| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/17/2008 4:00:01 PM | I'm an ENFJ "Smooth-Talking Persuaders."
ENFJ's main interest in life is giving love, support, and a good time to other people. They are focused on understanding, supporting, and encouraging others. They make things happen for people, and get their best personal satisfaction from this.
In other words....................I'm an attention whore!
BUT!!!!!
I'm attention whore whom draws peoples' attention, then shares that attention with others, which, in turn, brings me more attention!
Boy that SO sounds like me back in my bar scene days! Always having an overflowing table, with people, at my fav pub.

you betcha! how many people do you know that have both the cojones and the intellect to not only survive, but *enjoy* the company of an INTJ for more than 3 weeks?

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/19/2008 7:28:13 PM | I' m a DILLIGAF type. I like that term...says so much about cultic crapola like Myers-Briggs. Down the hall and to the left is our T&D (training and development) department, filled with spazzes who actually believe that our organization, staffed with logical-rational linear thinkers, is going to listen to them peddle their Myers-Briggs wares. Sometimes I wonder if we have this department just to employ people who couldn't find "real" work.
Anyway, I alternate between EMBO and ESPN.

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/21/2008 8:52:58 AM | is the "MBTI" ever really used in practical applications? or how often? do organizations say "you are "____" therefore we'll put you in this job?
I've been in organizations that did the test on employees, and then..did nothing..made no changes to staffing, etc.
so, sort of..what's the point?
the only thing I got out of the full-day MBTI testing and indoctrination we did was this:
"people are different..and that's OK" .. " people approach things from different perspectives..and that's OK.."
anyone past the 3rd grade who didn't already KNOW that is unlikely to take it to heart because of a one-day MBTI dealio..

is the "MBTI" ever really used in practical applications? or how often? do organizations say "you are "____" therefore we'll put you in this job? Compleat -- Two words for ya...Psych Evaluation.
Though it's not the "official" MBTI, or Kiersey test, a psych eval is really no different than these. If you've ever taken one, you'd know. A lot of companies with high yield power positions will demand that you take one of these tests, and for good reason.
Somewhat denouncing MBTI is like denouncing IQ tests in general. If MBTI serves no real practical purpose, then the same can be said for IQ tests then? While I'm no big fan of either, because it seems that everyone has to try and figure out the human animal and put them in a neat little box...I can't dismiss them out of hand either just because they seem dull and irrelevant to me.
They do serve purposes, but only in the right context. If applicable to you, they mean more. If just a way to kill 10 minutes online to share your results, then it seems pretty much a waste of 10 minutes and nothing more.

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/21/2008 5:14:40 PM | bigdaddy, you didn't answer compleat's question. yup, it's a psych test. Yup, big corporations, the military, and touchy-feely organizations like to administer/require them. But the question is - why? What practical value do they serve? In a dating context I see the MBTI's value but not in the corporate world. My team is my team. I don't choose them based on their MBTI. I choose them based on their experience. I don't hire based on MBTI, I hire based on experience and what I see in the interview. These things may roughly correlate to the person's MBTI but I don't set out to hire only, for example, an INTJ because I need someone who is able to move seemlessly from strategic planner to detailed analytical. So, in essence, the company I work for (a Fortune 5) spends a lot of money so that I can know more about myself but serves little to no practical purpose to the company's profit goal. | |

Posted: 11/21/2008 5:55:58 PM | | ^^^^ I'm not sure which I find more reprehensible, a company that has no intention of using something they spend investors' money on, or a company that is obviously sociopathic yet still clings to touchy-feely training with a kind of desperation. [Note: there ARE other variables and combinations of the above, but I really don't have the time to provide every example.]

I just can't help it. I'm an INTJ Introverted, Intuitive, Thinker, Judger. Wow, talk about having your boat loaded. I own guns and love to shoot. My IQ is 159 and I have been kicked off the forums a total of 5 times by trappedonbaylist.......

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/22/2008 12:54:13 AM | | A company I worked for did use the tests... rearranged staffing, made hires based on experience and the 'fit'. Gave training, not just in sales, but also how to present ideas to different 'types'. I found it useful and interesting. | |

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/22/2008 7:06:35 AM | This will give y'all some insight on all the types:
ISTJ:
Lord, help me to relax my focus on insignificant details, even though any of them may cause significant problems later. Begin this tomorrow at 8 04 am.

God, please help me to consider other people's feelings, even if most of them ARE excessively hypersensitive.
ESTP:
God help me to accept responsibility for my own actions, even though problems are usually NOT my fault.
ESTJ:
God, please help me to not try to RUN everything. But, if You need some help, just ask.
ISFJ:
Lord, please help me to be more laid back and help me to do that EXACTLY right.
ISFP:
Lord, help me to stand up for my rights (if you don't mind my asking).
ESFP:
God help me to take things more seriously, especially jokes, parties, conversation and dancing.
ESFJ:
God give me the patience I need to deal with things more effectively, and I mean right NOW!

God, help me to finish everything I sta..

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/22/2008 8:16:49 AM | God help me. This is so right on. I am right between an INFP and an INTP. This is me exactly.
INFP:
God, help me to finish everything I sta..
INTP:
Lord, please help me to be a little less independent but in my own way, of course.
So funny. Thanks for that post.

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/22/2008 8:47:26 AM | | Looks like I'm the only ENTP...a strong extrovert and prefer people with strong personalities. It's interesting how you can take these tests over and over with the same results...they're hard to fool. | |

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/22/2008 12:45:39 PM | ENFJ here, and it seems quite accurate, especially the part about how we have to have solidtude to absorb that which happens around us.
You P's are a funny bunch. I can appreciate the importance of being able to see all sides to an argument, but somethimes.... you... just... have.... to ... DECIDE!

ENFJ here, and it seems quite accurate, especially the part about how we have to have solidtude to absorb that which happens around us.
It's an interesting contradiction, isn't it? That ENFJs are very people focused, that they understand and care for others, that they have a special talent for bringing out the best in others.... and simultaneously their time alone is so precious for them... times of solitude and times of external orientation.
But... even when they are with others the ENFJ may feel quite lonely... like aliens, no?

| Myers-Briggs Personality type...if you know it? Posted: 11/22/2008 1:14:34 PM | ^^ huh, I usually test out as an ENFJ Always said I'm either the world's most extraverted introvert... or the most introverted extravert. Does that make me an alien sister? | |
