| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/21/2008 11:49:51 AM | Ok Ok i'll admit it i'm a big Sci-Fi fan> Stargate, Star Trek, Star Wars, Andromeda, Babylon 5, Firefly, Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, Torchwood... Also started reading some fantasy novels recently ala David Eddings etc And with this crushing admission i may as well give up on dating altogether!!
Whilst typing this, it reminded me of this from Red Dwarf!!!! PETE TRANTER'S SISTER: How long has it been since you made love to a woman? LISTER: I admit it's been a while. PETE TRANTER'S SISTER: It's been over three million years, Dave. LISTER: I prefer to count it in Ice Ages: then it's just four. And if you count it in _leap_ Ice Ages, it's hardly even one. PETE TRANTER'S SISTER: That's a long time, Dave, for a man of your drives. LISTER: that's a long time for a Welsh shepherd who's allergic to wool.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/21/2008 12:40:56 PM | ^^^^ David Eddings he is really cool loved the belgariad and the malloreon. Reckon you should try Robert Jordans 'Wheel of time' series, he's gone and died while writing the 12 book of the set.
Back OT: Been playing Star Wars galaxies for 4 years now. Watch at least one SW film a week, episode 3 is my fave atm. Played warhammer/warhammer 40k on tabletop before they were all computerized. Play them online now. Miss painting my armies though
Seen all the star treks including DS9 and voyager, rewatch value is not great but happy to do so if nowt else on. Really dislike Enterprise, reckon it's cos Sam Beckitt is in it and it seems like he's gonna jump into a new body at the end of every episode...
The appeal of Stargate..........lost on me it is.
Yup i'm a nerd | |

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/21/2008 7:28:56 PM | ep another sci-fi addict here and always have been. I have some shows in my collection like :
Doctor Who Torchwood Red Dwarf Heroes (My Current Favourite) Stargate SG1 (My Joint Favourite) Stargate Atlantis (My Second Favourite) Lost
Others I watch sometimes when on TV
Star Trek Enterprise Star Trek TNG Star Trek Voyager
and sometimes the crappy DS9
Others I used to watch way back when I was a kid , most look stupid now.
Knight Rider Airwolf Automan Blakes 7 Quantum Leap Star Trek the Original Series The Outer Limits The Twilight Zone Time Tunnel Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Thunderbirds Stingray Space 1999 The Tomorrow People Joe 90 Lost in Space Battle of the Planets V
I also love vampire movies as well as sci-fi movies. I guess I just always was fascinated by vampires. Used to watch all the very badly made hammer horror movies when I was younger and still love a good horror.
I hope this doesn't make me the biggest geek on the forum........
Regards

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/22/2008 6:18:48 PM | I want to be friends with allyou, at least for the amount of stuff to talk about. Have any of you you played the Star Wars: Force Unleashed demo yet?
Does anyone also like anime? I go for Dragonball Z, Gundam and Bleach myself. Two of those are Sci Fi to. I also forgot to mention Highlander as well.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/23/2008 1:33:15 AM | | Saw a trailer last night (when watching the Clone Wars~a bland film) for a remake of When The Earth Stood Still. I hope it's decent, but it has Canoe Reeves (hopeless actor) in it...so we shall see. | |

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/23/2008 1:37:56 AM | Oh there is so much wrong with the tastes in this thread. DS9 is second only to TNG, everyone's favourite star wars movie should be Empire Strikes Back, none of this episode 3 nonsense.
Anyone read the Nights Dawn trilogy?

