What does modern day marriage mean to you?

That is a hard question, and one that I am definately struggling to answer myself as I get older.
Is marriage fantasy? Is marriage a thing of the past? I think that marriage will never be what it was (whatever that is), and what I mean is that the meaning and reality of marriage is changing.
I think that marriage is about whatever the two people want it to be about, marriage should be absolutely a personal decision between the couple going through with the act. People should never marry out of a pressure to fit in or conform.
I do hope to marry one day, because call me old-fashioned, a hopeless romantic, or whatever, but I believe that it is possible to forge a lasting, healthy and loving relationship today. I think that the divorce rate of today should not discourage people from getting married, but it should act as a wake-up call to really know what relationships mean and take.

Referring to comments made by Pope Benedict XVI

"No law made by man can overturn that of the Creator without dramatically affecting society in its very foundation," said the pope, according to the I-Media news agency, which reports on Vatican affairs in French. The pope's remarks to a delegation attending a conference on "natural law" at the Pontifical Lateran University came as Portugal moves to liberalise abortion and Italy plans to grant legal status to unwed couples.

"Weakening the family is punishing society," he told the delegation. Natural law "has rules that supersede all human laws (and) does not allow for derogations by anyone."

Natural law has "concrete applications" such as protecting human life from conception to its natural end, and the institution of marriage between a man and a woman, Benedict said.

"Awareness of natural law is inscribed in our very being," he said. "The law inscribed in our nature is the true guarantee offered to everyone to be able to live freely and in dignity."

Human law does not impose necessity on a man in the forum of conscience.
Human law fails to check and balance the human will.
Romans XIII tells us: all human power is from God
