Have you all forgotten you are ALL IMMIGRANTS to NORTH AMERICA....just NOT 1st generation?
The root of the problem of original post is the daughter's behaviour...that didn't start overnight and was a progression that was not dealt with. RUNNING AWAY will not resolve the issue at hand....it just moves it to another state/area. | |

As for using immigrants as an example to impriove your life; I've only read the first few posts, but the idea of welfare is fairly insulting and absurd. Using immigrants as a model on how to improve one's life is actually great, but it's not a welfare model. It's a model that involves a collection of individuals making personal sacrifices in order to move the group forward... particularly the *most* (econimically) promising of the group, who, once succesful, reciprocates to the family.
It means you work the crap jobs, you cram 10 people into a one bedroom apartment, you put up with the snobbery of not having your own this, that or the other. And in the end, you and your team, ends up a step ahead of all of the snobs-out-for-themselves. Because you and yours know how to work as a team.
That's the immigrant model that will improve one's life. | |

I have a problem with Arieann's post. I am trying very hard to follow her line of logic. If she had not used the example of immigrants, I could have shown her more sympathy.
But after reading this and her profile and her numerous post on the racial thread...I can only give that sympathy to her daughter. | |

I am thinking seriously about using the example immigrants have provided.
You mean you're going to work three jobs at the same time, go to school, start your own business, save all your money, learn a new language and sacrifice short term satisfaction for long term gain in order to make your life better?
Bad idea. I don't think most Americans should try that. It would set a bad precedent. | |

Posted: 2/17/2008 12:26:57 PM | | Careful OP...some states don't work that way, believe me I was out of work for a while with a child and because I got my 200.00 a month child support I didnt get no welfare help...but the ones that come up from Mexico get welfare, housing, and schooling...oh yea I got medical for my son. | |

as I understood, you don't feel in your life.
question: is it goo idea to try to change that?
answer:YES.
question: quit the job going on welfare etc. plan is the best option?
answer: we cannot tell you, as we don't know your circumstances, too little info was provided.