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/23/2008 1:41:27 AM | | I liked the starwars films. But i can't say i'm a true fan as i've never written to George Lucas threatening him with Death because he introduced Jar Jar Binks into the saga. | |
|

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/23/2008 5:07:49 AM | I never forgave George Lucas for Jar Jar, and I still think Return of the Jedi would have worked better had they stuck to the original script and had Wookies instead of Ewoks.
I've not yet see the new Clone Wars film but it looks terrible to be honest.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/24/2008 3:20:05 AM | Stands up in Therapy Group and confesses: 'I love Sci-Fi / Supernatural' etc, etc.
I've been wrongly judged and discriminated against all my life for being fat, big, obese blah-dy blah. Why should I worry for also being into Sci-Fi. I have it on my profile. Maybe I am one of those rare 'honest' people. Or just a fat freak chic
80% of my previous partners are into Sci-Fi. That's one of the things that attracted me to them, that and a sense of humour. I became interested in this subject from a very young age (back in the 60s), when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, and an older brother who used to tell me his theories on the subject, .
If I already get passed by because I am fat (or a smoker, as on a different thread), then I consider being into Sci-Fi the least of my worries. I don't give a damn. I am what I am.
As for people being concerned that it would put other people off. You are all 'coming out of the woodwork' in these threads - and good on you, and this POF is just one of thousands of friends/dating sites. So just think how many people are interested in this topic. Being into Sci-Fi is less off-putting than a whole lot of other stuff I have seen on profiles.
Anyway, this was meant as encouragement, but sounds more like a rant - apologies all round. A couple of films I don't think I have seen listed in these threads are: Dark Star - (very good film with funny bits) Silent Running
I have seen hundreds of quality Sci-Fi films over the years, but my memory is not what it used to be . I would love to join a Sci-Fi group, whether it be on here or a meet-up. It would be fun.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/24/2008 3:55:20 AM | Everyone should love sci-fi. It uses a loose premise of futre/fantasy to explore contemporary themes and issues in a usually fun and exciting way.
Another film no one has mentioned, or probably seen - The Quiet Earth.
Look it up, amazing movie.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 8/24/2008 8:00:44 AM |
Anyone read the Nights Dawn trilogy?
Peter F Hamilton is the best science fiction author since Bester and Asimov, and can't believe you mention it in the same post as DS9!!!!! Star Trek was science fiction for kids to be fair, a utopian civilization will never happen as long as relgion is around to mess things up for everyone, and nothing ever had consquences in star trek...especially ds9 I remember one episode were worf was dating dax, dax died worf was all upset and in the next episode it was like he had completly forgotting about her. I dislike any show that doesn't have consquences to their actions, which is why Babylon 5 will always remain the greatest science fiction show in history...

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 10/11/2008 8:17:22 AM | | 2 things happened to me when I was 7. Space 1999 and Star Wars. Been a sci-fi lover ever since, from the usual suspects like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica to the more obscure like Otherworld and Automan. | |

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 10/11/2008 4:29:24 PM | Does fantasy fit here as well? I've read all the William Gibson stuff, but my favourite authours are Terry Pratchet and Neal Stephenson. Nothing like an good sci-fi/fantasy novel to pass the time with. Not sure about sci-fi on tv - but I am a child of the Star Wars Generation and I remember how it felt to see all the characters for the first time.
What did everybody think of the HogFather last Christmas on Sky?
|
| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 10/11/2008 6:02:07 PM | Huge treky fan here.
And Star wars too.
I still have my original Ewok, called Mookie from the movie.
My daughter had a maroon captain kirk fancy dress outfit, never snow white.

| Where are all the sci-fi lovers? Posted: 10/12/2008 1:55:54 AM | See, far more blokes on here than birds!
Plan 9 is in a class of its own - but the killer app is the stage musical of it. Check it out!
Audiovisually, I am surprised not to see mention (or did I miss a post) of the X-files or the Outer Limits - and for alien sex (or sexiness) I am shocked to see no mention of T'Pol although she is I think subtler than 7 of 9.
But I suggest that the real medium for SF is the writen word, for otherwise you are shackled to the visualisation of another while the point of SF is the flight of fancy. And within that genre - can the readers here have forgotten
Harry Harrison - Bill the Galactic Hero (et al) Trevor Donaldson - White Gold Wielder (et al) Keith Laumer - Retief John Norman - Gor
I could go to my bookshelves and continue for hours...
Alas I now seem to have no time to read.
