| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 12:10:28 PM | | I read that 30-45 mins is good, but anything over that will mess with your sleep cycle.Too long of a nap will not refresh but will drag you down. | |

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 12:40:25 PM | ...I don't see anything wrong in taking a quick nap. Sometimes after work I will get myself all comfortable on my couch and close my eyes for 15 or 20 minutes ....I don't always sleep but that time helps to relax and unwind....now today is a different story entirely. I had a very late night, the girls are gone and the house is quite...maybe I can sneak in a quick 40 winks....BTW does anyone know how long 40 winks are?

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 1:13:58 PM | I have never been able to nap, and being over 45 hadn't changed that fact.
I would rather have a real sleep than a nap, so I just don't bother................

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 1:26:03 PM | That's some BIG fish in your pic OP!!!!! I've also noticed that I tend to nod off more easily in the winter months. Lately, it's happened while sitting straight up, either watching TV or reading. POOF I'm gone. I've never napped in my life. Except as a young child, when my Mom made me have a nap. Maybe, I'm going through my second childhood. | |

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 1:26:16 PM | I just go and go until I drop, then I sleep.......has little to do with age now, and more to do with life style, attitude and conditioning. I have done this most, if not all of my life, the only difference is that I seem to need less sleep now then I did when young.
My son can play hard and sleep for 12 to 14 hours, and I can not do that, even after a long day and night......seems six to eight is more than I ever need, unless sick, and then if that, being male.....I need to whine and be taken care of........
By the way.....40 winks can be an hour or 10 depending on "how" you wink, "why", and with "whom"....... Taking a nap is not a function of age, but more of an attitude, along with how you use them....
Just my opinion........
|
| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 1:34:15 PM | I WOKE UP FOR THIS????
My understanding of 40 winks was it means 40 minutes. But that's just me...if I sleep 40 minutes in a row it's a good thing. I can nap 8 or 9 times a day and still not get 8 in 24!!

...If there's a with " whom" involved...I can guarantee, I won' be napping.

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 1:56:58 PM | I figure we learn our ABCs, basic Math, in Elementary school grades. They say it's easier to teach second languages, learning skills, etc. etc. when at a tender age.
Well.......................... I decided to think 'Young' all through my life.
Naps were mandatory when I went to school. We had to lay our heads down on our desks and close our eyes.
It's second nature to me now. Just like coming up with math answers in my head without a computer or calculator... or knowing the difference between 'they're and their'. Naps were part of that regiment and by gosh I'm sticking to it.
|
| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 2:07:12 PM | If with the right person Mae......there is no choice but to "nap" sooner or later........
OT......."Naps" are for those that need them, when the need them, and how they need them.......the rest is just called "sleeping"......
Just my opinion........

They're ok if you wake up before the next day! Hey, they're ok if you sleep on into the next day too, for those of us who aren't under scheduling demands!

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 8:40:26 PM | There are times when I wish I could just nod off. It just isn't in me. I have far to much energy for even my own good sometimes. It comes in handy when travelling internationally and then I don't want to sleep when I arrive because I am in a hurry to get into an adventure. Nap on the plane just isn't going to happen. Guess I just don't need as much sleep as others. | |

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/6/2008 11:39:48 PM | My wife had a folding cot at her office for many years that she could use to take those 30 minute power naps! They were always a grand thing for her and I learned a long time ago if you want your woman to stay beautiful, you had better let her get all the sleep she wants!!!
Personally, I can't take a power nap without either staying out for a couple of hours or waking so groggy that I'm wasted the better part of a couple of hours. I also get up very early, sometimes I want a nap but I'm a night person as a rule, and much less energized during the day till afternoon, then I start to feel like "myself"... who knows, it's probably in the genes...

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/7/2008 7:52:09 AM | Are they okay? Hell, they're a necessity !...lmao
Let me tell ya, there's nothing better than a rainy weekend....lounging in your pj's..... a pot of coffee.... the LifeTime Channel.....and dozing with 2 Bichons. The weekend is made of up of a series of naps....not just 1 in the afternoon....lol.

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/7/2008 10:41:32 AM | It's been in vogue in Italy, Spain and many other parts of the world for centuries. I've read medical research findings concluding that siestas greatly reduce stress. Not practical in countries where commuting to work is the standard. Excuse me, but...[yawn]... | |

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/7/2008 10:54:01 AM | | I love naps!!! They're yummy!!! I don't think it matters how old you are, some people (like me) love naps! ... and I guess some don't. I'm a nightowl so a little power nap in the middle of the day does me a world of good!!! | |
|
| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/9/2008 5:01:45 PM | | Over 45??? I don't think I would have survived when my kids were toddlers if I hadn't napped when they did. The nap made it a lot easier to keep up with them later LOL. I still nap, but more so now because I stay up late and get up early and need a nap to get even 8 hours sleep in. I saw something just recently that in some cultures that sleeping in broken sessions throughout 24 hours is common. At any time of the day or night people in the community would be up doing something and others sleeping. Maybe it is a cultural thing. | |
