DIY or ask a man to help?

Next Monday my mate is replastering my bathroom - and she's gonna show me how to do it too so that'll be something I can do for myself in future.

In return I'm showing her how to do some paint effects she wants in her living room and giving her a hand to paint the ceiling.

Had a nightmare a couple of weeks ago fixing the bog after I couldn't get a plumber out to it (they told me the soonest they could help was in 3 days time - who wants a house stinking of sewage that long?). It took me a whole day whereas an expert would have probably taken 15 minutes (unless trying to rachet up the bill!), but I managed it.

If I can afford, and they are available, it though I prefer to go out for the day and leave an expert to just get on with it. Sadly reliable/honest tradesmen in London are short supply, you have to take the time to weed out the cowboys.

I always get an expert in to deal with gas and electrics - I don't have a death wish. Bodging a paint job just looks bad but bodging electrics could be lethal.

yeah know what ya mean im forever fixing other cowboys bodges pain in the bum in all honesty your better off doin the smaller jobs yourself as if you take your time you ll probably do a better job than someone who just wants your money an out the door. i always say to people dont pay me till the end and if your not happy with my work then you dont pay me never came unstuck yet its a mutual trust thing y know ...if a tradesman asks fer money up front say no an get your own material take it from someone whos bin in the game a long while..never pay till completion youll always ensure you get a better job an cleaner floor if there hungary for there money ive heard storeys of people paying some money upfront and waiting forever for the tradesman to come back an finish the job that doesnt happen when you dont pay upfront if they say they need money for materials tell em youll go with em an pay for the material yourself as you want the bills

'hope 'isnt it funny sometimes the more you try to get your foot out ya mouth the worse you make it he he i do it all the time
