| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/11/2008 10:18:53 PM | | I recently got guitar hero for christmas, and it has definatly inspired me. I picked up on the game really really quick and ever since I started playing it I've been playing my alto sax and piano a lot more (I know totally seperate instruments), but the game has totally brough back something that I had lost and that was a complete joy for music. music is just awsome and this is by far the best game ever invented | |

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/15/2008 11:13:07 AM | | Obsessing over Guitar Hero 2 a few months back is part of what got me to buy a bass. Course, I havn't really been diligent about practicing, but hopefully that will change when I get a real amp instead of the loaner guitar amp I'm using now. I have a feeling it'll be like typing was for me when I was in middle school, I absolutely hated it and never thought my typing speed would ever improve till I realized I could type fast enough I ddnt hav 2 type lik htis. | |

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/15/2008 8:55:05 PM | I'm excited about a new game coming up called guitar rising. you plug your actual guitar in and it teaches you how to play it on your guitar, thus actually providing a long-lasting sense of accomplishment. It's ironic but most people who are skilled at guitar absolutely suck at Guitar hero. It's a rhythm game only, the skill involved has very little application with a real guitar, except maybe improving pinky strength :)
heres a trailer to guitar rising :O http://gizmodo.com/352800/guitar-rising-for-real-guitar-heroes

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/17/2008 11:30:59 PM | *wakes up due to being unable to sleep*
not inspired to play guitar or any other instrument . . . but it does make it a little easier for me to relate to non musicians who've actually played guitar hero and the like
second, what a GREAT idea for a video game (while I'm a guitar player, I also play video games, and know a good game when I see one. just don't ask me to play it, I'll try to use the controller guitar like a real guitar and suck miserably . . lol) it's inspired a friend of mine to consider buying a guitar and learn
and it does inspire me a little . . .mind you I have my own interesting take on guitar hero. if I happen to have my guitar with me while someone's playing the game, I'll play along with my real guitar when they're doing whatever they're doing

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/19/2008 3:53:07 AM | Anyone ever see Southparks take on guitar hero??? That is funny. But overall wicked idea for a game :) I never played it ,alas another addiction besides the real instrument itself to keep me awake all night is the LAST thing I need, and my fingers have bled and callused due to REAL strings but whatever fills your boots :) Play on.... | |

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/24/2008 1:24:23 PM | having started learning real guitar shortly before Playing guitar hero, i found that guitar hero actually helped me, ok it won't help you position your fingers on the frets as precisely or quickly. but it taught me a lot about rhythm and timing. and it's a blast to play with mates | |

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/24/2008 6:05:06 PM | Its a cool game for the kids, but as someone who plays guitar, I didn't much care for it. Before you go out and buy a $800 or $900 guitar, I would suggest you start off with a $200 Fender starter kit.
That game is no where near close to playing an actual guitar. The real thing isn't easy and you can't make a chord by hitting a button. It takes time, practice and commitment.

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/28/2008 9:02:49 PM | I think Guitar Hero is on of the best learning tools to ever hit the market. It allows beginner musicians to start working there fingers. I believe that ascetics are 50% of playing an instrument and can only be achieved through consistent practice. The other 50% comes from some kind of musical comprehension. My two favorite places to shop for theory books are second hand book stores or the book stores at colleges or university. When one studies the fundamentals of theory it may be the most confusing and grueling material but have faith that the contents will mentally digest over time and consistent studying and before long you will be nailing solos and crossing over through different key signatures. Actually this topic has made me so eccited I 'm gonna go get a case of beer and play my Gibson SG till I pass out. | |

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 2/29/2008 6:52:06 PM | | Ok anyone inpired by any of these games are retarded. The thing doesn't even resemble a guitar. Its a narrow piece of plastic with colored buttons. I'm sorry but only losers play this game | |

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 3/1/2008 10:18:59 AM | C'mon, I'm surprised no one mentioned the South Park spoof of Guitar Hero! The utter disdain of the kids to Kyle's dad playing a real guitar (Cartman then says "Real guitars are for old people"). A guitar hero player, Jarvis, doing a silent air guitar solo to adoration. The adjunct game to Guitar Hero, Heroine Hero. It was basically a rib on those who take the game too seriously and those who for whom the immediate gratification of the game takes the place of practice and accomplishment with a real one. As I see it.
(I have a couple of guitars, a Strat I don't use much and a Gibson 'The Paul' with a great sound, though my talent isn't the equal of my equipment. Meaning it would sound better in better hands.)

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 3/1/2008 12:06:21 PM | playing guitar for 16 years I tried Guitar Hero for the first time the other day. About 90% of the songs on that game I already knew how to play so I thought I was going to do good. WRONG !!!! My brain was so pre-programmed to the actual fingering of each song on a real guitar from playing these songs over the years that I simply couldn't do it, even on medium difficulty in the game. I was screwing up constantly and all my NON-musician buddies were kicking a$$ on it.
Funny how things work. | |

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 3/1/2008 11:34:22 PM | I think Guitar Hero will save rock n roll.
Since the end of Nirvana & Pearl Jam, rock music lost it's guitar. For much of the history of rock music, you could "air guitar" to your favourite song. Tell me, can you air guitar to the Foo Fighters? It doesn't hold the same "glory" as it once did...and I hope that Guitar Hero inspires a new wave of musicians that bring BACK the guitar into music. This game (and Rock Band) may very well save the music industry because it'll inspire the 14 year old kid of today to think "yeah man, I wanna play a kick ass axe".

| Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 3/4/2008 7:02:46 PM | The only instruments inspired to purchase and learn after playing these games for me are... and in no peticular order... | Anyone else INSPIRED by Guitar Hero/Rock Band? Posted: 3/5/2008 4:47:36 AM | Comparing real guitar to that toy, haha.
I've played real guitar for a very long time now, had a few people ask me to teach them after playing guitar hero. They gave up rather quickly, didn't even get to the finger bleeding point. I remember learning guitar, I wasn't very good until my dad died, then I would sit for entire nights, playing so much that my finger bleed enough to muck up the strings really bad. Went through a good 4 or 5 packs of strings each month during that time, then when they stopped bleeding they were sore, even as the callus built up, sore so very sore, I gave up on my PC for awhile because typing was painful.
Now I can usually play for an entire day and not get any pain in my fingers, though my wrist and arm is starting to bother me. But I can play just about anything I can hear, and have never taken a single lesson in my life.
If you want to learn real guitar, get a big bottle of motrin, some anti-infectant ointment, make sure you've had that shot for open wounds coming in contact with rusty metals (trust me you'll play rusty strings at least once or twice while learning), and don't give up. Guitar isn't difficult, it just takes awhile to train your fingers to be dexterous enough to bend like you need them to, and resist the grinding metal rings around the strings.
Have only had one neighbor threaten to call the cops, gave her my extra pair of studio headphones I had and the cables to hook them up to her TV and she never complained again.
Whatever you do about your interest for guitar, don't buy an expensive one to start out with, not many people realize just how easy it is to damage a guitar and it's electronics until you've owned one. Be a good idea to get a basic grasp of soldering and wire diagrams, you'll probably have to fix your own guitar unless you wanna pay a boatload for a music shop to do it for you.
