| How long does it take for you to get over your ex? Posted: 1/23/2008 8:37:27 PM | | You made your decision based on reasons that were important enough to you at the time to do so. "How much time" is only a small part of the equation, and that is different for most as you can see in the posts. Good luck. | |

You dumped this guy but you're akin to stalking him. Sounds like you were frustrated because you couldn't get control of him. Or, maybe you have rules and principles and he didn't adhere to those. Whatever the case, you ended it and the one word I use a lot keeps creeping into my head..."CLOSURE"... you obviously feel guilt or some type of responsibility or loss in some form. Sounds like you need to play back exactly why you left him. I know it certainly makes me feel much better when I remember all the stressful things that were going on which led up to my ex- leaving me rather than remembering just the good parts and good times we had together.

Focus on yourself and what you want in the future. Live a single live without dating for a while because you need time to heal. If he calls you, ignore his calls, throw out the messages. I know it sounds mean but it's in good purpose, you have to heal yourself, move on and learn things from your previous relationship to better yourself.
As for me a good 7 months helped me. Now I just focus on myself and what I want out of my life without validation from anyone but myself. I learn about myself going thru the healing process and changing in many ways people would thought I'd never behave.

| How long does it take for you to get over your ex? Posted: 1/24/2008 7:52:30 AM | | How long does it take to get over an ex? 5 minutes. In Chinese Astrology, I'm the sign of the Rooster. We can bounce back from the ruins of bankruptsy, broken hearts, many unfavorable set backs. My life isn't ruled by Chinese astrology, but there is some truth to the personalities. I'm lucky in that regard. Are you a snake man? Stay away from me...your very jealous, insecure, highly materialistic. Also, you take forever to get over a broken heart. Don't believe me? Read up on yourself. | |

| How long does it take for you to get over your ex? Posted: 1/28/2008 9:18:46 PM | I was with this lady for over 7 years. When we split, I took this stupid little casset tape we did together. It was jokes, singing together, little verbal notes and such. I was so compulsive with her, the only way I could stay away and out of involvement with her was to move across country. I would check my emotional state by listening to the tape. The first few times were pretty tough and couldn't listen all the way through without becoming emotional. Every few months, I would try it again and in time, there were no longer emotions attached and I felt free. It took about a year and a half. I didn't trow the tape away or destroy it. I simply lost track of it. 6 months is a really short time to get to know someone well but, for what it's worth, it will take as long as it takes to get over it. | |

I would agree that calling to just be friends isn't a good idea, my experience is it never works out that way. You will know when it has been enough time when you don't compare others to him in any way, shape or form.

| How long does it take for you to get over your ex? Posted: 1/28/2008 9:40:15 PM | | I was reading through other's advice, and thought yeah right! Easier said than done! If you want to look at his profile once in a while its ok. If you feel like calling to say lets stay friends go for it. I dont see anything wrong with having a little bit of contact. Just dont meet in person until you are really over him, because all of your old feelings will come back and take over! If its only been a week, you have a long way to go. Start small. Every week try to look at his profile less and less. Try to stay busy and surround yourself with friends. Its going to take a lot longer than a week. I think the basic saying is it takes half the time you were together. I guess it depends on if you were in love and how connected you two were. I wish you luck, and just know that it didnt work with him so that it CAN work with someone else! | |

| How long does it take for you to get over your ex? Posted: 1/28/2008 9:58:27 PM | | It took a while! I had an extremely deep relationship and it took a LONG time to fully get over my ex. If it was a profound connection I don't think you can ever disassociate yourself from the memories. I remember I really felt like my first gf was like my second half, so it took over a year to fully heal, even though I initiated the breakup. | |

If there was cheating or such by 'the other', 'getting over' will not take near as long. If (the break-up) reason was other than cheating; abuse or such & things 'just didnt work out', it will take longer. Its easy to say but you need to involve yourself with new activities for the next 3-4-5 weeks. No need to go spend $ :) just get involved with another type of workout - take a karate lesson(s) etc. I've heard this can (and has) worked for a # of friends. :)

| How long does it take for you to get over your ex? Posted: 1/29/2008 5:32:20 AM | Well... it's all been said, pretty much. It's different for everyone, only you can know for sure, find things to do that take your mind off the pain, staying in contact with him is probably not a good idea because it just makes you backtrack, etc.
My point is this: DON'T DATE OTHER GUYS until you know you're over him! Unless they are just "breakup buddies" who are fully aware of your situation before you make the dates, then you are only treating them like sh!t and just extending your pain out to other people. Wouldn't it be a real shame if you were to do this to someone who you might actually be able to have a good relationship with, once you're healed...? Chances are, he'd move on and never trust you again.
Treat others the way you want them to treat you!
Remember, you WILL get over this... it's like breaking a leg or catching a bad flu... you have to take the time to heal.

| How long does it take for you to get over your ex? Posted: 1/29/2008 5:39:38 AM | They say it takes the amount of time you were in the relationship to get over them. 6 mos relationship...6 mos to get over them.
Ugh...I still have like a year to go on my last major relationship.
