| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/8/2008 11:06:45 AM | I totally understand the importance of this election, but really people just what do you think will change. Not what they say will change, but what will really change. Sorry, but I trust politicians about as far as I can spit. The world as far as I can see is seriously lacking in statesmen, those that really care about their country, not all the other crap like reelection. I do hope however that the political landscape down south change, almost as much as I want the landscape up here to change. Ya for the right to vote!!! | |

It needs to get on par and track with the rest of the world. For some reason I think some women are better with numbers (economy?) than some men and women combined. Like you think maybe women are better @ budgeting than men, I dont mean as a rule but generally?

| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/9/2008 3:42:46 AM | I don't really care who gets voted in since their country is doomed anyways. You can't counter poor choices with poor choices and expect good results.
How ever I think these should be a few good solid guidelines for voters since we have a black and female candidate.
Don't vote for a candidate just because he is black Don't vote against a candidate because he is black Don't vote for a candidate just because she is a woman Don't vote against a candidate because she is a woman
Sadly I think those guidelines will be ignored.
Maybe Clint Eastwood is available.

| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/9/2008 6:33:22 AM | Working as a ballot clerk and then later counting the votes in N.H. was an experience not to be missed. Being in N.H. during primary time it is one big party, a world war and getting a degree political science all at once. When I left for my break at 1 p.m. we were all amazed at the number people coming out to vote. They all believe that one vote could make a difference. Many undeclared (used to be listed as independent) asked for democrat ballots saying the wanted to make a difference (they didn't say who they were going to vote for). One woman hadn't voted since Kennedy but came out and voted again. The media really tried to influence people but in N.H. at least people are just too damm stubbon to feel any election 'is in the bag'. As I told my granddaughter--they will all say they are going to do nice things--like who would say I really want to see boys die needlessly in war--or people go without heat--but to look at people's voting records (not what the media says the record is) and then decide based on what people do/did NOT what they say they will do. Now, lets hope in the next election in Canada people will also pay attention, look at voting records--and get out and vote! | |

| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/14/2008 9:54:19 PM | Maya Angelou.is a person who brought Oprah Winfrey to be the person who she is today, and Maya has thrown her support behind Mrs Clinton. (While Ms Oprah proudly supports Obama) Its nice to hear from the American people by the way on this forum. It'd be funny to learn who America would like to lead Canada, surely a rather sleight former Environment minister with a heavy French accent? The election fever south of the 49th is palatable and whos to say>? Ours might be sooner than yours. | |

Unfortuneatly america (similar to god green earth- Canada) not enough people get out to vote or even worse base thier opinions on someone else's research ( whom ever Oprah or whom ever thinks should win) "The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity" The Second Coming W.B. Yeats
Great poem - keeps popping into my head when there is an election on the horizon (sigh).

| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/17/2008 3:10:42 PM | Damn right... it does affect Canadians.... cos... by the Democrats choosing a race between a woman an a black man. There is no way they are going to win against the Republicans with that kinda leadership.
so... let's just face it.. the Republicans and Bush-arse kissing brothers and followers are going to be in next year this time.

| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/18/2008 12:34:36 PM | | neither, thank you. Did my research on both, and they are scary for Canada, scarier than Dion or Layton would be.... | |
|
| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/18/2008 2:01:09 PM | | ^^^ ha ha.. scary for Canada?? wtf? And the republicans are great?? | |

not sure yet about the candidates on that side of the fence either, but on the basics, they are far more pro-Canada, pro-trade and far more straight shooters than the two democratic front runners.
Think of Layton & Dion, protectionists, with no sense of what makes the economy run (it should be state sanctioned and supported financially and no outside money should be in the country...plus let's put daisies in the rifles of the military) about 10x worse. The democratic runners favour closing down NAFTA, withdrawing immediately from all the hot zones in the world (let terrorism do it's own thing), and protectionism of their markets and industries. ...do some research on thier history and what they stand for...
tidbit...Hillary claimed her mother named her after the same Hillary who climbed Mt Everest, to inspire her to greatness.... ...problem is, she was already born and grown when he climbed Everest and became famous...now really...is that a politician lying to get power, and wanna be something they aren't...or what? (ya...ours are not much different when you look at some of them...) She's also responsible for the current state og health care in the US...it was her plan for the HMO's....
Obama....ya...great speech maker....ends there....
|
| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/18/2008 5:33:48 PM | And because Hillary has tried to reform the US healthcare system and Obama is a great speech maker (thats your research??), that makes it scary for Canada???
I really hope the US citizens do decide to go with change and vote in Obama.

| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/18/2008 5:41:04 PM | gon fishin...that is but a brief overview of what my research entailed....try doing some yourself, before you criticize my comments. Call what i said a teaser...to get you to do some homework....
BTW...you seem to have ignored the rest of my post....ahhh, I get it! Your'e like many other voters...what feels good, sounds good, and then complain because you did not make an informed choice....what the majority do, so you fit right in....
...is that what makes an opinion (not especially yours) that much more valid...it sounds good and goes with what i (the writer or person talking) want to believe and ignore the facts?
btw...what change is Obama proposing? does anyone know?????? I even see Layton is trying to jump on that bandwagon..change....to what???? What change are either proposing that will better the people's lives and economies of either country?...ummmmm??
good sound bite...that's about it....
|
| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/18/2008 5:50:33 PM | Can't be bothered to do research on candidates that i will never be able to vote for. You do realize cuddly, you can't vote for them if you are not a US citizen...lol
It makes me wonder why you think they are scary for Canada though. Really, why would it bother you soooo much if one of them did get into power?
edit:
good sound bite...that's about it....
Aren't all politicians like that.. tell ya what ya want to hear??
|
| Hillary or Obama........ Posted: 1/18/2008 5:53:33 PM | if you haven't a clue to how the US politics, which party is in power, and how it directly affects your life in Canada....then you shouldn't be making comments...
hence, why you don't want to do some research and find out just how much the US & Canadian politics and policies affect each other. It comes right down to the price of a diaper, the type of shampoo you can buy, the phone calls you make, the money you borrow, the credit card you use and the interest rates charged...and if you can even cross the border....
our economic and social policies are intricately linked...and always will be...
can i vote there...no, can i be concerned...I better be!
edit...reply to next post by gon fishin... thanks...you made my point from this post ....ROFLMAO..and spitting up wine while choking from the laughter....

umm cuddly.. they aren't in power yet.
and yes... canadian politic and politicians are just puppets to the US.. just as business is. Thats the problem with Canadians.. they worry too much about what the US is doing.
Cuddly.. money isn't everything ya know. Thats all it seems you are worried about.. the almighty dollar.
