| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/23/2008 9:02:11 AM | Hi all this is Bryon.I have a question I would like to throw out at everyone that is coming. What do you think about having a pot luck dinner.Everyone could bring a side dish like pasta salads or pototo salads things like that a pot of baked beans. You all get what I going with this LOL bring your oun stuff to grill and enough for about 8 or so since there is only about 12 or 14 peaple that have made reservations and coming.we could hang out at my camp site and set up a buffee on the picnic table and grill our dinner and sit around the camp fire and eat and drink and be merrie LOL.What do you all think of that??????.i know that is kind of late for throwing this out but it was an idea that I thought that everyone would like to do.Let me know here or you can e-mail me ?? OK well I'll see everyone down there it's only two weeks from now Bryon | |

| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/25/2008 1:17:55 PM | Hi all it seems to be unanimous with us all so far .About having a pot luck dinner afterwards the float. So I'm going to edit the front page of the thread and post it.So everyone can see what everyone is bringing OK.All you have to do is email me or just post it in one of the thread page's and I'll post it for you OK sounds good to everyone .So I'm going to make a my famous 4 bean salad not a three beean but 4 bean LOL | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/25/2008 1:27:12 PM | OK All of my fellow fishies I put the menu sign up just above the sign up list so everyone can find it OK | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/27/2008 1:51:12 PM | Ok so my reservation is in for three people but I think four are coming.......I'm going to need someone to show me how to steer the canoe since the lady there at Twin Bridges talked me into a canoe instead of the raft(I thought the raft would be easier) and less dangerous for me.......but she claims if I find someone with experience they can show me how to steer it and the river is running fast due to all the rain.......and my friend from work is bringing her boyfriend so that makes me the odd man(woman) out.......somehow I think if I fall out of a canoe it's hurt worse than a raft........and I'll end up swimmin with the fishies

| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/27/2008 2:04:23 PM | Don't worry GiGi there are plenty of people that can show you how to paddle and do a bit of steering too.You know that there are a couple of people looking for a paddlen partner. If not grap a chair and sit in the middle of the boat and let your friends do all the paddlin and steering LOL/Plus I can give everyone a crash course on how to do the paddling thing LOL. | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/27/2008 2:12:46 PM | you will not get hurt any worse if you fell out of a raft or a canoe .The river is not up that high. Its flowing 200cfs above the normal float rate. That breaks down to about 8 in.above adv.and for that river its nothing so don't worry about it.You have a blast any way plus it will go down by time we get there. | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/27/2008 11:17:42 PM | | If you decide to do a Meremac trip drop me a message. I like the Highway 8 to Therman Lake (hog trough) float. | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/29/2008 7:53:33 AM | I like that section of the Meremec too.But I would go down as far as Indian Springs | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/30/2008 3:18:21 AM | OK all of my fellow fish friends.I just checked out the river with the USGS and the weather. .The river is up slightly but not bad the normal flow rate is 850cfs and the river is flowing at the rate of 1000 cfs which is ideal. That works out to be about 6in.up from normal. And for the weather PERFECT PERFECT LOL the long term weather forcast is on Thurs is partly cloudy with the high of 81 and the low of 63 ideal sleeping temp.Friday is partly cloudy with the high of 81 with the low of 63 Agian PERFECT.And on Saturday it's SUNNY with the high of 81 with the low of 63 once more great sleeping temp. And on Sunday its SUNNY with the high of 83 with the low of 62.ONCE AGIAN PERFECT PERFECT. We couldn't ask for better weather than what is forcasted. The floating gods have blessed us with perfect floating weather | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/30/2008 6:10:52 AM | You cannot ask for a better float if the weather holds up, simply awesome! 6 more days!
I do have an open spot in my canoe if someone needs a partner, otherwise I can be the "canoe donkey", and haul extra gear upfront for my fellow floaters.
It feels good getting back to my old stomping grounds - Southern MO. I also look forward to meeting people from my home town - Springfield. See you down there.
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/30/2008 7:14:39 AM | Okay so now we're up to five people counting Bambino.......2 singles and 1 couple in car..........don't forget your party hats cause it's my birthday weekend and we are going to party.......I'm really excited since the leg is mostly healed up now.......I can walk just a slightly crooked since the knee isn't bending so well yet but it's getting there......We're coming down Friday morning so ya'll have been warned.... | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/30/2008 9:11:01 AM | Hi ya smokin since there are only 14 or so coming we are going to do a pot luck dinner saturday night. So if you want in bring a side dish for about 8 or so.At the begianing of the float thread just above the sign up list is what everyone is bringing. So if you want you could bring something to grill for your self and a side so far we don't have a potato salad or a macoronie salad.I'm going to ask at the office when I get down there on Thursday if we could use they're picnic shelter to eat at at grill our food. | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/30/2008 9:13:49 AM | I'm going to have to bring a cake for ya GiGi.I all ready have my party hat all warmed up and ready LOL. Hey smokin I tryed emailing ya about the pot luck dinner but you don't let guys email you LOL sorry about the last min.email.But you are not the only guy not taking email from guys LOL. | |
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/30/2008 8:01:22 PM |
I like that section of the Meremec too.But I would go down as far as Indian Springs That's a long float for one day. I like to head up Friday, float Saturady and party, then rest up Sunday before I head home. Floating all the way down to I S just wears me out too much. Must be getting old.
| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/31/2008 12:39:06 PM | I called Twin Bridges to compare the price of bringing my own kayak vs renting one of theirs. It's only $20 for them to haul mine back to the camp, and $30 to rent one of theirs. They only have sit-on-top kayaks.
Bryon, I'll bring the potato salad! I won't know until Thursday night or Friday if I'm camping or just driving up Saturday morning early for the float. I'm really looking forward to meeting all you POF'ers and partying with you.

