| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 1/11/2008 7:33:29 AM | Yes, I do enjoy what I do for a living! I have worked a variety of jobs in my life and I have enjoyed them all. I wouldn't last in a job if it didn't bring me satisfaction.

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 1/13/2008 12:57:12 AM | at the age of 34, i sold out my consulting firm that had ranged in full time employees up to 20 professionals at its peak, and also engaged a variety of subcontractors. during the course of it all--we had managed to develop a national client base and became quite a thorn in the butts of huge international competitors. after i sold my majority shares and gave up my presidency, i took my regional client base and operated "eccentrically" from home--worked hard for that right and reputation. i did take one short term director position and one short term vp position, to help clean up two organizations in dire trouble during that time period.
in my late forties, i collapsed and it took several years to come to my "accurate" diagnosis of late stage lymes disease. so, at age 50, i finally adopted my kids--something i wanted to do since i was five years old!
i loved what my work accomplished--in particular when we played robin hood and did huge contracts in inner city and rural poor areas. however, that work was hard and grueling and at times, many of us thought we would totally "lose it". each time, we plowed through the political and technical muck, and each time we accomplished something we were very proud of doing. one project continued intermittently for almost a decade, but today it stands and it stands "solid". many projects were predicted as "impossible". we actually contributed to changing govt. policy and regulations to make several of our projects actually work.
somtimes work is very hard. but so is raising teenagers at the age of 50 and while "disabled". in fact, being a parent is probably the hardest because you get so much flack and lack of appreciation from teens. but, if you believe in what you do and your heart and soul are in it--somehow you can plough through the bad times, because you can truly see the light at the end of the tunnel. other times, in total darkness, you have to believe.
some people work to put bread on the table and do their service or live their social lives outside the workplace. for me, my personal and social life was tied to my career and i loved it. becoming disabled and moving across the country with my "then" second husband was very difficult and it took me a good five years to be able to answer the question "what do you DO?". my nyc sense of humor did not work in CA and i was at a total loss.
but you know what? i've lived such a full and rich and rewarding life, alongside times of great pain and challenge. to me that is what life is about: learning one's lessons for spiritual growth and also serving the planet. my eldest and i hope that some time soon, we can write a book. so many people have urged me to do so and i truly hope i get to do it soon. but first, i have some major challenges ahead of me. many pof buddies have helped me through and i thank them and urge all of you to pursue your dreams and make this a better planet--whether in your workplace or in the overall course of life.

That's sad. You should refer to your previous comment of "these types of people just don't have any dreams of their own or even have a life outside of work", and maybe rethink about who has it better, "those types" or someone like you who sadly has to run to a job you don't enjoy to escape your life which apparently is even worse.
Bitter? Nope.
Alot of people DO fall into that "job" trap. That place that they are never happy and they always blame it on the job. At that point, is it really the job? Or maybe just the life? Maybe it is the job but anyone can always do something about it.
I like to find new ways to be employed that will sustain my way of life. It's not that hard. Actually I enjoy my job very much. I just have no time left to conform. I certainly do not dislike my life. My life is what I love.
Plain and simple, my job is for living my life the way that I believe it needs to be lived. No more, no less. I'm not going to sit around and try to find some kind of job that makes me happy when my life makes me happy!
Those that have it "better" or "worse"? How should I know how good or bad someones job is? I only know that work/jobs SUCK!!! I mean really, who the hell would 'choose' to work any job if you could choose to do what you love? What would a person put up with for three days a week to live a life that they themselves found rewarding?
You also clearly don't understand the meaning of "Work to live, don't live to work."
Hmmmm.... No, I think I do. I do work for one reason only... To live. I don't wake up in the morning thinking about what I have to do for someone else. I wake up in the morning thinking about what I have to do to make my life a better place for me. Then I go and do whatever it takes to make that first thought a reality.
[qote]I went into my job* for the money since there was a demand and I was good at it. I happened to luck out and ended up loving it.
*I'm an interpreter.
Ok, thats fanfriggintastic!! It seems like your great at it, you love it, then your gold. Go for it!
So sorry to those of you that didn't understand what I was saying and then tell me that I am bitter? All I can say, is I stand by original assessment. The vast majority do not need to understand boats. It's just too much.
I was forced to spend the last three days at my life stoking the heater, drinking beer, reading the new Lats&Ats, and working on the new table. How am I ever going to survive, LOL. It's always better than work.

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 1/14/2008 12:31:32 PM | I am an OTR trucking company owner, and I drive as well. I absolutely LOVE what I do. Every job has its ups and downs, but it sure does make the day a whole lot more enjoyable, if you are getting paid to do something you enjoy doing.
I love being my own boss, teaching others, the stressful times, and the time to enjoy my own company... Alone...
I've wandered through a lot of different occupations, mostly in management or as a business owner, and finally found something that I don't think I will EVER leave!!!

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 1/14/2008 2:29:56 PM | | I have almost always worked in a capacity where we help people with one specific issue or another. I like that part of my job. It makes me feel that we do something worthwhile. It's listening to people b**** (especially when they have bad information and are complaining about something that isn't even true) that causes me me to sometimes think I hate my job. | |

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 1/14/2008 4:27:28 PM | | Helping people is got to be an awsome job. When you know that what your doing for the person or family will help them out then it's all worth it. I am representing a company that is all about helping people and families. I love what I do and what this company does for my clients and the companie's representives. The one thing about what I do is I help people and thier families become self relient so they won't ever have to depend on the government for any of thier needs. Let's face it the government is not out to help anyone. We need to become self relient and when it is time to sit back and enjoy life one can do it without any worries. Everone who is 50 or older most have Long Term Care Insurance so they won't have to depend on the government to pay for some one to take care of them and those that your taking care of had this insurance then you wouldn't have to worry about someone takeing care of them for only part time. The bottom line is the government is not the person I want taking care of me or my money. | |

Posted: 1/14/2008 5:21:09 PM | | I'm self employed and i love it because i make great money and i'm not over-worked under appreciated etc. It's great because although post-college workin an entry-level position for some corporation COULD provide for career advancement, i'd still feel my potential would be going to waste.

i love my job.... even after 2 1/2 years
I think the real test will be whether you love your job after 20 years. I love my job, I couldn't imagine doing anything else for a living.

