why not a brown grocery bag

I used to use brown grocery bags for cooking until all the recycling made them unsafe. From a food and nutrition site:

Cooking in a Paper Grocery Bag
Paper grocery bags should not be used as cooking containers for the following reasons:

These bags are not made for cooking and may not be sanitary.
Glue and ink used on the bag are not approved for contact with food and may give off fumes when heated or leach into the food.
The bag may catch on fire.
Many grocery bags are recycled and may contain traces of lead which is toxic
Do not use a paper grocery bag for cooking caramel corn in either a microwave or regular oven.

Tonight, I had wild rice pilaf and chopped steak and a glass of Barringers 2006 Zin--yum.

I went to the grocery store when I was really hungry, saw the KK doughnuts and just had to have them. something about the glaze, and memories of being young and carefree and going to KK after partying on weekend nights when I was living in Atlanta....those were great days.

I would recon to say that it's not any speech nazi's. When I saw his post alluding to the fact that he had multiple profiles I winced. Not that he was or was joking about it but FYI that is a cardinal sin around these here parts.

Tried smiling salmons brown bag chicken. BURP Goooooodd eatin. The chicken was good too . Guess I sounded like a dork. Actually I'm proud my boys can cook and (barely) clean. Oh yes be CAREFUL of the steam when you open the brown bag. My left cheeckbone was the center of the burn and it is about 4" diameter. I can be a genius sometimes I swear !

Naughty! Cookies for supper HECK YEAH

Made a saute' of yellow and green zuccinni, onion, garlic and basil and a bit of red pepper flakes, add in a ring of smoked sausage sliced bite size, and an olive oil and butter sauce over rice.

One of my many "quasi"-adopted daughters, Anne, was over for dinner. Not much of a cook herself, and her father is a poor cook by her admission, She had 3'rds. No better compliment than that.

I decided to stay home instead of going to see the fireworks for Canada Day. I'll watch them from my balcony.

Ordered in chinese food with a Yorkie Bar for dessert.

LOLOL Acert huh??? 2 skinny skewers??? I am losing my breath laughing.

Naughti, what happened to him? I don't get the skinny skewers out of the bottom of a big chicken LOLOL Does this have anything to do with cat????

Been out on the lake all day, drove there and back with the top down, which I haven't gotten to do for more than a few minutes in a day since once or twice last year. It didn't rain today. I don't know what I am going home to eat, but hmmm something. We had raw vegies and a feta olive pasta salad, that's all today, so I am kind of hungry.

Yesterday I made some of the peoples recipes in here. The tilapia in coconut milk, lime, chiles, garlic and I added lemongrass and nutmeg. It was good, but I think it still needed something, a bit plain for me. I think tumeric may have done the trick. I also fried some eggplant and made some roasted asparagus.

To be honest, nothing but some sweet cream ice cream with fresh berries and some pound cake cubes mixed in sounds just fine to me. I took that to the lake today and didn't eat any, now I want it LOL figures.

I'm guessing you're adding egg or some kind of liquid to your meat, just guessing.
If you"d like to make a really good meat loaf here's how. Simply add your seasoning,
chopped green bellpeppers. chopped onions , mix well with your ground beef. Cook
until ready. Guaranteed not to fall apart. After meatloaf is done, pour tomatoe sauce,
cover with cheese or what ever you like on top, cook a few moments longer...

She's backkkkkkkkkkk...hey all...I haven't posted in awhile since it was my birthday weekend...beginning with my ACTUAL birthday on Friday, June 27th. In case you were ALL wondering...the same day as Helen Keller and Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keesham)....gives you an idea of my personality..lol

So...I'll backtrack and start with Friday. I opted to stay home and cook. I made my favorite rack of lamb, roasted fingerling potatoes and steamed green beans with a glass of La Crema Pinot Noir. I drove my daughter and her friend to the movies where my daughter (all of 14) opted to pay for us for the movies. How sweet..so I sprung for the popcorn combos. Saw the movie "Don't Mess With The Zohan" ...Adam Sandler...hysterical. I was laughing so hard that no sound was coming out. Guess I needed a good laugh.

