Whitetigeress - I should have been more specific. I mean underground. Skytrain is not very pleasant for those who live near the route. It needs to be extended and will be according to the propasal. However, I would like to see underground extensions.

To the Forum Police - How can this be a redundant subject when the announcement was just made today? In a nut shell, how do you feel about Premier Gordon Campbell's announcement to spend 14 billion dollars over the next 12 years on transportation changes?

Sponge - I wish when you were quoting me this you would have included these two quotes. They are my personal favorines.

The above was in response to the question : " Subway - what do you call skytrain?"

Annica - It might be more accurate to say that nothing seems real here.

"...not very pleasant for those who live near the route..."

Have you lived next to a major highway with transport trucks going by 24 hours a day?
How about next to the airport?

"I mean underground"

It can be done...but are you willing to pay for it. Your tax will more than double if a subway was to be built. Peace and quiet is very expensive.

I also think it is really unfortunate for the merchants who work on Cambie Street because they have lost a lot of business due to rapid transit line construction.

That really pisses me off too, plus the problems on downtown Granville, when there was a much better option
available, all along. The old train tracks up Arbutus way. The Skytrain could've gone straight down the big median,
just like it does on Lougheed highway. Didn't disrupt traffic nearly as much, while being built. Having it below
ground, subway-style was absolutely neccessary in the downtown area, but is not really neccessary elsewhere.

If they do ever decide to extend Skytrain out here (Abbotsford), that would be my suggestion, is use the median
on the freeway, that way no useful land will be wasted.

I think all dirty, populist, socialist boondoggles are destructive to civilized society.
