| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 5/31/2008 10:15:49 AM | The terms Big Beautiful Woman and Big & Tall are just euphemisms for "really big person." If Plenty of Fish gave us the option to say that we're (and I say we, because I put myself down as Big & Tall) "plus sized" it would be the same thing... or we could even say "fat and sloppy" -uhm... sure? What purpose is served (or not served) by picking a Neutral or even a Negative term?
BBW is just the phrase. Would I care if Plenty of Fish reclassified me as "Plus Sized"? Nope, not at all. On Molten Mates, I'm described as King Sized (and the corresponding lady size is Queen). Does that change anything? Really? You might say that it's "not fair" that people who select Average (for example) for body size are "merely" Average. So, maybe it's not fair that a woman who is "Big" is by default also "Beautiful." I feel your pain... and I shrug. Seriously. Suck it up, buttercup.
Someone said something about a man wandering into a Club with a model on his arm being some sort of Status Symbol. Well, firstly I want a woman to be my partner not a fashion accessory. Secondly, if I was going to pick a Model as arm-candy, I'd probably pick Mia Tyler (Liv's younger sister ( http://www.miatyleronline.com/ )), or maybe Emme ( http://www.emmestyle.com/ ), but hey... we can't ALL date bona fide Super Models. Finally... why would I date someone so that strangers can admire me? Wander into a club with (someone else's ideal of) a hot woman on my arm, to inspire the envy of people I don't know. That's retarded. To be honest, I assume that every person I don't personally know is Stupid... I'm not going to change my choice in what I consider to be attractive (and that's a size 16, not size 2) to earn the admiration of the Lowest Common Denominator.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I used to like tiny chicks, but I kept breaking them.

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 5/31/2008 1:54:22 PM | | Fat or thin, I know I'm beautiful, so I'm perfectly fine with my labeling. Sometimes I see women who I don't consider beautiful labeling themselves as BBWs, but I leave it alone. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If they feel beautiful, good for them. I would rather they feel beautiful than live a life of self hatred. | |

Being overweight is in every class and category of people, not just the lower and uneducated. whoever wrote that line is the uneducated one!!! Geeeesh!!!! Nah... I'm quite educated. But since you're daft and fat, I'll just label you as uneducated.
Poverty and Obesity http://www.sirc.org/articles/poverty_and_obesity.shtml "The data show quite clearly that lower income families and those living in socially deprived neighbourhoods are far more at risk from becoming obese than the middle and upper classes."
Poverty Affects Childhood Obesity http://www.provincialfitnessunit.ca/news/2008/mar/31/poverty-affects-childhood-obesity/
The Paradox of Obesity and Hunger http://www.frac.org/html/hunger_in_the_us/hunger&obesity.htm "Households without money to buy enough food often have to rely on cheaper, high calorie foods to cope with limited money for food and stave off hunger."
Obesity http://secure.cihi.ca/cihiweb/dispPage.jsp?cw_page=media_25feb2004_b4_e "In 1998-1999, children age two to 11 in low-income families were 1.5 times as likely to be obese as children in families not in low income."
Anecdotal Evidence: take a stroll to Walmart. Note the amount of really fat people. Then take a stroll to Saks, Nordstrom's, or any other posh store. See the difference? Of course there are overweight people in all social classes but obesity is far more common amongst the poor in industrialised nations.
Curvy can be beautiful, but obesity is just fat. FAT.

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 5/31/2008 6:56:30 PM | Some guy just emailed me, and told me he wasn't going to talk to me anymore cause he didn't realize "I was over weight like that" cause he only looked at my first picture. WTF! | |

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 5/31/2008 7:29:28 PM | I recently joined POF and must say I have enjoyed reading the forums and learning about the diversity of people around me. I am a big woman who used to be a whole lot bigger than I am now. I'm 5'9" and weigh 260lbs which is down from my highest weight of 360lbs. Even at my highest weight I was considered to be and told often by men that I was beautiful and desirable (and yes even in the daylight and around other people). Health issues were diagnosed and treated and the result is I am down 100 pounds and still loosing. Reality is I will never be thin, and thats ok! I am finally at a point where I feel comfortable enough to get out there in this shallow, toothpick loving dating world again and have been very pleased with the response I have gotten. I dont consider myself obese now because as I said I am tall and big framed but after reading some of these posts I am so disappointed that I am probably one of a few who would think so too...to most I'm still a fat chick..lol Its a sad truth that there are many people out there who do let themselves go physically and do not want to change. I believe its also true to a point that economic standing plays a part in it but for the most part its personal choice. There are some however that fall into my category. Heath problems created my misery but I chose to overcome and now I am very active, exercise daily, take care of myself, am financially stable and try every day to do the best I can for myself. Add that to the fact that I have a great personality, am well liked by everyone I know, have fantastic friends who value me and am even more beautiful and insanely sexy than I ever was!.... Sadly, if I go by what I am reading here the only thing I am gonna be catching is the occasional late night booty call from the guy who really digs me but is too insecure to let his buddies see him with anything other than Barbie. Funny thing is ....that same guy will come back again and again because he cant get enough! Now thats sad! Bottom line....Dont be so quick to judge one by their appearance..could be the best piece you ever had!! Show this big girl some love will ya | |

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/1/2008 11:16:23 PM | I think next time somebody makes a, "I love Asian men but my friends tease me" thread, I'll join in with a little, "Well, of course they make fun of you. Everybody knows Asian men have small penises and are unimaginative in bed. Even Asian women don't want Asian men anymore because white and black men are so much bigger. Small penis hasn't been popular since WW2."
And I would be perfectly justified in my comments. I'm part Asian anyway, so I should know. I could post some articles for reference.

