Obama has a reason to be doing this that Hillary does not.
As a black man in a white man's world, Obama needs to live a bi-cultural existence.
All people who are aware of this fact (especially black supporters who live this way themselves) know that he still cares for his pastor, but is just doing what it takes to be able to do something greater for the country rather than just sticking to his guns on something that doesn't matter (sound like the opposite of a certain president we might know right now?).
I personally think white Americans need to take the time to actively learn about the myriad cultures in their country that make it more than just a hick paradise. It's because of these other ethnic groups intermingling and culturally exchanging ideas on the coasts of our country that those coastal communities tend to have richer cultural heritage than just "the biggest ball of yarn in the world."
I currently take a class on African-American Culture, so I've been learning about the reasons behind Obama's actions as they happen. The way Reverent Wright preaches is part of his own cultural heritage, and not his preassumed personal interest in anti-American propaganda, or some such crap.
It is not likely that AIDS was introduced intentionally into Afraca, but it is known that it was a vaccine that was too strong for the body to counter, and that white doctors went into Africa to test it on communities there. So whether it was intentional or not, it did happen.
Wright's problem is that he does not feel like he should be forced to continue his bi-cultural existence. He is bringing the world of his people into the limelight, and the people who are now seeing it are experiencing a culture shock of the worst possible kind, and at the worst possible time.
That is why no one is leaving him alone. It's because they're pandering to his ego, trying to get him to dig holes for Obama since Obama is never going to fall for the kind of tricks that the Right pulls on people.
Anyway, I do think that Obama did the right thing by denouncing his pastor publicly. However, I think Reverend Wright is really going to get in more trouble than he realizes if he is responsible for Obama's possible defeat. If that ends up being the case, then Wright is going to lose more than Obama from his congregation, I'll tell you that right now.

So in essence, Reverend Wright is only telling his congregation what he believes they want to hear, and not what he believes? A lemming's lemming?
I'm still trying to get over his multimillion dollar mansion in a white man's golf course neighborhood, far and away from his 'own people'.

Posted: 5/1/2008 10:12:18 AM | ^^^ There's a theory that goes basically along the lines of an intended vaccine, I think it was polio but I'm not sure, essentially (inadvertently) caused the initial spread of the HIV down in remote parts of equatorial Africa because it was given in large amounts to the people on a rather "experimental"-type basis when it obviously shouldn't have been. The book "The River" by Edward Hooper pretty thoroughly fleshes this whole theory out with a lot of facts, etc. I personally don't subscribe to that theory on it; I go with the more "mainstream" ( I guess) theory that it basically "jumped species" from chimps to humans (via the bush hunters probably), the bloodshed involved in the butchering of chimps, possibly the eating of infected and not properly-cooked chimp meat, etc, probably down around what is today Cameroon , or thereabouts, and possibly as early as the 1940's or 50's or so. Maybe even a bit earlier than that. No one knows when exactly the "jump" occurred. Today I believe they have determined however that it was in Haiti as early as the mid-1960's (guest workers straight from Africa or Haitians who'd worked in equatorial Africa and then returned home) and one or possibly more Haitian immigrants had died of AIDS in NYC far before the first illnesses and deaths began occurring in the gay communities in the very early 80's.

I meant to say, racial-ethnic-generational zeitgeist.
He grew up in a culture where the White Man was out to get you and it wasn't a lie.
He lives in a world where people look to him for a connection to their past, and from that comes ego, hence the big house in the fancy neighborhood (and trust me, he's not the first black man to do that).
He also is trying to hold true to his integrity at a time that is inopportune for his ex-member, (EDIT: Senator) Obama.
I think the effect of the AIDS vaccine was unintentional, but I do think it was a vaccine, if only because the "bushmen jump" theory is not only vague but also nearly impossible to prove, thus leaving it open to the appeal to ignorance fallacy.
All of this is my observation and my opinion on that observation. I am no more qualified to state this as fact (nor do I presume to do so) than I am qualified to state that I am a woman of extraterrestrial descent from the future.
Do a background check and you'll find that it checks out. I'm native. :-P

Posted: 5/4/2008 12:08:45 PM | Well... I grew up in that same culture and couple of years back found out first hand that the culture is still in America in the SOP of small town police forces who haven't figured out this isn't the 50's.
Anywho... fascinating stuff about AIDS. I remember when the accusation of the CIA selling crack to support the Contra's came out... during that time period that was mentioned I remember not being able to find pot on the streets for a month or so while crack was on every street corner. It was a horrible time for me since I was in my late teens and really liked pot. The crack sales in my south central neighborhood were so much that the neighborhood kids were always very courteous to me as I walked to work... "Are you alright?", they'd always ask me... "do you need anything?"
Amid this backdrop several black preachers started cursing the police force, the city government run by Uncle Tom Bradley (LA's black mayor for many years) (What self respecting black family names their son "Tom"?) and the dealers and users of crack cocaine. In the mean time... alot of aspiring recording artists were busy working on what they hoped would be the next big rap album.
Yeah... rap, crack and the younger generation... at least that's what the St Louis police chief said made St Louis the murder capitol for 2006. But I digress...
Sure their are evil people who pull off cunning devices that in many ways require bad choices by those targetted. In a way it seems to even out... | |

