| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/28/2008 9:09:20 AM | Believe me ... anyone who dates this ol' fart in the evening would much rather I have a short nap late in the afternoon. Trust me on that one (lol).

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/28/2008 1:05:45 PM | When I was in Aruba a number of years ago I noticed some of the shops closed between 2 and 4 every afternoon. I asked why, and was told it was their siesta time. It would be nice if we could do that here in our work places.
I'm not a day time sleeper, but it's nice to just lay in bed , close my eyes, and stretch out for 20 minutes after work.

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 1/29/2008 10:08:49 AM | I agree.......afternoon naps are great!!! Better after the age of 45 if you have kids, otherwise they come and bother the heck out you asking questions like "Why are you sleeping, the sun is up?" Or any other numerous reasons, and it is usually after one of them have kept you up all night being sick or scared. Now I have a reason to nap I "put" my three year old grandson down for a nap with me, only he just thinks we are watching a movie in my bed "veggie tales are great" and usually within a half hour he is gone "out like a light" for about three hours. Only problem is, he doesnt like to sleep alone (cuz the monsters will get him) so, if I try to sneak out to do something I want to do without his help, he is usually up and about withing 20 minutes. He likes to sleep touching me with his foot, or hand. I sense where this is leading when he gets in a relationship when he is older.
I do agree with the poster who mentioned why we have to ask permission for doing anything when we get older. I know for me, it was the old programming when I was younger, and it was very hard to break those tapes in my head that kept telling me I was lazy if I wasnt doing something all the time. Reading? forget it, you have chores to do. go swimming, forget it, there is dusting to do. You know, that kind of stuff. Well, I finally got those tapes broken, busted, destroyed......and I take my nap......without guilt.......without shame. Life is short....eat dessert first...or whatever else you enjoy!

These are, of course, the same people who eventually run corporations, governments, military organizations, etc., and who you will invariably entrusting your future, should you enter into voluntary slavery with any of them.

But other studies have shown the afternoon naps, even cat naps, have benefits.

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 2/23/2008 9:33:27 AM | | I am a lifelong napper. I looooooves me naps! Just a short 10-12 minutes or so down and I'm good for many more hours. There's a reason so many countries have siesta times built into their schedules - naps are good for you :) | |

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 2/24/2008 2:41:56 PM | | I haven't had or wanted a nap since I started going to school. Some of us have too much energy to sleep much. | |
|
| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 2/24/2008 3:27:42 PM | I have to get up for work at 4:30, five or sometimes six days a week. If I want to stay up past 6:00 in the evening , sometimes a nap is a necessity. I try not to let the nap last more than 30 minutes, but sometimes due to exhaustion it does. If I do not nap a few of those days, by weeks end I am so exhausted and it is hard to finish out my work week, with a smile on my face. Nobody likes a cranky co-worker. I usually only get about 5-6 hours of sleep at night, which just isnt enough.
I will have to remember the keys in the hand trick, that is a good tip.
I also agree it is not an age thing. When my children were young I often took a quick nap while they were sleeping, it helped to deal with the rest of the day.

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 2/25/2008 11:01:07 AM | Oh my......... I'm the Queen of naps. I think that this "activity" slowly creeps into our lives as children grow up and retirement sets in. Power naps???? Nope, I plan my day around my naps. I get morning chores done, eat lunch, and get into comfy PJ's.... even turn off the phone..... bed, here I come. Naps are serious business for me. lol Then I'm back up after 2 hours and ready to meet the evening. Please, don't tell me that this isn't normal. | |

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 2/25/2008 11:48:36 AM | | If I had a nap in the afternoon, I wouldn't be able to sleep that night. Not everyone needs/wants a lot of sleep. | |

Speed, cocaine, caffeine, crazy diets, alcohol all can contribute to abundant energy and only a few actually make it to run organizations solely based on being psychotics, there's got to be some mania mixed in with the psychotic behaviors when there's a lack of sleep.

| are afternoon naps ok once over 45 Posted: 2/25/2008 5:23:09 PM | | Then there are the people who don't let stress and the bs of life get them down, so they naturally have lots on energy, and don't have to hide from life to get some peace. | |
