| where have the old fashioned values gone Posted: 1/16/2008 1:21:58 PM | I don't remember anyone saying anything about time traveling ... The OP choose the phrase "old fashioned values" as term for a more conservative moral code or ethics, but no where has anyone stated that they wish it was the year 1810 or whatever. There is no need for a history lesson here.
Is the sexually liberal viewpoint that everyone should do whatever they want whenever they want -- unless you happen to have a more conservative outlook? That doesn't sound very liberal or logical to me.

| where have the old fashioned values gone Posted: 1/16/2008 1:42:34 PM | The good old fashioned values are here, right in front of you and they always have been. Sometimes it is easy for us to focus on the negative things that happen to us, to the unjustices, after all is it not through suffering that we are most easily awakened from our comfort zone? I am certain that each of you meet amazing, kind and generous people all the time and though you appreciate them they are not the one's that stand out. If I may suggest, don't worry about the people who have lost their way or may not realize the impact their naive actions have on others. You don't know what kind of tribulations their life's vicissitudes have wrought on them and they, like many of us, do not know how to express themselves properly. So let them be responsible for their own happiness as you are responsible for your own... be resilient against the storms and shine regardless. After all, isn't the sun always shining on the inside? | |

" where have the old fashioned values gone "
Back to the "old-fashioned" imaginary pond where they came from.
Name one single point in human history (recent or otherwise) when there haven't been scads of depraved, immoral, twisted people making life miserable for others. Oh, yes-- and sexually promiscuous people, too (since that seems to be what most folks want to focus upon).
Not that there haven't been plenty of good people around as well... but that's not the point of the thread, is it?
Since "old fashioned values" seems to be equated to "conservative, religious values" by many who use the term seriously... all I can say is this:
Whatever happened to "thou shalt not kill"?

| where have the old fashioned values gone Posted: 1/16/2008 3:06:14 PM | they went for many reasons:
the 60's brought about "free love", partially caused by drug induced ingorance and partially caused as a rebellion to righteous preachings from the over 30 generation
women's lib had a good side and a bad side, some took the license to be free in the wrong ways. men and women's attitudes changed, one could argue which came first chicken or egg.
too many divorces and the negative side effects have taught men and women to hesitate marriage but still want intimacy.
values have changed for thousands of years and we're just seeing a phase
women no longer need to be cared for and men's attitude/chivalry has faded.

| where have the old fashioned values gone Posted: 1/16/2008 3:15:10 PM | Today i have to admit alot of the younger generation do think a relationship is all about sex and that its the number one thing, and alot of young people these days do not have morals but I as a 19 year have to say there are some people who were raised the right way and do have morals, i for one am one of them and do no a number of people who are the same. A large amount of people do think sex is number one and for those people on this site may i ask what sort of thrill you get out of this? Do you not find sex is better and more special when you know the person and know it will last. | |

Do you not find sex is better and more special when you know the person and know it will last.
for you young kids who are looking for marriage, I say wait and keep it special.
as you get older you'll appreciate 'half-assed' sex is better than no sex, one notch above masturbation and one notch below a relationship sex.

| where have the old fashioned values gone Posted: 1/16/2008 3:58:24 PM | | 20-33% of puritans were pregnant when they got married. The puritans as a society are the oldest and the one with the most values. This good ol days you are referring to never existed. People just hid it more then. I personally like it better this way.........at least I dont have to worry about a shotgun wedding now. | |