Ok and how is that necessary? And people wonder why bigger people feel the need to defend themselves so much. It's because of braindead, inappropriate, stupid remarks like that. And go ahead and come attack me that sam i am, with "oh well your fat too, so you don't matter anyways". It just shows people how truly small minded and asinine you really are. If you don't like "fat" people, then why don't you go post your mindless drivel on some other thread? how about on that one ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ mentioned above.

You must live in one strange area if all you see is really fat people at Wal-Mart and skinny people at your "posh" stores.
Oh wait. Duh. Those posh stores stop at size 14. But wait, I've shopped at Ann Taylor in the plus-sized department and I see other fatties there, too.
So obesity is far more common. Big deal. Obesity means you're fat. So what? Why do you feel the need to hijack a thread to state obese people are fat? Is this you showing how smart you are?

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/2/2008 10:16:14 AM | Again I have to ask why is there always this argument? I have yet to figure out why people randomly put down others because of their size. The term BBW has been developed because of people like Sam who feel the need to interject and put us down. Yep. There is a certain defensivness that develops. Last time I was out biking (yes, excercising), I had a guy feel the need to lean out and tell me to move my fat ass. I've had people moo at me. These are not unusual incidents. Then people also choose to tie obesity to education levels. That's fine in a scientific study, but when you start thinking someone is stupid or uneducated because they are heavy, you've taken it too far.
Conversly, there is no reason to make fun of thin or fit women either. They aren't any different except in body size. There are equal parts nice and nasty regardless.

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/2/2008 11:21:51 PM | Weight is really one of the last 'acceptable' prejudices......big or thin. I'm big, and tall as well, and I have the self confidence and health to be fine with that. Hell, you should see me in a corset. I have never had anyone ever make a comment about my weight. But I've known others that are teased etc. for being fat and also very often for being thin.
Thin people are picked on all the time, and it's sort of like how society seems to think it's ok to make fun of men but not women. My thinner friends have gotten comments like 'wow you're thin, do you eat?' 'do you have an eating disorder?' or 'why are you so skinny?'. NONE of these women are unhealthy, they just are what they are!
Let's face it, if we all had the same preferences, we'd be a pretty darn boring world.

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/3/2008 9:40:54 PM | Through the years, as the scale has fluctuated, I have one area that never gains weight but it has gained volumes. I am not defined by a number or a label, only by the limits of my own imagination, the power of my mind, the depths of my heart and the passion of my spirit and there ain't no way in hell all that is contained in a size 4 body.
(Sorry to the smaller ladies, but once in a while the fat lady rants instead of singing!)

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/6/2008 4:25:26 AM | (Sorry to the smaller ladies, but once in a while the fat lady rants instead of singing!) Terdle,
Couldn't have said that better myself. The thing is ever person has a size preference and SHOULD NOT be bashed for it, but it's going to happen regardless. I no longer feel the need to defend my body type to anyone, if a person isn't interested in me..than they arent' interested in me. The only thing I hate is when a person knows they aren't interested but can't help but insult you. To me that shows a lack of respect and I wouldn't want to be in that parties company anyway. I view other people's opinions like this: it's all mind over matter...I don't really mind because they dont' really matter. Everyone has value, but saddly, many values are based solely on looks and nothing else. I would be lying if I said looks aren't important to me in someone I'm interested in, but it's what they have going on between their ears is what matters far more.

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/6/2008 9:52:45 AM | jujumonkey - you like who ever you want and if its bbw's then more power to you. As a person who classified herself truthfully needing to lose a few pounds, I admire that you can be happy with someone other than bone thin women who make healthy women look a few pounds over weight.
Something for others to think about - did you ever stop to consider that a person might be overweight not because they can't pull back from the table, or they eat all day, but as in my case, were sick, took medicine that made them gain weight, and they love the weight because it saved their lives. Not everyone who is overweight (5,10, 20, 50 pounds, whatever) are food addicts.
The real post here was he likes women with flesh and curves and asked if others were teased for it..... What the heck is wrong with that? He's not judging you for liking who you like.

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/6/2008 11:49:33 AM | Good point catkin.......I have a medical condition that can cause weight gain and then in turn makes it near impossible to lose. I feel so much better now that I'm being treated for it, and even if I can't lose any weight, hey, at least I'm healthier than I was! If you're living healthy and eating properly (my cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure are all in the ideal range), then be happy with yourself and make the most of what you've got. | |

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/6/2008 7:27:40 PM | TonyAlmeda... chases the guys... thats why.
And who cares what kinda person you like?
I dont like thin guys... or rude ones... like the one mentioned below..
well i dont chase the fat ones, but if you do more power to you or more bounce to the ounce
and, if someone "teased" me for it, they can kiss the fattest part of my ass ;)

| Teased for liking bbw's Posted: 6/8/2008 9:48:09 AM | | I've read these messages, and the only thought that comes to my mind is....why do we allow society..friends (so called) dictate to us what is acceptable for our own personal lives? Do you let them tell you what music to listen to?...What shows to watch?...what books to read???...What food to like??...then, why let them tell you who to love or be attracted to? | |
