| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/5/2008 10:45:25 AM | mmmm that is a good point, I don't mention I am a fan of all things sci-fi on my profile, but it has too be said for me at least it is the puriest form of entertainment. I have loved all aspects of sci-fi since I was a kid, and yes I even had my time as a trekkie, although I have grown out of it....ever since Babylon 5 came out However as I grow older I find myself being drawn ever more into the darker side of science fiction. Having recently loved the new take on BSG and Heroes (which is darker than I thought it would be) as well as many more top shows being made now I no longer think science fiction is in the minority. I am a huge reader of science fiction, I am a huge watcher of science fiction, and I have had published one or two science fiction shorts, and at the moment working on an epic piece of science fiction myself, as well as a couple of sci-fi inspired movies and a new tv show that I am hoping to sell in the states (well it has interest from an agent at the moment, so keep my fingers crossed heh). People should be proud on loving science fiction as it can only really be appricated by someone with a creative mind, and having a creative and open mind will get you a lot further than being closed and withdrawn. However it is true that there is a certain stigmata attached to science fiction, and I think in this day and age it is crazy, I can almost be certain that everyone watches some sort of science fiction and doesn't even know it.....science fiction shows that don't seem to be percieved as such are shows like Lost...and the recent Flood which concludes tonight on ITV.... It is time that science fiction is realeased from it's stigmata and much more is made....we are beginning to get there, we finally have Doctor Who reborn with the spinoff Torchwood, and a Blakes 7 remake in the pipeline......all we need know is someone to buy Colony, and I'll be a very happy (and rich) man.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/5/2008 11:16:19 AM | Why here i am right here,
Books, none of that old doctor who pantsy crap, give me Isaac Asimov or Robert Heinlein any old day.
Films. Going way back to the beginning with Friz Langs` Metropolis with the luscious robot Maria, (brilliant) right up to Iron Man (pants), i try to see them all and be fair in my judgement.
t.v. I`m looking forward to the new Andromeda Strain, the original was class so it will be a hard act to follow but with Tony and Ridley Scott as exec producers it must have some redeeming factors.

(Gotta love facial implants) Crysis, Doom series, Bioshock, F.E.A.R, Warhammer-Dawn of war series (Are games allowed?) Liked some E.E Doc Smith books, was never really to into reading sci fi

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/5/2008 2:47:36 PM | I have to admit, I am a bit of a sci-fi lover, I have watched a LOT of sci-fi... but I think it comes with the type of work I do!
I dont think you can work in computing and not have at least a little bit of a geeky side! I like gadgets and sci-fi, its an unfortunate addiction as there aren't that many women that appreciate it!
But at least whilst I'm having spouts of singledom I can enjoy spending my spare time watching some new sci-fi programs, I wish Stargate Atlantis would restart, and Heroes!

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/5/2008 3:24:13 PM | I am looking forward to see what they do with the remake of Blakes 7. Personally, I want to see the return of the craven antihero Villa and a drop-dead-gorgeous villainess who would always teleport onto a hostile planet in a****ail dress. The colder, the better. | |

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/6/2008 3:42:37 AM | Been a sci-fi lover since the age of 9 when I was introduced to Lt Commander data & the rest of the crew of the Enterprise-D.
Since then my interests have expanded to include:
Books - Dune, Battlefield Earth, The Dark Tower series... Movies - way too many to mention TV Series - All the Treks (incl. Enterprise), Lexx, Red Dwarf...

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/6/2008 4:09:13 AM | Good Sci Fi is thin on the ground. There are a few books I've read and enjoyed, mostly by Ian Bainks (and yes, I know about the 'M' before you correct me)
I loved the old Sci Fi such as Heinlein and Asimov, but those books are dated now. Most of William Gibson's stuff is very good too.
Films, again, not much around now, but Blade Runner was an all time fave, not to be surpassed until the first Matrix film (though you can happily keep the last two) Dune (the mini series, not the silly film) was excellent.
Trekkies make me want to vomit. As do all but the original series. It's all just a little bit too earnest for me, and look at the smug ba'stards, any more 'perfect' and they'd be sainted. Give me the old 'We come in peace (shoot to kill)' any day
My ex worked for an import export firm once, the two entrepeneurs who owned the firm had her and a mate go to a convention with some of their products, and made them dress in old star trek uniforms, they both thought it was hilarious, all these spotty geeks with no conversational or social skills dribbling all over them!

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/6/2008 5:14:49 AM | | I can't honestly think of a time when i have not been into this in a big way apart from that shite "Lexx" | |
|
| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 5/6/2008 5:20:27 AM | I like the modern sci fi stuff, e.g. Firefly etc. Also does Heroes and Lost count as Sci Fi?
Anyway I reckon Blade Runner is the best film of all time

I have only just finished watching Sphere, with Sharron Stone and Justin Hoffman.. that was a bit creepy, think I'll leave a light on tonight...
Ooo I love Justin Hoffman, he was great in "Bootsie".
I used to be very into sci-fi especially Star Wars, read most of the Star Wars books as a teenager, most of which have some fantastic storylines. I don't watch/ read much sci-fi these days, but I think I should start again... sci-fi done well is fantastic. I've heard the new Battlestar Galactica series is good and would like to see that.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/20/2008 4:24:45 PM | How about a mention for the forgotten format - comics. Love 2000AD & Judge Dredd. Collected them from day one in early 70's & still do.
Plus Tank Girls just re-appeared!
Now I know I'll not get a date on POF.