| Canoe Trip Posted: 5/31/2008 1:19:26 PM | Hi Audrey Thanks for the potato salad that pretty much rounds out the pot luck dinner LOL.But I'm sure that there will be more people birnig stuff since I have not heard from everyone comeing. .Its only $20 dollars shuttle the kayaks COOL it's cheaper than most out fitters charge. The going rate around here in St.lou is $25 to $30 dollars for shuttle fee's.I know all about sit-apons I don't like them my self every time I would try to do a power stroke I felt like I was about to slide out LOL.I just never felt stable on one.So I think that is a good idea that your bringing your oun boat plus your used to i just like I'm used to my boat LOL. What kind of kayak do you have I have a 11 ft.perspion american rec.boat Well I hope that you can stay and camp with us but if you can't thats ok we'll miss ya any way LOL/ | |

| Beans and Ride on top Kayaks: An interesting combination Posted: 5/31/2008 3:32:51 PM | Hi all--this sounds like it's going to be an excellent trip! Did a 16 mile over Memorial Day on Oklahoma's Illinois River as a warm-up ride--can't wait to get back to the crystal clear streams of Missouri though.
Bryon, between your great tasting 4 bean salad and my super whiz-bang camp bean recipe, I suspect a few might have problems with the sit-on-top kayaks....not floating, mind you, just remaining on top of them. By the way, I had an unfortunate experience with ride on tops too--I wouldn't own one personally.
Okay, on to the main topic... Does anyone need to share a ride from the North Eastern Oklahoma, South-Western Missouri or North-Western Arkansas area? I'm leaving Tulsa Friday afternoon, taking 1-44 and through Springfield then over and back down to Twin Bridges Campground. I plan to arrive before dark Friday and leave sometime Sunday evening.
Currently I'm deciding whether to A.) Put the camper shell on, bring full cooking gear and drive the entire distance alone (4x4 gas mileage isn't pretty you know) or B.) Packing light and share a ride and fuel costs--providing someone is going from my area.
I'll tent if I share a ride. If extra room is needed I can bring my huge one--it's 19 x12 and accommodates eight comfortably.
