| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/13/2008 11:10:52 AM | The list of benefits from naps, varying in length, and to any age group, are enormous. See websites such as sleep foundation. Even Reader's Digest states that naps reduce stress, therefore reducing the risk of heart attacks, which of course that risk goes up with age. Many cultures condone naps, as are more and more corporate entities, simply for the increased productivity, less oversights, and all around good will. Walk into a forest around 2-3 pm, you should notice the sound/activity level is less than at other times of the waking day.
Or, think like a dog, "Never pass up the opportunity for a good nap"

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/15/2008 12:42:23 PM | I remember in my early 30s when I was out of work for 2 years and yes, I did have afternoon siestas (nap) whenever possible. I felt so refreshed and "full of beans" it was like a day started all over again.
Listen to your body OP and have a nap.

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/15/2008 2:58:35 PM | Gotta have those naps!! I'm up at 4 a.m. when working days, so I also will have a short nap when I get home. It helps to recharge me. Naps are great for any age. It also helps to strengthen our immune system to combat those nasty colds and flu bugs we keep running into this time of year. A rested body is a healthy body | |

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/15/2008 4:49:27 PM | I am a huge fan of naps I've been napping for about an hour after work since I was in my early 20's...it's the best sleep I get and eases the stress of the workday...kinda my version of stopping off for a beer after work. | |

Numerous small meals with protein versus "breakfast, lunch and a (big) dinner" will also "even" you out during the day so you don't feel like napping (sugar spikes).
In the winter, get more sunlight (blue light) to stimulate hormones that keep you awake / alert.

I like a nice little nap but I usually lay down for one and wake up from a coma....

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/27/2008 6:44:38 PM | | I do it. I think that (for whatever reason) when we're in middle age, we roll out of bed earlier and go to bed later than I did when I was in my 20's. My alarm goes off at ~5:15, I'm in the office by 6:45, usually don't leave til about 5pm and by the time I get home and have eaten dinner, it's usually 6:30. And I'm beat but it's way to early to go to bed. So I catch an hour of sleep, and then stay up till midnight doing homework, chores, Net Surfing or reading, with some family time sprinkled in. Definitely not one of these supermen who hit the ground running at 5am and keep it rolling until 11:30pm. Whatever! | |

I envy all you people who can nap! I can't. I just can't. I lay down and nothing
...Hmmm, I'm thinking you might need to get into some "physical activites" with a "workout Buddy" that might tire you out.
