Most memorable novels from my teenagehood would be "The Collector" by John Fowles and both "War & peace" and "Anna Karenina" by Tolstoy, I'd rather just look at pictures nowadays.

Its the war time diaries of a Free Fench Pilot in WWII who came to Britian from France in 1939. You feel as though you are in the****t with him. I 1st read it when I was about 13 and read it 4 more times before leaving school at 16. I have also read it several times since and always look for it at bootsales, as I would love to reread it again.

The first for the detail and the amazing way he has of making the reader feel they are really there; the second for ensuring I never see the A9 the same way again.

I couldn't put it down even though the subject matter isn't my usual taste, it is so well written you feel as though you're in the trenches alongside the men. It gives you an overwhelming appreciation and admiration for what they went through in the Great War.
you beat me to it..
an awsome book. sad though, a guy goes his whole life and never really knows love.
as a kiddie i loved the silver sword, dont remember who wrote it. i bought it for my kids, think i might just dig it out and have a read...

Thats what got me into reading I think.
Also, the Lee Child books. His character, Jack Reacher quit the rat race, roams around USA. He has only one possession, a toothbrush. Does not even carry luggage - replaces rather than changes clothes.
Has left an impression on me, in that I would love to try that sort of nomadic lifestyle !

I have just read He's just not that into you, can't remember the authors but very enlightening but sadly i will probably keep making the same mistakes.

A few years back, a friend recommended a book to me called "A child called It" it was a true story of a boys nightmare childhood at the hands of his abusive mother.
The story continued in "The lost boy" and finished with "A man called David"
Reading it, it left me reeling in horror as to how a mother could treat her child in such an horrific fashion.................David Pelzer was the child in the books, it left me with such stomach churning emotions, it was a book that was literally unputdownable....and one that will stay with me forever...............
Have you read a book that just blew your mind?
I read those books also, had me in tears right from the start.
A piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown was another abuse autobiog, that was an incredible read also.

My last really great reads were both by Khaled Hosseini - The kite runner & A thousand splendid suns. Both set in Afghanistan they taught me things I didnt know and made me cry - wonderful!

I knew nothing about the Biafran war in the 60's until i read this. I loved the characters, and by the end of the book i felt totally attached to them. Great author and one i will certainly read again.

| Books that leave a lasting impression on you! Posted: 4/6/2008 1:40:46 AM | I have read the Dave Peltzer books, the first 1 i read in about 8 hours,i wanted to put it down because what i was reading was making me sick, but i needed to know the outcome. When i finished reading it i cried for about an hour.I dont think anyone that reads these books will forget them. Another 1 along the same sort of lines is Little prisoner. Torey Haydens books are good ,ghost girl by her leaves a lasting impression as to how sick some people could actually be. My favourite books as a child were the wind in the willows, and i read of mice and men in high school and loved it. | |

Posted: 4/6/2008 2:24:29 AM | i have read a child called it and a few others along the same lines, little prisoner, dont tell mummy, behind closed doors and i find you cant help but be affected by these sad stories. another true story book that left an impression on me was paul britton the jigsaw man he was a pshychological profiler and he was involved in many high profile case such as cromwell street and jamie bulger. it is hard to read at times given that these are true cases but just amazing how he works thing out. i would have to say the best book from my childhood is the water babies by charles kingsley i read is so many times and even enjoyed it as an adult when reading it to my kids .
