.

I give up on diets....i can become obsessive when im on them and when im on them my weight is on my mind from i get up in the morning til i go to bed...its not healthy....fcuking torture actually....and i got sick of it.
I just try to eat healthily now, and i jog when i feel like it , i do have a pkt of crisps if i feel like it without the guilt of breaking the diet.

Which diets have you tried and what did/did not work for you?

I've tried lots over the years. I started becoming slightly overweight when I was 15, and have battled with my weight ever since. The only times that I have not had to worry about keeping control have been when I've been ill (I was just below six stones at one point!)

I've tried Weight Watchers
I've tried Slim Fast
I've tried Herbalife
I've tried fruit diets
I've tried going to the gym every other night.
I've tried low carb diets
I've tried no fat diets
I even tried fasting for days at a time.

You know what? The only thing that works for me, to lose weight and keep the weight off?
Eat less, and expend at least as many calories as I eat.

I eat (generally) a healthy, balanced, varied diet, and I make sure I get some exercise.
Simple, huh?

Which diets have you tried and what did/did not work for you?

I happened to catch an episode of 'Diet Doctors' on channel 5 one day in which they said that quite often we are allergic to foods that we crave (I'd already cut out bread, I dont like cakes & I'm not that fond of chocolate). At the time I had a 12-14 pint a week MILK habit & weighed 13 stones 10lbs (at my heaviest, I was 14 & half stones). I ditched the milk immediately & started to lose weight, replacing coffee with green tea. I then noticed that whenever I ate meat my digestive transit was impared causing constipation so I've more or less cut meat out too, although I do still eat it occasionally & in moderation.
My weight dropped to 10 stones 10lbs in 3 years. I've put on a stone recently (courtesy of staying with my folks for a while!) but am working to get back down to below 11 stones & weighed 11 stones 4lbs this morning.
I take supplements to ensure that I still receive the nutrients/minerals/vitamins that are now missing from my diet. I no longer suffer with dramatic mood swings (that I used to think were hormone related) & I'm a far happier person.

I've tried in the past...

Cambridge diet - Yuk
Slim fast - yawn
Exercise - toned up and dropped a dress size

and now the 'Eat right for your blood type' diet.

It tells you what is beneficial, neutral and not good for you. By eating as much of the beneficial as possible with neutral foods and just the odd 'avoidance' foods I lost a stone and a half in 3 months.

It's a great way to diet as you don't eat less and the food is yummy, but it's hard to keep to all of the time if you have a family as other people want to eat other things and you end up cooking lots of different things which can be expensive.

I would recommend it though and it is more a way of life than a diet.

I have tried weight watchers and slimming world, none really worked for me, i must admit i got bored. I have lost 3 1/2 stone in 2 months just by cutting out junk food, so gone from a 16 to a 10 so i am happy with that!

Many years ago my wife bought me the 'BBC Diet' book; at a guess that was in the late 80's / early 90's.

It was useless! I read it from cover to cover and didn't lose an ounce.

I have done the A-Z of diets , my sister is usually my fellow diet mate , we often laughed about one day our picture will be posted at various slimming clubs saying ' do not allow these women in'. The one that will be remembered is the cabbage diet , we lasted 1 day 6 hrs then went out for fish and chips ...

I share the belief that anything drastic usually doesn't have lasting effects as many have pointed already and many a times its the lifestyle we have and the psychology which gives us all these urges to eat junk whenever we have spare time. Busy life, stress, relationships etc are some reasons that have a dent on our psyche. Need to find something more gradual which brings peace b/w mind and body. Going to the gym is a good thing but since we exert a lot and after that if we are on a eating spree than it does little good. So something mild is what works better. I have noticed with my self that I feel more regulated and better when I do yoga and Pranayama (breathing exercises). It brings will power to fight the urges and the more you practise the better you get at restraining yourself. So hit the gym plus do something about the psyche as well. I am more inclined to believe that body and mind are part of the same system and work so much in conjunction and partly body does reflect some of the maladies of the mind. So doing just dieting is like treating it as two separate entities and we tend to strain the relationship b/w the two.
Sorry if someone already posted this.
