Tis true though, good thread. Mucho PoF men get mail asking for shelving help etc and dont take it as a direct chatup line ladees, even though I explain I think that is the intention. Bit like some of their msn 15mm euphemisms for a bunch of flowers! Bless! | |

I agree, there's nothing worse than all that 'left a bit, right a bit, faster, slower' nonsense. Far easier to do it yourself. Easier perhaps.But as much fun?

Posted: 5/8/2008 9:07:27 AM | Most stuffs do-able if you take the time to have a go alot easier if someone can show you a bit first. Admittedly I have had to put right a fair few bodges some by over enthusiastic DIYers and others is just dodgey builders.

I do tend to give it a good go myself, but i do think it would be a lot more interesting being shown some new tricks by someone that knows how to do a good job!  .

i have, in the past, put up my own architrave, mended countless 'sticky' door handles, laid carpet and lino, have become adept at mending dodgy toilet flushes, and put all flatpack furniture together myself...
the one thing that i will never ever attempt is anything that involves drilling...don't know why, but the drill scares me to death... | |

Have not had much call to do anything else in the last two years but I can deal with spiders as long as my hoover's working (hate the bu88ers) though I'd much rather not !! | |

Posted: 5/9/2008 2:45:01 AM | I've learnt to do pretty much everything myself. Living with a builder for years helped as I picked up quite a bit from him!! I also have a large DIY manual!
My one let down is flat-pack furniture. I am an intelligent lady... but I always manage to get one or several bits of it wrong! I read the instructions thoroughly.... follow the exactly...and still get it wrong!! Hence quite a few things in my house are wobbly or wonky or have something on the wrong way lol
I've mastered going up in the loft and to the tip.... and being a female going into a builders merchants is handy as they fall over themselves to help you out to you car with wood etc.
Spiders are the worst thing.... I admit I did have to get a male friend to go into the deepest parts of my shed so I could clear it out! Neighbours thought I was insane when they saw me hoovering my shed lol | |

no he mentioned he does locks too (did manage to lock myself out once and had to call on my ex for help) but I suspect he might be able to turn his hand to other stuff. Not making it sound any better am I?