The people deciding that cultural identity for many black men is not a group who is in fact black.
These people are the executives of Clear Channel, and the all-white editorial staff for magazines like Source, who are making a culture, nay, a generation of black men who believe that the most important things in the world are sex, money, and showing both off.
It does a few things. It makes black males easy targets for white police officers (like those in St. Louis, one of the most racist communities in the U.S.), and makes it harder for blacks to be accepted in the job market or among most normal Americans.
There is a lot of bad sh*t going on that no one knows about.
There is also a way out of it that no one is being told about.
Blacks simply need to find a conduit for self-expression that will reach the masses without using white-run channels, and they must hold fast to their control of the conduit they have found without ever giving in to executives trying to buy them off and close the openings again.
It's all happening, folks. In all of history, fact is stranger than fiction.

Carbon which is the most rationed element "black" This element is found in all living matter. Carbon atoms linked togther form "Black melanin!" Which is the chemical that causes pigmentation. So maybe if you turn your self inside out, you may find a little blackness there.lol. On the topic of Obama, the man is half white! Shit Clinton is half black too.hahaha. I know why you wrote that... but you cannot be totally out of the loop on why we here in the USA are experiencing this. For one you cannot take a portion of the population to task when they are the descendents of slaves... tell me a nation where this has happened before that we have like we do in our history. Had interracial marriage been more wide spread we might have already gotten past this but the truth is that bad religious teaching like black being evil and white being good have been not only a part of our culture and main religion... but they have been subliminal references and points of opposition in are collective psyche.
I know whay you wrote what you wrote... you're tired of being blamed for something you have no control over and I don't blame you for feeling put upon should you happen to use some cliche' catch phrase that makes someone call you a racist. But your anger and the set of cliche' sentiments you are using in your rant are understandable. But it always did fascinate me when folks get angry about folks being angry about the issue of race in America. We cannot fake colorblindness anymore... the solution to the problem of continued racial profiling and racist organizations in America lies in exposing them and irradicating them. It always did fascinate me how there are so many blantantly white racist organizations opperating with impunity and yet when an idiological black racist organization starts to rise it is disbanded before you can whistle dixie.
No... colorblind idealism will not stop the lynch mobs from forming up again in this country. But aggressive research, planning and action will. Only then will the chickens find no home to come home and roost in. | |

My responce came from the jerk, who used the word "coloured." To describe people of color. coloured is past tence, we are not a past tence, people nor are negro, or Afro,which means backward. Understand these names were given by slaves holders, in 1779. We are in a new area of time now, and are reclaiming are God and religion/culture. We are no longer alseep! We are a people that have been stripped of everything, which has made us blind deaf and dumb. So, now that we are aware to the way's of the world, are able to build on all levels. We are able to love now instead of hate, first we most learn how to love are self. Are worst enemy is"self." People tell me all the time that they love God, or Allah. Which they say cant be seen. However they hate the man that's right next to him, because of colors(red and blue) or so called classism. The european tricked the natives, and my ancestors. He gave the natives small pox in blankets. He told my ancestors that they would recieve more gold, and that he was taking them to this promise land. We fell for these tricks years ago, and we are still falling for the same tricks today. We have people of all colors in postions of power, that sit back and do nothing for social eqauality, because they are waiting for more Gold. We have people that sit up in church, that speak about that "sweet by and by" That know one will see untill they die. While the preachers know that know man has returned from the grave and told the living of any sweet by and by. But, this is believed by the people! We have been snared by falsehood, and we told to just have faith... How can you free the slaves, who were never to be citizens then put them right back into slavery 13th and 14th amendments. I am tired of people blaming color when in this day and age it has nothing to do with color but everything to do with power. It doesnt matter what color you are but if your in power it seems in this day and age people keep that power at the expense of others. I am tired of people who talk a good game but when they get elected only token change is made but its still pretty much the same old deal.
As a former military man I was praying for General Powel to step up to the plate and run for president hopefully as a independent, but he was set up for failure because those in power fear losing that power. Anyone who does get elected wont making things drasticly different, and we need drastic change.
I am tired of being told that I owe people an appology to people I didnt even know or subjugate. I am tired of people focusing on the past at the expense of the current slave trade going on NOW. I am tired of people selling out thier own race literaly. Living in a border area working in the enviornment i do I see a lot of truely evil things that nobody in power seems to truly care about. Children being sold, kidnappings for ransoms the families could never pay, the border slave trade that IS institutional slavery. I am tired of employers hireing illegals at slave wages then for publicity call border enforcement so they wont have to pay the rest of the wages, I am tired of them not being sent to prison. I am tired of a hell of alot of things because nothing will change, People are so focused on the past that they are neglecting the evil before thier own eyes, and it sickens me. I am tired. | |
