I think the broad above me has a lower back tatoo. Yes, they make people think about what that chick looks like in doggie style, and does put a negative first impression on that person (unless skanky chicks is what you're into)
I can see putting a tattoo on my butt if it were something funny like "Your name" or putting a little do not enter road sign, but it depends what the tattoo is. And if it is on his lower back and doesnt come around to make a WWE belt, well than that dude is just plain gay. | |

Posted: 1/8/2008 6:50:01 PM | Well Thank you all for the laughs and opinions. To those of you that mentioned "Did you even ask the guy himself" you obviously didn't read my original post very well. I do talk of asking him in there.
I don't care if he is gay or not I just found it bizarre as I do not know anbody personally with one and neither does my uncle's roommate's, cousin - and he knows many people!
I do not think less of him for his tattoo placement, I just don't want to worry that a guy I'm with might be swinging both ways! Good thing is I will never really find out! Stone me for caring!
Thanks again for the many laughs and insights to the opinionated or just freaking funny people that make up this site! Oh and for the curious his tattoo was of a celtic cross; not a do not enter sign, now that would have been awesome! | |

I have a tattoo on my left shoulder blade and about to get 1 on each arm. The one on my shoulder blade is a tattoo of a angel (long story). I do not want to forget her name... ever. The ones on my arms will be my kids. | |

I fail to see the connection with tattoo "near butt and gay." Maybe this guy doesn't want the world to view his tatt, maybe it means something to him on a personal level, maybe he doesn't want to be as society expects him to be. It's his body, and to make assumptions about a person as to why they have a tatt in a certain area is silly.....it's their body they can put a tatt on their peni* for all I care. | |

Posted: 1/27/2008 8:11:19 AM | I don't know why a guy would have a tattoo on his lower back. It would definitely make me curious as to why? I got one on mine because it is easy to cover with just about any style of clothing....and when I want to show it I show it.
I can say because of the reputation that surrounds lower back tattoo's I had to think long and hard before getting one. I finally decided at 28 to get one of the -Yin and Yang it also has text in it. The Chinese symbol that represents opposite forces of nature....light and darkness, good/evil, heaven and earth. The tattoo has a lot of meaning to me....it represents the spiritual opposites, the battle one has to endure living life and having the opportunity to make choices and the principles which oppose one another —health and sickness, wealth and poverty, power and submission, good/ evil.
Now I can't tell you how many times I've been asked what my tattoo means...I usually give them the short version of my lecture...lol....I usually say, "its the Chinese symbol yin-yang."
of course I get the occasion idiot that asks, " isn't that the 69 symbol.you into oral sex?"
Which brings me back to the stigma that surrounds lower back tattoo's.
You have to really be comfortable in your own skin and have high self esteem to get a tattoo in a spot that most people associate with "Tramp- Stamp". So If a man has a tattoo on his lower back, I would have to ask him why? I like to think of myself as very open minded and even I would ask ...why? Who's looking at your ass long enough to fully appreciate your lower back tattoo?
anyhow,
The really great tattoo artists advise you on the art. They don't go around inking people just for the hell of it. So if this guy you dated had one on his lower back, I'm sure he had to have a second thought at one point....I would like to think he considered the stigma that comes with tattoo's and I am almost positive his artist asked him
"dude are you sure "? A few times before inking him with a tattoo that is sure to get him some pretty fancy labels."

I own two pink shirts, a raspberry shirt, and a peach colored shirt. I also have a pierced ear.

So sad, you talk about respect for woman and negative first impressions in the same sentence that you use the term broad. Here is the real issue - if you meet a woman AND you see the lower back tattoo immediately then she is dressed in low rise jeans and a shorter style top to allow that sight - So I ask you if to woman one with a tattoo dressed conservatively no ink exposed and another non tattooed dressed in the above manner which would you assume to be the skank? --- btw the correct answer is NEITHER - until you speak to the women you have no idea about them - appearance means nothing in the sexual proclivity area
For the man with a lower back tattoo several things would pop into my mind
* it is the beginning of a back piece that is able to stand alone for the time until he can get the rest
* possible hiding a scar or birthmark that he didn't like
* an area that is considered less fatty therefore less painful (btw - wrong - it was my most painful tattoo)
* An area not commonly exposed on men and he wanted a tattoo that could be hidden as needed for whatever reason
Gay would never have crossed my mind unless it was a butterfly holding a pink triangle with the words to macho man under then - then I might question sexual orientation - otherwise it is just ink | |

Posted: 1/27/2008 11:48:08 AM | Men have been getting tattoos on their backs, in various places for many a year, its only been in the last decade or so that more women go under the needle purely for a fashion statement, the lower back being a main target because it is easy to show off with a backless dress etc.
Having a tattoo on your lower back doesnt mean you are gay, as already said its your body, where you choose to have it is up to you.
