I didn't say individual stats, I said individual match ups. It doesn't matter what a team defense is ranked over all. If player A can whoop players be on the line, that's the type of matchups I talk about.

Week 1 - Dallas 45 New York 35

Week 10- Dallas 31 New York 20

Those stats mean nothing!!!!!! Its how they are playing NOW!

Something isn't quite right with this picture.

In Dallas, the head coach is answering questions about his job security. Yes, the same guy who in his first season at the helm of the Cowboys led them to a 13-3 record, a division championship, and first-round playoff bye.

In New York, the head coach is answering questions about how smart he was for playing all of his starters for most of a meaningless season-finale against New England because of the momentum it helped build for the postseason. Yes, the same guy who presumably entered the playoffs with a tenuous grasp on the position he has held with the Giants since 2004.

Such scenes offer a pretty clear indication of why Sunday's divisional-round playoff game at Texas Stadium is, at the very least, expected to be as close and competitive as any played this weekend. And, at the very least, could produce a major upset.

Wade Phillips' Cowboys did not finish the season strong.

Tom Coughlin's Giants lost their finale, but gave a surprisingly inspired effort that nearly resulted in a victory to spoil the Patriots' perfect season. A week later, they put on a mostly impressive showing on the way to a 24-14 wild-card victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Giants have shown plenty of grit by winning eight consecutive road games, including the wild-card playoff in Tampa, since their season-opening loss at Dallas.

In Dallas, many critics wonder whether the opposite has taken place. The Cowboys lost two of their last three games and ended the season with an ugly, 27-6 loss to the Washington Redskins. And by ugly, we're not just talking about being sloppy. The Cowboys produced just 1 rushing yard, the lowest in franchise history.

Furthermore, they have not played particularly well since beating the Green Bay Packers, 37-27, on Nov. 29 to gain an edge they would never relinquish in the battle for home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs. They needed a rally in the final minute for a one-point win at Detroit. Then they lost to another non-playoff team, Philadelphia. After that came a 20-13 triumph over Carolina, followed a day later by the Packers' loss at Chicago to give the Cowboys home-field advantage.

Dallas' once-vaunted offense, which scored at least 24 points through the first 13 games, has averaged a mere 10 points in the last three.

All of a sudden, the Cowboys' season sweep of the Giants doesn't seem to mean all that much. The focus is on the fact they haven't won a playoff game since 1996. The focus also is on whether Tony Romo, who has thrown only one touchdown pass and five interceptions in his last three games, actually has what it takes to win a playoff game.

After all, he is the same quarterback whose botched hold on a field-goal attempt that helped lead to the Cowboys being promptly bounced from the 2006 playoffs by Seattle. He has plenty to prove, especially in light of the mammoth contract he was awarded during the season. As if that weren't pressure enough, Romo's best weapon, receiver Terrell Owens, is battling back from a high ankle sprain.

The Giants' game plan for Sunday is all about pressure. Coughlin thought his team, which produced 53 sacks during the regular season, didn't deliver enough of it in either loss to the Cowboys. Romo has enjoyed mostly solid protection, but coaches and scouts throughout the NFL believe he can be easily flustered by the kind of extreme heat the Giants were able to place on the Bucs' Jeff Garcia, who threw two interceptions and was largely ineffective.

Romo's franchise-record 36 touchdown passes in the regular season no longer matter. It's all about what he does beginning Sunday.

You've been throwing stats in my face all day and now you say this. Like I said the came will come down to whether or not player A can whoop player B's ass or not.

I guess anything could happen in the playoffs, a team can easily just have a bad game that can cost them. Look what happen to the Bucs, they werent looking sharp as they did during the regular season, instead they were rusty and the Giants ended up beating them.

Stats don't win games. Teams win games.

That's why I'm agreeing with Magnanimous1 and picking the Cowboys over the Gnats.

Magnanimous1, yours is a lone voice in this forum wildnerness but it's the only one making sense.

Stat boys, here's a number for you: Spread favors Cowboys by 71/2.

Well good luck to your Cowgirls! Being you are from Dallas. I would be surprised if you said anything else. Hope that Jessica is not in the stands blowing kisses to Romo. Could cost Dallas the game!

Gnats? As in little fling insects that seem to just not go away? Guess you do have to get used to them after awhile. When they are all around Romo.

Oh , Give my love to TO

I dont like the Giants, never have and never will. But that said, I am not impressed with Romo either.

But how I see it is you have the Giants strongest feature (defense) against the Cowboys' strongest feature (their offense), and looking at the performance of those particular things recently it doesnt bode well for the Cowboys. I have said since the beginning of the season that Dallas would make it partway thru the playoffs but wont get a superbowl win. Whats more relevant now is which player injuries each team has, not who did what in the game in Week 1.

We all know that all wins are not created equal, some are through sustained quality performance and others are through circumstances and things that were out of their control (i.e. a given team might have won a game off a fumble recovery, but you can't implement that in every game necessarily). We have to look at what brought these two teams this far and whether it is sustainable or not.

The closer this game gets, the more I'm liking the Giants here. Two of their DB's are banged up yes, and it really depends on which Eli shows up, but a lot of the playoffs is about momentum. Giants have it. Cowboys, I'm not so sure about anymore. They were lucky up in Detroit to pull the fat out of the fire, otherwise they would have ended the season with three straight losses.

Giants on t'other hand...I'm beginning to wonder if Coughlin didn't border on genius getting his team to come to play when they closed out the regular season against the Pats. He might have said, this could be your only chance to see how good you are against a 'perfect' team, or he could have said, let's use this game as our measuring stick. If we can beat these guys, we should be able to win a SuperBowl.

He may have come out of that game with about 45 some players suddenly believing in themselves a whole lot more as contenders. They're tough on the road, and it's tough to beat the same team 3 times. I'm liking the G-Men here. Strahan with at least 2 sacks.

Giants 24 Cowboys 20

I can understand some like Pepsi and some like Coke. You may never like the other and always prefer the one you lke. But at times when your favorite is not available do you settle when thirsty. Being from New York I never really liked the Jets. Was always a Giants fan. But if they where in the race I would always route for them.
Football fans always have a team or teams we just do not like. Why is that? Division rivalries I guess.

And I agree with you. Doesn't mater how high you are in the stats, its how you got there and how your playing now. Its so easy to fall and drop that ball in the last few seconds.

This Cowboy fan is just ready to see a good game tomorrow & I think it will be exactly that. As I have posted in the other Cowboy thread..If The Cowboys don't exhibit some sense of urgency they will be one & done. I think it is time for Marion Barber to get 25+ carries in a game.

I am a Cowboys fan also................ but I just dont feel the excitement this year.
win or lose tomorrow Nobody in the NFC is beating the Patriots this year this has to be the best team ever assembled in the NFL History. with probably the best coach in football right now. So baring any injury to Tom Brady its going to be all for not.
My Hats Off to New England they deserve it

The key to this game, strangely enough, is the Jessica Simpson factor!!!! If she is not in the stadium, Romo plays well and the Cowboys win. If Simpson is in the stadium, Romo is tight and the Giants pull the upset.

Without Simpson ............ Cowboys 37 Giants 29

With Simpson ..............Giants 31 Cowboys 23

The most important, overlooked player in this game may very well be Terry Glenn.

Jessica Simpson won't be at the game. Her publicist says she is working on a new album but will watch on TV.

Yeah, cause that makes sense, lol...she was soooo asked not to attend, lol.

I think that the Giants have the best chance for the upset... for what that is worth.

I don't know if they will do it, but they have the best chance.

It's all about match ups and the Giants don't match up with the cowboys at all.