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 1/15/2008 3:31:23 AM | i love what i do for a living even though it is slightly underpaid, the job satisfaction is great and it has better perks than almost any job out there!!! | |

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 6/12/2008 6:37:09 PM | I love love LOVE what I do ... even as many in my community think I'm crazy to have taken this path that I've chosen ...
I do many things as I am a jack - of - all - trades ... but make my primary living as a holistic healer and practice as a licensed massage therapist and Reikki Master ... instead of working at an office or clinic in one location, I travel around the country and do body work for people at music festivals and special events. I've placed my healing hands on literally thousands of people over the course of the last twelve years ... worked on a lot of famous musicians ... as well as a whole lot of regular folks ... my path allows me to attend 30 + events a year, see and hear an incredible amount of live music, travel extensively, be outdoors in some amazing locations, surround myself with happy people, get my groove on and be a proactive part of helping people feel better and manage their pain ... when I'm not on the road, I'm able to totally enjoy my time at the house, focus on catching up on chores and don't worry about having to get a real job ... it is rewarding on so many different levels.
Prior to following this path, I worked for a major oil company ... worked in every facet of the oil business ... most of that time was spent on an oil rig in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico doing life at hard labor ... it was an extreme job and some of the experiences I lived through literally blow my mind when I reflect on that time in my life ... but I loved it and the pay was great! That job allowed me to learn and value the rewards of hard work and provided me with the opportunity to invest in my future and put myself in a position where I didn't have to sell my soul too THE MAN for the rest of my life ... I knew when I was hired that it was a short term career choice ... though I did it for fifteen years ... and it also allowed me the chance to live the life I am presently living ... I make far less money now than I did while working for Big Oil but my life in the present moment is fantastic and I'm fortunate enough to be living a dream ... and I'm doing things on MY TERMS.

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 6/12/2008 7:05:20 PM | I also LOVE what I do! I'm self-employed and making good money. It was a b!tch to start off with, not knowing if I was going to make it or not, but after 8 years, I'm where I've always wanted to be! Hard work and some risks will pay off if you want it bad enough!

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 6/12/2008 7:10:26 PM | What I do for a living is also what I often do in my spare time for fun. The skills necessary for my job are something I enjoy practicing and perfecting.
Sometimes I really like my job, and sometimes not. The part of my job I do not like are when things happen that keep me from doing my job properly. But when I can do my job properly...I'm a kid in a candy store.

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 6/13/2008 1:37:15 PM | I love my job..... I had to work very hard physically to get it, somedays so much pain that I'd grit my teeth and just let the tears come and keep on working at it (no stopping or giving up), to meet the physical challenge of it. Put every bit of my heart and soul into making it through the schooling....... That was almost 10 yrs ago and I hope to make it another 10. Dreams | |

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 6/13/2008 6:13:50 PM | I stumbled into my job sort of by accident: after ten years driving a city bus -with the great pay and benefits- I did a career change and started selling Real Estate. I did alright for the first year and a half; then I needed to find some part time work to supplement my income, as the R.E. market started drying up...since I still had my CDL (and a decade of bus driving experience) I applied for a job driving a motorcoach...I ended up liking it so much, I gave up doing Real Estate! I know now that I've found my calling; this is the first time I've ever had a job where I look forward to going to work every day. I know, too, this is what I'll be doing until I retire, despite the fact that I make exactly half as much per hour as I did as a Transit driver; and the company I work for has been incredibly accommodating: when they offered me a full-time position, I told them they had to work with me on giving me the time off I needed to be involved in football, both playing and coaching; their response? "No Problem!" I can't stress it enough: if you can, find work you enjoy doing! The money will follow-and if it doesn't, remember: no amount of $$ will buy fulfillment. | |

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 6/14/2008 8:44:17 AM | I LOVE my job! The kind of work I do tends to be addictive -- and I am addicted for sure! It has a lot in common with video games -- a constant overstimulating thrill ride that culminates when I (almost) always win.
Best perks -- NO commute! NO office bullies, NO abusive boss! NO dress code! 40 week work year! I can do my job from virtually anywhere in the world. I work at home -- but can even do my job with my PDA while I am out partying, traveling and having a good time! I can even make $$$ while I am asleep.
It's a good job for those who like to learn as things constantly change -- every day is a whole new world and it's up to me to figure out what to do in it.
A of the time it's like one big ATM machine --- and all I have to do is sit around and suck $$$ out of the universe!!
Lucky ME -- I've finally found my niche!

| Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Posted: 6/14/2008 11:57:30 AM | I sure do enjoy what I do for a living. I have a career in which I basically operate without a boss. My day is never the same from day to day and I am never bored. I get plenty of fresh air and exercise and I get to meet hundreds of different people each and every day. Sure, it is a LOT of hard work and it sure does take it's toll on me physically as most days I come home absolutely exhausted, but even if I have a crap day I never, ever, bring that home with me.
Oh and it helps that I get paid a handsome sum to do what I do. Next time you see a UPS person at your door ask him/her what they make. You'll be surprised.
