I'm sure women understate and men overstate...
This statement might be right as pertains to younger men, but I'm not sure it applies to men as they get older.
Men in general are more promiscuous
I would love to see statistics supporting this speculation.....
I especially am curious, if there are more men having multiple sex partners than there are women who are they have sex with? Only a few women? If that theory held water those few women would be doing nothing else to account for the numbers. I guess if we took the suggestions and stats from another thread and conclude that all the men are having sex only with women who smoke?

Men in general are more promiscuous, but if some women are EXTREMELY promiscuous and sleep with many, many men then that allows a good number of women to be below the average number of partners.
Huhh?? Double huhhh? This is very much a mathemathical impossibility!! Your argument comes from a statistical distribution perspective but still has no validity. Your assumption says that there are a few females who would scue the distribution such as prostitutes. Yes for the short sighted this might seem logical. But they have their male counterparts (think athletes, rock stars, bad boys, players etc) who all are in the tripple and quadruple digits. So your argument makes no sense what so ever.
For example; use POF as your measure. I bet there are a few studs (players) on this site who are laying pipe with a new woman every week. The bulk of the men can't even get a date let alone an e-mail. In essence, this means that a few men have a lot of sex, most women have some sex, and the bulk of the males have no sex at all. Applying your logic, this would mean that POF females are generally more promiscuous than men!! Do you see the fallacy in your logic now!!! | |

And that is exactly what happens. History repeats itself as soon as there is a bump in the road! That is how they deal with stress, adversity, lack of self confidence or anger. Posted: 1/9/2008 4:11:19 PM | Well to be honest someone who sleeps around a lot "is a slut in my eyes". With that being said I WILL NEVER MARRY A WOMAN who has had multiple partners. I actually stopped talking to a female on line because she's had as many sexual partners as me. Im 28 years old she was only 23 so by the time she would of reached my age. She would have almost twice the number of sexual partners than I've had. She was very attractive & still tries to contact me but she just recently added another one to the list.
I'm sorry but if a woman is in her early 20's & she has had almost double digit number of sexual partners I will not make her my girl friend or my wife. Sorry I just can't do it!

Some women just love having sex, others want to get into relationships but are chronically bad at choosing the right guys, other women just aren't very good at saying no, though these aren't necessarily reflections on a persons over all character they can correlate with other aspects of a person that might be critical in a long term relationship. If a girl is unable to discern who cares for her before she has sex with them she may grow calloused after years of being used and abused by the guys she's been with thus making her view of newer relationships a shallow one. Self esteem , is self worth and in human society a measure of self worth is tied up in a persons sexual promiscuity but varies with culture. In some societies sexual promiscuity is accepted in others it is shunned, I presume the question is asked for the perspective of people in American society in which case the stigma of sexual promiscuity weighs more on women than men. In my own experience I've chosen to hold myself to my own standard, so I have no issues with relationships with anyone who is as experienced as me or slightly more or less but not significantly more as it shows a level of self restraint that I feel is incompatible with me. To do otherwise would be hypocritical in my view, some guys sleep around but want only to marry a virgin, different people have different preferences on this point. My choice is to avoid being a hypocrite, holding prospective partners to the same standards that I hold myself. | |

Mytfineman, please understand that we're not ignoring the root causes... just accepting that its beyond our capacity to address them. While I agree many socio-economic factors go in to establishing a society's moral code- surely you would not argue that cheating rips at our very social fabric and the pain it causes can seem immeasurable.
To qualify my earlier statement- if you meet someone under "slutty" circumstances: ie she leaves her boyfriend for you or you were sexual partner #3 or #4 for that month and she decides to stick with you for a while- then you should have seen it coming.
However there are many women who have struggled to exorcise the demons from their soul and are now emotionally mature for a real relationship. I think that once you've learned your lesson and have some peace in your soul your past shouldn't be held against you. | |

This is a question born out of the "gals are call sluts and guys get congratulated" thread. Would you have a long term relationship or marry a woman who before you had been a slut?
Slut can be by whatever definition you wish. Feel free to define what your limits are.
It would bother me unless her values had changed over time and her actions showed it. I don't really find promiscuous behavior attractive in a partner, nor do I praise other men for it. | |

What some refer to as a Type of "Lifestyle" ... dating different Men entirely for the Purpose of Sex, be it simultaneously or sequentially, its nevertheless a Slut to me.
Perhaps those Men who are also just looking for Sex view it differently again from those who envision "Long Term".
Some see "Slut" as implying something on the Order of "Good in Bed" ... | |