Saturday, my friends took me to a wine tasting and all-u-can eat Sushi. That was fun. And then on Sunday, went with an old friend to the movies and a hamburger and fries dinner.

Thank you to those that wished me a HAPPY BIRTHDAY...especially to Naughty, Smiling Salmon and Nomad..wherever he may be. (Where are you?)

If I missed anyone, very sorry. My mom had back surgery, a few complications from an adverse reaction to some meds, but she is home now and recovering nicely.

Remember all...to be grateful for what you have and not wish for what our neighbor has as sometimes, someone else's misery is far worse than our own.

Peace and Love to all...~~Beth~~ xoxo

Can't decide...making a late lunch. It will either be a grilled cheese with cheshire and mushrooms. Or a veal parm sandwich.

Garrison Keillor??? I am a HUGE fan of Garrison Keillor. His voice makes me sooooooo mellow. I kept thinking when the movie came out that the show was cancelled, but I guess it was just a movie. Since I live so close, one day I have to visit Lake Wobegone. The movie was great by the way and the best possible pick of actors.

I am working tonight, so I had a sandwich, Italian with all the decadent Italian cold cuts, provolone, Italian dressing, peppers, tomato, onion etc... and my regular customer brought me choc ice cream as usual. What a sweetie he is.

Bethy, glad your mom is ok and I am glad your birthday was fun! WB

Cookingincalgary: Yep...your birthday is right around the corner, two days after our Nation's birthday. I looked up Dalai Lama to find that out and actually...you share a birthday with a lot of famous people. Just to name a few: Merv Griffin, Nancy Reagan, Sylvester Stallone and George W. Bush. What an interesting party that would be.
I plan on trying your veal cutlet recipe for dinner tomorrow night, sounds delicious.

Beth: Glad to see you back on here and glad to hear you had a good birthday.

Dinner tonight was just the other half of my sub sandwich from last night.

Hey all..

For those that aren't aware, we are in "Hurricane Season" here in FLORIDA ...from June 1st until November 1st....so I've been cleaning out my deep freeze in the garage so that I have space for bags of ice as well as not having to throw out a lot of unused and spoiled food in case the power goes out. **One hurricane, Wilma, I believe, put me in the dark for over a week. While it was romantic and cozy with candles burning at night, it was very uncomfortable with the heat, to say the least.

Okay..which leads me to the lovely 4.31 lb brisket (first cut, of course) that I made last night with Lipton onion soup mix (1 pkg), and a can of whole berries cranberry sauce. ( I used a Publix brand, but Ocean Spray or other brand is fine too) Mixed this together and shmeared it all over the brisket, added a touch of water..not much as this makes a fine amount of gravy. I covered with foil tightly in an aluminum pan and cooked for 1 1/2 hours at 350* and then checked it and cooked for another 1 1/2 hours at the same temperature..tightly sealed. Served that with some rice and some broccoli florets. Trimmed the fat off of it first, of course and then stored the leftovers for which tonight, I took slices of the brisket, covered with KC Materpiece BBQ sauce and heated it up in the oven until heated through. Then cut some nice soft challah rolls, put the meat on it and VOILA...nice BBQ beef sandwiches with some corn on the cob, butter and salt on the side. I took the leftover rice from last night and mixed it into a package of vanilla pudding that had been whisked with 2 cups of very, very, very, (did I say VERY enough??? LOL) COLD milk and then put in little ramekin dishes covered with saran wrap...chilling in the fridge as we speak. Yummy. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow. NOW...if I could only figure out what to do with the last piece of brisket.....ahhhh...I thought I would be finished with it. I guess I will save it with some avocado and some type of tahini spread or something in a whole-wheat wrap for lunch one day. Okay...gotta get creative....right?

Happy early birthday to Fifi and Calgary.....

where's nomad, btw? is that like..."taboo?" LOL
