| Food for thought...... Posted: 1/18/2008 6:35:42 PM | My mind as of late has been preoccupied, but as I've been sitting here thinking about this thread I realized that it is true that I have lost a friend to cancer. A young mother of the age of 43 was taken , and sadly left a ten year old daughter behind. I write this for you Annie.
Pride and Joy
All you ever wanted was a child of your own fight for this you did a daughter from heavens to you was sown
Elation filled your life when you spoke of her I saw light in your eyes this bundle of joy was your pride of that you could not disguise
Our friendship was full years brought us wonderous play never did I think from this world you would go away
A new job took you away from me of a future for your daughter you wanted to see
One fateful afternoon your sister I did meet as we were both walking down the same street
I asked of you how you had been as of late something told me in her eyes that her answer could not wait
Diagnosis of cancer was your's at an early age seems with rapid growth through your body it did rage
A couple of months ago sadly my friend you had passed away your pride and joy left behind my heart did so agonizingly sway
I couldn't believe it so young were you to die never in my mind could I imagine that you lay up their in blue skies
Your daughter now left all alone father is absent through life alone she would roam
A tear fell silently as this news to me was told anger filled me left my body cold
Why can't a cure be found to end these needless deaths I ask it is my soulful prayer that answers will come no longer hide behind a mask
May our future generations bring to us relief so that cancer shall no longer to loved ones cause grief.

Life deals so many the hardest of battles Tender young children yet to know of our pleasures Loved ones of age lived their lives as they should Mothers and Fathers enjoying parenthood Yet this pain could come to any of us tomorrow Whom is to know if tomorrow brings sorrow? This is something we all bring to mind Everyday as we watch others leave us behind Yet the battle has been won by so many True stories of courage fighting this hard lengthy battle! Winners are many Fighters by the score! With Hope and Faith Could be many more! Let this be the battle that lightens your mind May each of these hearts still Have Mountains to climb!

| Food for thought...... [Slide] Posted: 1/18/2008 9:00:34 PM | swell .... well ... I did loose someone [my mother] and my close friend neighbour is a survivor... and if you have no understanding of humour and its uplifting benifits to survivors ... then I feel sorry for you. | |

| Food for thought...... [Slide] Posted: 1/18/2008 9:04:01 PM | | I am sorry for your loss Thorb, yes I have lost many as well. I find no humour in the way you displayed it. Different people, different feelings, I guess. I found nothing beneficial in that poem. I am very sorry. No need to be sorry for me! I take this very , very seriously. I have lost many in my family. It is no joke, is all. | |

| Food for thought...... [Slide] Posted: 1/19/2008 1:42:41 AM | Not that anyone asked me or even to presume I have anything other than an opinion, but I see both sides of what you guys/gals are saying. I see the sadness of it all and how we have all struggled with that, and I see the side where we have to kick it aside as best we can. Please keep this going...more activity today than any other day this is awesome...It really can all be in print! DR | |

Death of a loved one rips a family to the core lost so wandering not sure of life anymore
How shall they continue without this loved one near some heal through laughter while others shed silent tears
Grief is handled through so many ways yet within each heart grieving tragedy still there plays.

| New Forum Heading Needed Posted: 1/20/2008 10:10:03 AM | I think if some how a new forum could be started, with a heading such as "Please Donate Poem for Cancer", it might attract more attention, as people would know what the forum was about. Currently, I think people may brush over the existing forum, thinking it is just another group of poems. Even if the new site only directed people to the original "Food for Thought" forum, it would help.
And I think that positive or even funny poems are also needed, as the book is a collection of poems to raise money, but not necessarily poems just about cancer. All types of poems can be included. I think DH has mentioned this before. Maybe more people would buy a book that had a wide variety of poems, as otherwise it might appear a bit too depressing or heavy duty for purchasers. You have to reach a market of potential buyers, and to reach a wider number of people, it may be better to have a diverse range of poems included. It may also mean that more people have poems they can contribute.

| Food for thought...... Posted: 1/20/2008 7:50:52 PM | OP: The verse below is my first attempt at writing poetry. Any suggestion for improvement would be most welcome. I wrote it this evening for a friend, a very talented musician who passed away in September, 2007.
"Staying in Tune"
He was young and swift and talented, Courageous to the end, He enriched our lives immensely, We should all have such a friend.
Athlete, musician, and dancer, “Three months…” they said you’ve got, The cursed word was “cancer”, Precious time, but not a lot.
For me, it came before you, Glimpsed the anguish and the pain, Your strength is my example, Should it ever come back again.
Un-be-known we played our music, My banjo and your guitar, Unaware our silent duet, Would take you where you are.
If you read this bit of poetry, From your place up in the sky, Please add yourself a verse or two, That we both can sing on high!

| Food for thought...... Posted: 1/21/2008 8:18:58 PM | Be a Survivor
The odds are there to be beaten, nothing is written in stone. the pot can always be sweetened, because you'll never fight it alone !
Who says it's a death sentence ? it's not like a rope on your neck ! Just summon up your resistance, and get it all straight in your head.
It’s a set-back, not a bitter end ; you can do it if you really try ! Look at the faith of your friends, you can see it there in their eyes.
Believe in yourself, as they do. Get up off the ground and fight. You have the will if you want to ; don’t fade away into the night.
Say the word over and over again, until you hate every damn letter. make a fist from a trembling hand, and smash that disease forever!
Smile and the world will know, that you are no longer afraid. stay focused, no matter how it goes, and it all will soon go away !
One by one and bit by tiny bit, the survivors out number the lost. they battle and never give in to it, no matter what it may cost.
Be a survivor, it’s there in the cards. fight for what you want to achieve ! Better to wear a lifetime of scars, than to give up and have to leave. DR

Judge not those that feel differant, accept there remarks as how they feel pain*
